Just re opened

They had just reopened. A “new and improved” it was fine. Nothing major wrong. Clean, and staff extremely friendly. 1. Room - clean. Bed comfortable. Bathroom clean. Shower was large. But the water would go from cool to cold to freezing to hot all within seconds. Mini bar fully stocked and restocked every 3 days. Pools- BORING. The music is not loud or party music. Bar was food. Drinks good. The jerk chicken and meat patties AMAZING!! But it was in no way a party scene. At any of the pools. Beach- beach nice. Great chairs. But the beach needs to be dragged. The rocks make it very uncomfortable to walk into. Restaurants- food was good. Steakhouse was a disaster. And not all restaurants are open every night. But the food we did eat was very good. Staff- super friendly. Very helpful. Everything is kind of over at midnight....if you want a party scene this is not it. And the cans will try to charge you a fortune to leave. Overall it was fun and relaxing. We were looking for more Of a party scene. Not the place for that. If you are looking for a place to chill eat and have some drinks. This is the place. Hope this helps! Enjoy!

love the new look at Riu Ochi

Spent 4 days at Riu Ochi and had a wonderful time. The beach was my favorite place - I would go down and swim most of the morning. Water was awesome. Food was good esp the Jamaican food. Servers in main restaurant were great. The room was very nice except for one thing. Somehow the mattress felt kinda hard. I stayed at this Riu at least a couple times before the refurbish and I don't remember having an issue with the bed. I would still go back to this Riu but I might request a blanket or two to put on top of bed.

WoWed me

The trip was everything. On point i was skeptical at first cooking with cheap Caribbean because its online. It was amazing everything that I was told. It was perfect. It was a gift to my boyfriend his first time going to Caribbean he was in love as well. Only one issue I had the hotel was closing down the day of departure for heavy renovations. That being said it was depressing to hear people we met were going to lose their jobs, they kept such great spirit. The non motorized sports and motorized sports were taken away. So that option was bo good the entire stay. And lastly the last day as we were waiting to leave the contractors start taking things closing the bars down. It was a horrible feeling like we were getting thrown out. It was heartbreaking as it was. Overall that place was so amazing. I just wish that was told to me when U booked. I had my heart set on some water sports and I would if loved to have been prepared about the hotel closing. 5 stars: palm trees

Worst service and infested with roaches and mold

First off on arrival and check in you literally have to ask for directions and someone to help with bags to your rooms. You have to walk miles before you get to the nearest elevator which seems like a death trap itself. The rooms are terrible to say the least. The bath tubs are in poor condition. The idea of taking a shower seems like a bad one and would have the reverse effect. Comfort in the room is non existent so if you are looking to relax and watch something this is definitely not the place for you. It’s like staying in a motel from the 1970’s. I was really disappointed in the entire service. The first room I was assigned even had cockroaches in it and when I raised the issue to the front desk all they would say is they would send someone to clean which never happened until I followed up several times. There is mold everywhere you look and the whole time we stayed there was construction day and night. I would not recommend this place especially if you seek value for your money. It seems as though they are running a scam operation and the victims are the guests.

The stress-ousting massages and treatments at the Renova Spa. Swoon.

The Jerk Chicken Hut on the beach. You'll be jammin' here ofter. Probably daily.

The epic snorkeling that's right on the beach. Brightly colored fish will make your underwater pics dazzle.

Dunn's River Falls and swimming with the dolphins - close by and always touristy fun.

What We'd Change

The drive to the resort will take about an hour, but once you step foot onto the resort grounds, you'll be in love.

Why You Should Go

You can get a free introductory to scuba lesson in the pool. Dive in!

There are water sports out the wazoo - windsurfing, kayaking and snorkeling.

On land, you can play volleyball or take an aerobics class.

The entertainment team blows it out, starting with the nightly reggae, steel drums & chill beats.

The botanical gardens of Canbrook aren't your average "flower forest." It's uber lush.
