  Plenty to like but improvements needed

  First time RIU customer. We had a very nice holiday…but mostly because we are beach people and brought our own beach umbrella. Yes…there are palm trees along the beach, but with renovations just completed in December, the trees are essentially tall sticks with minimal palm leaves that provide NO shade. Rental umbrellas were available for about 25.00 American for the day. The biggest issue to be dealt with….rampant smokers who leave their butts in the sand and completely ignore the local no smoking laws. And the Resort DOES NOTHING when guests openly smoke on the resort property. Despite being told upon arrival that there is a 600.00 USA fine for smoking / vaping on site or on the public beach… smoking, vaping, marijuana use…is happening ! The hotel advertises itself as non smoking…I only wish. To the tourists who left their cigarette butts, empty drink glasses in the sand…Shame on you…showing such disrespect …simply awful. The food was very good with lots of options in the buffet. The reservation system for the specialty restaurants does not work . Again…they say no reservations but in fact that is what happens. The people line up at the door early, awaiting the opening to either get a table, or be put on a list and given a notification pager . So…if you hope to get in you need to line up and our experience was…we did not get in. While we were there ( Jan 18-30) there were predominantly multigenerational families , large travelling groups that required many seats and tended to hang out long after their meals were completed. We did succeed at experiencing the Italian, Mexican, and Asian restaurants. Italian was excellent! With the addition of 120 new rooms the pools, restaurants, lobby bar filled up. Waits became longer for services. Have to think when the hotel is full all eating venues will be undersized. And …you better like kids. They are everywhere 🤪😊. All ages, all temperaments, some super cute, some super annoying. The pools are packed with no adult or quiet zone. Drinks are hit and miss…generally, hard liquor drinks are fine, frozen drinks..terrible…tried a few…chemical, fake juice…unpalatable….and plenty of others agree…saw partially drank drinks left unfinished. I would certainly go back, had some wonderful days, conversations, meals, beverages…and sound sleep. Staff were friendly and helpful when you got their attention…still new, working out duties..but, not enough hands for all the guest requests.

  2026 PVR VACATION

  Beautiful and friendly staff. Especially Marco and Miguel at the sports bar. Friendly conversations. And let us not forget Diana at the night entertainment. We enjoyed her so much. Thank you for having an awesome crew. We will absolutely be back. Thank you

  Excellent Stay

  This was our first stay at a RIU property. The staff was superb! Very friendly and some even remembered our names which made us feel very much at home. They rooms were clean and fully stocked. Only downside was no microwave. The food was 7.5-8 out of 10 and was our only low point of the vacation. The drinks were TOP TIER!

  We enjoyed our stay at Riu Jalisco. The renovations are nice but I sure do miss the long pond and fountains. It is very clean! We were unhappy that we could not make supper reservations at restaurants making for long 1-2 hour waits to get into them!

  Great getaway

  My overall experience was very good. What is important to me is a good beach, plenty of chairs and cleanliness. Riu Jalisco has that. They are a bit short staffed, so people should know there are lines for coffee, and the bars. The staff that is there are friendly and accommodating. You do not have to make reservations for any of the restaurants which is nice, but you will not get into the Italian restaurant - the line is very long, and the system they use to seat people is unorganized. Other than that, the food is fine. If your expectation is to be waited on hand and foot - that will not happen. If you value a nice, clean, friendly beach location with plenty of chairs, and nice pools and if you love great sunsets - this is your place. I would come again.
