  Wonderful time spent

  First I thank Katia at RIU Class Customer Service! You gave us an awesome room location!! 4035! You are awesome! We are very fortunate to be able to vacation several times a year, and many of those times are spent in Cancun and the surrounding areas. We do love the RIUs so when I was looking I was thinking we've been to the ones in Cancun several times over, and I saw the Palace and the Dunamar in Costa Mujeres. It's about the same distance from the airport as Playa Del Carmen, only in the opposite direction. I am always looking for the perfect beach to go along with the buffet :) so when I saw this one I read some, let's say less than desirable reviews. We just got back from 4 nights, and I couldn't be happier with the time we spent there! I had seen some reviews about mosquitos, and I will say yes, my son said he got 2 bites, and my wife killed one that was trying to get her. That was it for our experience, and we were out in the morning, all day, and were out again late at night. The food was fresh and plentiful, and readily available, as they are. The place inside and out was clean, and it was quiet, just the way I like it. Prices are much higher now than they have been, but this one was the most reasonable by comparison that I found. The beach was soft sand and not alot of seaweed, it was alittle rough as it was windy most of the time we were there, but we made the best of it. I don't know if it is normally calm water there or not, but it is turquoise blue. There are no reservations necessary for the restaurants, and that is so nice, but can lead to some issues if your heart is set on the steakhouse for instance, because you have to get in line 5:30pm, it opens at 6pm and fills up fast, but the buffet is terrific, and the Asian and Italian are just as good. They also have a very cool waterpark attached to the hotel, one for adults and older kids, and then a really nice one for the younger ones too. There are several pools, all very clean. There is alot of seating around the pools and at the ocean, but when we were there, I was surprised that they were all filled up. The entertainment we felt was lacking a bit. We felt it to be more family friendly, more quiet and not as loud and party like as some other hotels in let's say the hotel zone. There is alot of walking to do here as well, we were on the 4th floor and took the steps mostly. In some of the other RIUs you struggle with having to wait for elevators, especially at peak times, but it was just quicker for us to walk the steps because the elevators were a bit farther away. The property is large, but beautiful and clean. We really really enjoyed it here, it was very relaxing. Lastly I would say that the workers were nice, not quite as friendly as alot of others I've encountered in and around Cancun, but no one was not nice, just not as outwardly friendly, and it did seem to us that maybe they needed some more help. These are just some of our observations. In my opinion, if you like the RIU hotel chain, and want a relaxing vacation, and one that is a little further from the hustle of the hotel zone, this would definately be one I/we would recommend.

  Great place for families.

  This is a great place for families. The hotel does a really good job keeping the kiddos entertained but kids' area needs to be bigger. Too small for the amount of people. The hours also need to be longer. The bed was way too bouncy and soft.

  7.7 Vacation

  Greate vacation During Dec 13-21, 2 kids 9 and 12. Beach-> very nice white sand and blue water and waves the kids loved it. Shoutout to Sanchez for great service at the beach fast and always there. Water slides 10/10 hight requirements 120cm Food-> standard you can always find something to eat at the buffet, they did have avocados which we never had in other 15 resorts we stayed big plus, restaurants stake house and Italian was good but need improvements. Room-> nice and clean beds a little small i think it was full size, water pressure in a shower very low on 4th floor, no lotion. Transfers we had with RIU, but switched to private since wait time was 1hour and it would probably take 1.5h to get there private was 50min. We left 3 hours before our flight and it was more than enough time. Overall good vacation would come again, but would stay next next door just to see the difference in food, but we did go inside and it was more modern the only reason we didn’t go there because of room privacy I know you can request a screen. If it’s $500 more I would just stay at Dinamar.

  Great hotel

  Spent a great week with family. Clean and nice beach, good food with lots of options. Really enjoyed it.

  Acceptable for the budget traveler

  Overall I would rate this acceptable for the budget traveler. The place was very clean and well maintained. The room we were in was ocean front, far from the noise and food. It was spacious and had a well stocked fridge. The bed was hard and uncomfortable for us but we come to expect that. Pools were clean, bartenders (especially Adriano at the Tequila) were superb. Beach footprint was small but beautiful. Food was terrible. Many hot items in the buffet were lukewarm to cold. The buffet service was disappointing as a few times for breakfast we were never approached the entire time we sat there, having to find silverware on our own. The specialty restaurants were unappetizing. The worst was the steakhouse as there we felt rushed and unattended to. The steak was tough, despite asking for medium. The salmon—well I never received it. Instead I got a steak dropped off and no one returned so I could correct this. I finally decided to eat it as I was hungry and my husband was nearly done.
