So-So getaway

Beach and pool areas very good. Rooms need renovation. Eating places not the greatest. 2 hour bus ride to and from the airport was not fun.

Amazing vacation!

The RIU Ocho Rios was a wonderful resort to celebrate my 60th birthday. The resort is large but the staff make you feel like it's your home for the week. The bartenders were warm and friendly. Roxann and Desroy were our favorites.Their bright smiles and playful personalities were a pleasure every day. Neco, our breakfast server, greeted us each morning with a happy face. The food was an endless assortment of variety. There was something for everyone! And of course, the best part was the clear blue water up against a white beach. It was simply heaven to relax in this peaceful spot. We will be back!

Good Trip- a little noisey

We just got back from the Riu Ochos Ríos. We had a great trip and awesome weather. The place is shutting down for renovations in April so I was a little worried but once we arrived and saw the place in person I was reileved. 1st some of the reviews are rediculous with peoples complaints. Come on people your staying at a moderate resort paying a moderate price so expect a moderate facility. The room and grounds we very very clean, the beach was absolutely beautiful, and the restaurants were very good. Not exceptional but good. This place served it’s perpose for my wife and I to take a long weekend gettaway to thawl out and recharge. We stayed 4 nights and 5 days, That was enough because because I think I would of gotten tired of the same food. The service was great- all you have to do is treat the staff with a little respect and tip a few dollars for them to take care of you. I can’t wait to see the place when it’s remodeled- it really isn’t in bad shape now so it will be excellent when it’s finished. We will def. go back. Cheap Caribbean is the way to go when booking- everything is easy and at a great price!

Nice Hotel

It took 2 hours by bus to get to the hotel from the airport. There were 4-6 stops each way to pick up/drop off passengers from other hotels. The plus to this location is that you are near Dunn's River Falls (about 10 minutes). The hotel upgraded our group to Deluxe and the rooms were very nice and it gave us more dining options. Make sure guys have long pants for the speciality restaurants or you can't use them. The hotel is about to be renovated, which it needs in some areas. The hotel is right on the beach and it was great for walking and enjoying the surf, sun and moon. Beautiful pools! However, the pools closed at 6pm and the published time was 7pm. The pools should be open much later. If I had known this before booking, I would have chosen another hotel. Also, the only jacuzzi they have is in the spa, which you have to get a reservation to use (maximum 4 people for 30 minutes) and it is only open until 4:30 pm. Most of the staff were personable and helpful. We did have a couple with attitudes. The bar drinks were very good, but the food was just okay. The wait staff worked to accommodate our group for sitting together and were fun to be around. Lots of entertainment at night. Too many people saving chairs and never showing up for them, so they are not available to other guests. They have a policy against it, but didn't see it enforced

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

There's Red Stripe Beer in the fridge. Every. Day.

The stress-ousting massages and treatments at the Renova Spa. Swoon.

The Jerk Chicken Hut on the beach. You'll be jammin' here ofter. Probably daily.

The phrase you hear everywhere, "No problem, Mon." Go ahead and start practicing.

The epic snorkeling that's right on the beach. Brightly colored fish will make your underwater pics dazzle.

Dunn's River Falls and swimming with the dolphins - close by and always touristy fun.

What We'd Change

The drive to the resort will take about an hour, but once you step foot onto the resort grounds, you'll be in love.

Why You Should Go

It's so worth it to upgrade to the Deluxe Wing - concierge service 24/7.

You can get a free introductory to scuba lesson in the pool. Dive in!

There are water sports out the wazoo - windsurfing, kayaking and snorkeling.

On land, you can play tennis, volleyball and take an aerobics class.

The entertainment team blows it out, starting with the nightly reggae, steel drums & chill beats.

The botanical gardens of Canbrook aren't your average "flower forest." It's uber lush.
