Think Twice and decided to go; read reviews

We traveled with CheapCaribbean several times and they were all good but just to start: As soon as we approach the front desk to check in; we got marked as CheapCaribbean customers :) - they had this Cheap Caribbean , cheapo customer look; or they made us feel that way. We are family of 4; traveling with 3yrs old and 12yr old kids... We were given a room with one big bed ( they put 2 double beds together) which I have never seen in my life - 4 peple sleeping on the same bed ??? Went to front desk to tell how uncomfortable the room is and tried to asked if they can do anything. Unfortunately; front desk personal are really far from being friendly. Asked to speak with a manager; they said there is no manager on duty at 3:00pm on Thursday. Asked for General Manager of the hotel. Again; I was told there is no GM at the hotel. After insisting; they said I can meet with a manager at 4:00pm ? After waiting 1 hour in the lobby; I had the great opportunity of meeting with Front Desk Manager who was a pretty helpful guy; and changed the room in 2 hrs. gave us a one ing bed, one single bed room. so at least; we could sleep. Food: travelled around all islands around; worst food and buffet. At the buffets; they have such a limited variety of main course like fish, beed or chicken - we ended up eating pasta, french fries or some salads. Breakfast is so so ? JERK CHICKEN at the beach is the BEST to eat in this hotel. BARS: you really have to wait get your drink; and tipping $1, $5, $10 or more really does not make your bartender happy... And those plastic drinking cups are extremely extremely dirty - happened to see how they wash them at the beach bar... only 3 bucket of water washes 100s of those dirty cups - cups changed colors from clear to brownish. COFFEE: I am guessing they do not drink coffee in Jamaica. Although they have coffee machine in the rooms; I hate to make my own coffee at all inclusive hotel... And closest place you can find coffee is about 0,5miles from the rooms at the main buffet. HOSPITALITY: We were a group of 12 vacationers and none of us felt Welcomed as a tourist . And again we have been over 10+ all inclusive resorts BEACH: beach is pretty but again; as all the complaints; you don't get any break from the cigarette, cigar?? sales people while trying to enjoy. I understand they are trying to make a living but it comes to bothering level as they stand in front of you although you tell them you are not interested multiple times. - Of course; Boat Tour Sales people do not leave you alone until you purchase the $59 per person 4hr boat tour Pretty nice ocean but the sand in the ocean feels very weird as you step; it kind of takes your feet in. FLIES, BEES OR MOSQUITOS : I don't really know what they are called but little FLY kind of insects bites you pretty badly. Although we used sprays and protection; we got bitten all over - came back with lots of red dots on our skin. LOCATION: Hotel is 80km ( Around 50miles) away from the airpot. As they do not have highway; it is taking 1.5 - 2hrs so it is really tiring. What was good ? Hotel was clean and well maintained; room were clean. Do I recommend ? Unfortunately; as you can see above; I will probably not go there again and although I had a pretty good experience with RIU HOTELS; I think I will not go to any RIU s either ( bcs I have never witnessed that a front desk employee tells a customer that there is no manager on duty in the middle of the day)

Had a good time but needs renovations

I had a decent time at the RIU Negril. The grounds are beautiful but the rooms definitely need upgrading. I came w/ a group of people and when we checked in, we were greeted w/ an attitude from front desk staff and was not told about the safes. I did over hear them telling a caucasian couple about all the amenites the resort had to offer. The resort needs elevators and a golf cart to escort guests to the rooms. My friends bed was dirty but we didnt even bother asking housekeeping because the lady had the worst attitude when asking for towels but when i offered a tip her attitude changed immediately. The food was mediocre. I will say that the bartender Dalton in the sports bar provided us with excellent service. We went and hung out in the sports bar for most of our trip because he was such a cool guy. Also Natasha at the Plaza bar was nice too.

Relaxing Vacation

The stay was pleasant, the hotel service was good. However, we suggest to make a better variety of fruits in the restaurants. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Activities ran all day long, and there was full use of paddle boards, canoes, etc, as well as music and fun and games around the pool. For a fun filled family holiday you cannot go wrong. Relaxation, good food, warm water filled with fish and beautiful sunsets

Property good but restaurants...... not so good

The Riu Negril property is beautiful. Spotless clean. The pools all lovely. Unfortunately the only way to get a drink at the pool is to get wet. There is not a waiter to deliver drinks to you but they are very quick to pick up the empty glasses and trash to keep the pool area spotless. The entertainment at night and during the day is a lot of fun. Really enjoyed the water aerobics and watching the water polo. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The Asian restaurant was mediocre at best. The Kulinarium was delicious but only seats 48 people and they do two seatings in one evening. So a total of 96 diners. With this size of the Riu Negril that is ridiculous. We enjoyed the Italian's restaurant but it too was very small and only accommodated two seatings per evening as well. They do rolling closures on the restaurants and they are not all open every night. To add insult to injury the steakhouse, on a night they were scheduled to be open, was hosting a wedding and only allowed 30 resort guests. Frankly, I would not want to be 1 of the 30 crashing someone's wedding. I went to the front desk to speak to the property manager and that person never bothered to return my call or leave a message in my Room. I consider that to be unacceptable. Be sure to take your own hair conditioner and hand cream because the shampoo is in a dispenser in the shower and that's all you get. Our Room was beautiful and comfortable and the staff efficient. I was disappointed with the beach. The water was murky there was a lot of seaweed and alot of plant life in the water so it was easy to stumble and I didn't see any fish at all. I was expecting the beautiful blue Caribbean's water . My husband and I had a lovely vacation In spite of the deficiencies at the property. I have stayed Riu properties in the past and I would definitely stay at a Riu proprerty again but probably not Riu Negril.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The singing bartender. See if you can find him. He'll mix you up a high-octane cocktail.

Great bang for your buck for all the activities, entertainment and food and drink you'll get.

The service at Riu is the best. They keep everything clean and orderly. You will be spoiled.

Nightly entertainment keeps the party going at night. And into the wee hours, if you must.

The sunsets off the shores of Negril are some of the best. Get your cameras charged and ready for snaps.

The infamous Rick's Cafe is not too far - the cliff divers are awe-mazing.

What We'd Change

The omelet bar is favorite in the morning. Get in line early to avoid a long wait.

Why You Should Go

Getting to Negril will take you about an hour & a half, but it's so worth it. Beachy drinks are waiting.

Grab some locally made souvenirs in town. Your friends/fam will kiss your ring upon receipt.

The restaurants at night will fill up, so make sure to make your reservations a couple of days in advance.

Beach shoes are always a good idea, especially when you want to beachcomb your way up the shores.

Pay a little extra to get upgraded Wi-Fi - it will work even on the beach. You'll def want it there.

The One Love Bus Tour will pick you up at the resort and show off all the local night spots in Negril.
