Great overall with a few short comings

Beach is lovely! It’s big enough that you don’t feel crowded. There were plenty of daybed/canopy beds on the beach where we had our pick. Side note, the beach at Rui Reggae was pretty gross - filled with seaweed, extremely small and stunk. The food overall was fantastic. The buffet actually had some of the best food I have had at an all inclusive resort. The rooms are better than ok but not perfect. The lighting at the make up counter/sink are VERY poor. But the fact that you can turn on all the lights with one switch at the door and turn the same lights off with a switch at the bed was pretty impressive. It could use a coat of paint with a few minor upgrades. Liquor has been plentiful, however, numerous staff members acted as if smiling would break their faces. We ended up avoiding certain staff members just so they didn’t sully our happy time. It was sad because one of the staff really changed our experience at a very common bar area. We were enjoying this area with wonderful espressos and top notch drinks but she was rude on more than one occasion when delivering our drinks. The staff really can make our break your experience. One of the best/worst parts depending on how you look at it. The airport is very close. We loved the 5 minute ride to the resort (our last trip to Jamaica came with over an hour and a half ride from the airport). However, the planes do fly right over the resort. My husband loved being able to see all the different big planes flying over. Some people would not like the noise but, the positive side the last flight out is not late.

Not bad

Buffet food could have been much better. Same food each night. Fried food, not many options. Staff were amazing. So friendly and helpful all the time

Amazing resort

What a great 10 days I spent at the Riu Palace! It was more low key than the other 2 resorts surrounding it, but they were right next door when I needed jerk chicken, beach volleyball, water sports, or better entertainment. It seems the family friendly one was mostly families and college-aged kids, the Reggae was mostly young professionals and 30 somethings, and my Palace was most expensive so had more well-off and older ppl with several 30-40 somethings too. The food was the best I’ve had at ANY resort ever. The staff was amazing. I cried when I had to leave. The room was comfy and clean, and I even had towel swans most days to greet me. Def recommend this resort!

Relaxing isn’t allowed

If the staff catch you enjoying a quiet moment together with whoever you decided to travel with, they will immediately and loudly interrupt, very consistently. It’s as if their pay is dependent on them having a positive interaction with guests, forced or not. I believe that if management sees a guest enjoying a quiet moment it may result in discipline actions for any staff member who could possibly notice. The dining areas are prohibitively small besides the buffet. There’s very few tables available at the tiny specialty restaurants and they are so slow moving that they can’t possibly have more than 2 guests per table, per night. That’s because the dining hours for dinner start at 6:30 and end at 9:00. The buffet is open 30 mins longer. The dining hours are very restrictive and the options besides the buffet are almost nonexistent given the supply vs demand. Bottom line, I’ve had better. I’ve been to Jamaica before and there are resorts that teach social etiquette to their staff, this isn’t one of them.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

It's surrounded by fringy palms and overlooks the luscious, soul-stirring aquamarine Mahoe Bay.

The Renova spa next door (@Riu Montego Bay) where you can kick your stress to the sandy curb.

The beach is protected by a reef so the water is calm & delicious for snorkeling and swimming.

The ocean breezes and crazy beautiful sunsets - it's more than Bucket List worthy.

World-class golf is near - soaking in the sun while you play a round is the best. Ever.

What We'd Change

For lunch, you can dine at either Montego Bay or Seaside, but if you're wanting more choices, you'll get to enjoy the restaurants and activities at the sister resort, Riu Montego Bay, which is next door.

Why You Should Go

The airport is just 1.7 miles away. Your rockin', adults-only vacay will begin lickety-split.

You can head over to the sister resort, Riu Montego Bay, for more places to get your grub on.

Saddle up and get ready - horseback riding is near. You have to do this.

Attention water babies: check out the catamarans, kayaking & windsurfing.

You can play a set (or two) of tennis or get in some beach volleyball. Game on.

Modern and elegant. Hip and stunning. It's an adults-only, all-inclusive beach palace with everything you'd ever want - and more. Delectable cuisine. Chic bars. Soft, toe-loving sand. Water sports out the wazoo. Stress-smashing spa. We'd go on, but it would take all day, plus we don't have enough room on this Internets page. Beach Royalty, we respectfully suggest that it's time to start packing. The party is not going to start without you.
