a beautifull site

the resort is beautifull, room are very modern, very clean. Housekeeping are very professional, polite. it is not the case with people who work on the restaurant and on the pool. They are vey rude. On the pool they start to clean at 5h50 and ask us to leave while it is should be at 6h00. We had an issue with the elevator and went to the desk to tell. They were aware but didn t do anything and no indicate on the elevator door.

Awesome holiday stay at Riu Palace Bavaro

This was the first time I've booked a trip through CheapCaribbean.com and it was great! I was able to book the resort, airfare, and transfers through their site. I read the reviews for Riu Palace Bavaro and honestly don't understand where the negative reviews came from! We were a group of five with my wife and I in our fifties, 23-year old daughter and her fiance, and our youngest daughter 16 years old. We stayed there during the Christmas week. The resort is absolutely beautiful. The beach was expansive and was in a grove of palm trees so you could always fine shade if you wanted it The ocean water was warm and the sand was like powder. There was a little seaweed in water but they cleaned the beach early each morning. There is always a stiff wind and the waves are good size but not dangerous at all. There are vendors on the beach that are not associated with the resort and the sheer number of them is slightly annoying but they don't pester you if you wave them off. There are four resorts connected together and you can use the pools and bars at all but one of them. We hung out mainly at the pool at our booked resort (Rui Palace Bavaro) and loved it there. The beach is adjacent to that pool as well as a restaurant for lunch and a great pool bar. The bartenders at the pool bar are awesome; so much fun. The food at the main buffet (Monte Cristo) was very good. We never got tired of the selection and the quality and temp of the food was spot-on. We tried most of the specialty restaurants (steakhouse, fusion, Asian, and Italian) and with the exception of the Italian restaurant, the food was fantastic. Our room was clean and spacious with a nice, large balcony and quiet, very effective air conditioning. You could hear people above and out in the hallways but it wasn't too bad. They kept the fridge stocked with beer and soda and there is a dispenser in the room with rum, vodka, scotch, and gin. There is a street that traverses the resort with little stores that are run by the local people. We loved shopping and negotiating with them. They were never pushy or obnoxious but were definitely good salespeople. Always smiling and joking with people. The one thing that stood out all during our stay was the people that worked at the resort. These were the most friendly, fun-loving, caring people we have experienced in any of our other trips to the DR or Mexico. I wish I could put all their names in this review, but there are too many. Just walking around the resort, everyone greeted you with a smile.A little tip money goes a long way because these awesome people work their butts off to make the stay memorable. I didn't see enough tipping but actually more than I've seen in the Mexican resorts we've stayed in.We got to know their stories - where they lived, stuff about their family members, photos of their kids, tattoos of their baby's names, etc. They were all so warm and sharing and they actually understood what it takes to make a vacation truly special. The shows at night were fun. We didn't go to the water park or the dance party pool so I can't speak to that. There were a couple of nights where the drunks were loud and roaming the property but that's going to happen at any resort! Our family was concerned about us going to the DR because of all the bad press from last year but there was never a time where we did not feel safe during this trip. We had a fantastic vacation and other than Delta Airlines (we missed one day of our trip because of them), everything was perfect! We can't wait to go back next year!!

Excellent vacation

We had an amazing time at the Riu Palace Bavaro. The staff was amazing and the beach was awesome. The only complaints we had were: the bed wasn’t comfortable, the food at the restaurants was not great, we stuck to the buffet and our room’s balcony view was obscured by a rooftop structure so be sure to be specific of what you want. Monkeyland and the Marinarium snorkeling cruise will not disappoint as far as excursions go!

Overall a great vacation . There are a couple of suggestions, with the floor surfaces in the room shower area it would be nice to have a couple grab bars closer to the front of the shower ( very slippery when you add shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and water ) I would be interested in how many falls there is per year. The other concern would be the experienced and unexperienced bartenders on board, not real good consistency from bartender to bartender. Like I said we had a great time and will probably see our faces again.
