last time doing riu

firstly i try to make the best of any situation.. i requested a high floor when i booked then i called 3 days before to confirm that my request for a high floor was noted ( i called 800# and they said yes sir) i get there and i get an ocean view room on 6th floor ( i said excuse me but i requested a high floor ( 17 floors at this hotel) they said we cant change the room even if i wanted to pay extra for a villa.. we can move you tomorrow if need be.. so we go to the room it had one easy access outlet to charge a cell phone or make coffee and that was in the bathroom.. the room looked dated but ok until i touched the mattress and felt the springs and said ok one night and im sure things will improve in next room.. look in the washroom and the bathroom toilet seat was installed was practically hanging off.. so we are waiting 20 minutes for our bags to come up and i call nobody answers reception so i go down and ask where are the bags.. they go they are not up in your room.. i said no.. they go did you tell the bell service what room your going to....i told the front desk isn't that your job... the bell hop was a nice gentleman said we have some things backwards here... ok we can probably upgrade to a villa or honeymoon sweet tomorrow and everything will be great... kept telling myself so the next day i had to spend 2-3 hours getting another room which was only 2 flights higher but it had more outlets normal toilet seat and mattress without springs coming out of the bed.. no villa.. no option to pay & upgrade to a ocean suite nothing from mgmt... ok the restaurants dont take reservations which makes on sense but you'll learn quickly that if you thought putting out towels on a chair was a challenge wait until you try to eat at the steakhouse... so the cherry for me was i had a later flight then usually 5pm ( checkout was at 11am) i asked kindly we had some bumps during our stay can we delay checkout till noon they go sorry you can but with a fee of 20 per hour i told them i will come down in person and work it out) when i go to front desk i said i changed rooms waiting for bags i lost more than 3 hours and the inconvenience for switching rooms and you wont even let me checkout 1 hour later no sir we need the room.. now they wont even offer me to pay addition fee for the later checkout.. so thats why you get a 2 star review... if it wasn't for the nice staff and gorgeous beach i would leave it a 1 star review.. folks if you want all inclusive dont test drive this place go to iberostar in bavarro dominican rep. then you'll know what an all inclusive 4 star resort is all about.. a cab driver told me your at the wrong resort buddy at your price point you should of chosen the marriott he goes why didnt you pick hyatt i said i read the reviews about renovations he goes they were completed...

Great for the value. But you get what you pay for.

The room was dingy the bathroom was not clean and the toilet seat was old...the toilet over flowed too. Room keys kept getting de activated. Buffets were large but food was average and usually cold. Not enough help on the beach to carry chairs for you. Outdoor door bar closes at 6 so really nothing to do at night. The waiters, waitresses and bartenders were very friendly. Rest of staff didnt care.

Horrible worst vacation ever

I NEVER I MEAN NEVER HAVE GIVEN A BAD REVIEW EVER ABOUT ANYPLACE WE HACE BEEN THIS WAS THE WORDT PLACE I HAVE EVER STAYED! I am so disappointed in this resort the pictures on their website must be about 15 years old the rooms are so outdated they smell there is mold everywhere not just in the rooms in the hallways on the ceilings the constantly cleaning everything with Leach trying to get rid of the black spots it was disgusting the room service horrible for choices only cold stuff super tiny our first day had to remove change of them twice then are safe broke then our phone broke our friends phone broke there safe broke their refrigerator broke everything broke on almost all nine of our rooms I have never had such a horrible experience you call down they when your phone works they tell you that you should just come downstairs you cannot order breakfast room service there is no breakfast menu you can only order it says the night before but they don’t give you a card to fill out to order your food and 84 but then who knows what time you’re going to get up and want to actually have breakfast breakfast buffet closes at 11 which was fine it wasn’t terrible there that was actually the best meal you have there. You cannot get food outside during the day by the pool all the drinks I don’t care what they say were so water down it was even funny service by the pool was not that good quality of liquor by the pool horrible we ended up leaving the resort to go out every night for dinner and then go to bars to drink while we spent over $5000 on this resort the service was not good people sitting on the bar couldn’t even get the bartenders attention there were three or four just standing around doing nothing they made you feel like you’re bothering them ask them to make you a drink there were nine of us on this trip and we have traveled to many different islands a few times a year for the past 78 years and this is the absolute worst experience I’ve ever had I would never ever recommend this resort to anybody know what I ever come back to this place had I not prepaid I would’ve checked out the first day and going to the holiday and down the street I am so extremely disappointed from start to finish with Natalie the service where they treated you food my house was sick the entire week in the bathroom everything he ate I could barely chew anything I had to spit out my steak I couldn’t chew anything and I’m only 47 years old everything was loaded with so much salt my entire body swelled up I have sadly nothing good to say about this resort I need to just be completely gutted and redone this building I was told was over 40 years old and it looks it and it smells the 24 hour café were supposed to go to get something to eat was the smallest most garbage sandwiches and everything in my life they look so bad I was actually afraid to eat them bottles of water you could not get anywhere on the resort you could only get cups of water I can’t find one good thing to say

What's to Love

All-inclusive everything: the cocktails, the grub, the utter awesomeness of it all.

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

It's right in the heart of Palm Beach where you can revel in with white sand, teal waves and Caribbean breezes.

Leave the kiddos at home. It's only beach-loving adults at this resort. Is that applause we hear?

Don't miss ordering the Aruba Ahriba drink. It's a specialty. Order up.

Riu prides itself on service, and here is no exception. You'll want for nothing. Prepare to be spoiled.

Activities all day long. Zumba, dancing, pool volleyball - you can join in or cheer on from the swim-up bar.

Eat, swim, drink and check out all the amenities at the family-friendly Riu next door. You have access to use them.

What We'd Change

Sometimes it can be windy on the beach, but find a quiet corner and enjoy the warm, Caribbean sun.

Why You Should Go

Aruba is one of the easiest islands to travel - US currency is accepted, the island is not too big & the people are genuine.

Aruba is filled with exciting excursions - snorkeling, 4-wheeling, parasailing. Adventure seekers look out.

If you're there for Carnival, you'll get to see lively, colorful, and entertaining dancing at the parade.

The pool concierge makes getting a drink delivered to your lounger a beachy breeze.

Get your dance party ready to hit Pacha, or test your luck the casino for a little extra cash.

Rent a bike and tour the island on your own, or hop on the public bus that travels the strip and costs less than $3.
