Fantastic Vacatioln

Loved this resort. Staff were very accommodating and looked after your every need. Room was very clean and was done daily. The entire resort was immaculate. The restaurants were excellent and you did not have to make a reservation. Drinks were fine but ask for specific brands in your cocktail. The only disappointment was the beach. Ads told of a placid beach where you could snorkel with no waves to bother you. So not true. There were 3ft. waves that crashed down on you and a horrific undertow. I got in ok but got smashed down on my way out. Not fun. Did use the pool which was fine. Other than the beach, this was an excellent holiday. Would go there again hoping the ocean was calmer.

Great for the price!

I had a fantastic time in Puerto Vallarta. I probably would not choose this resort again, however, it did not fully disappoint. Especially for the price we paid. I wish there was better night life experiences. Everything closed down early and the Club smelled terrible. The 24/hr sports bar is boring and the food is really gross. No room service for late night food which wasn't a big deal, just very surprising. There's a great mini bar in each room that is included and restocked upon request. I loved the pools and entertainment staff, they gave us great suggestions for getting downtown to have a great nightlife experience. It was safe, just be sure to get the right info! The pool is great, I do wish parents didn't bring their kids to the adult pool because it can get a little rowdy. The swim up bar is so fun and the beach is a quick walk. Beautiful sunrise/sunsets!!! Check out experience for me was not great, you MUST check out (which I am not accustomed to) return all room keys and towel cards to take your shuttle to the airport. If you do not you can't leave, lol. Food options were great!

Not Excited

The best feature of Riu Jalisco was the entertainment. There was a level of excellence that was uncommon for similar resorts; talented, authentic, engaging and fun. The worst feature was the sailing. Only noon to 3 p.m. Rude attendants. Delayed and postponed the opportunity to sail and limited it to 30 minutes. The hotel management did absolutely nothing to address it. Nothing spoils a vacation like rude people. The food was okay but unimpressive. Restaurants ran out of featured dishes early. Drinks seemed diluted. The room was nice enough and the homekeeping staff did a good job. I've gone to a Riu hotel before and enjoyed it. I won't go back to this one.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The Spanish-style resort with Moorish flourishes, surrounded by palm groves and the Pacific.

The liquor dispensers in the rooms. It's a party. Just add people.

RiuLand - supervised fun for the little ones while you savor that beachtastic drink by the teal waves.

The majestic Sierra Madres that hug Banderas Bay, which frame the soul-stirring sunsets.

Stress-smashing massages in open-air palapas, facials and Henna tattoos you can get at the spa.

The championship golf course that's near and waiting for your A game.

The nearby Marieta Islands with the hidden beach, a natural wonder that'll blow your hair back.

What We'd Change

Since it's located in Nuevo Vallarta, it's a bit of a drive to the shopping and sights in downtown Puerto Vallarta. But most families never want to leave the all-inclusive perks at Riu Jalisco.

Why You Should Go

The airport is 10 miles from the airport. Your vacay is so near you'll be able to taste it.

Frolicking at the dolphinarium in Banderas Bay is a great option for a non-beach day.

The Malecon, a promenade with beautiful sculpture, is near and ready for your oohing/awing.

There's wave after wave of water sports: body boarding, kayaking, catamarans, and more.

The boat trip to Yelapa, an epic, beachy paradise you can access by boat, is a must-do.

For a fee, you can hop on horses and/or bikes to explore the exotic, tropical terrain.

The traditional village of Bucerias is near and filled with craft markets for your sourveniring.
