We just came back on Friday the 12th, it was a great last min vacation. Let's see where to start.... when we got to the hotel check in was easy and our room was ready. I asked for the first floor, that wasn't available so they put us on the 4th that wasn't a big deal until later on in the week. The room was very nice, the bed was a king size ( not 2 mattress pushed together), that wouldn't of bothered us anyways. The bathroom was a nice size as well. There was only a shower no bath tub. The issue we had with the shower was the water would come out from under the door and get the floor wet. There was this really weird see thru glass that you could see if someone was sitting on the toilet. So you couldn't leave the bathroom light on at night or it would light up the bedroom. The balcony was so small. You couldn't stretch your legs out because of the glass and railing. When you sat down the railing would be right in you eye site so you couldn't see anything unless you stood up or hunched over to see. From where we were you couldn't see the beach or anything else besides the trees or people passing thru the grounds. Our mini fridge was filled everyday but our mini bar wasn't filled at all. The house keep did do a great job but she managed to get my charger wet. Thank goodness I brought a extra one. There was not outlet on both sides of the bed so I had to charge my phone on the other side of the room. Late a night they would have shows in the lobby and near the pool, at times it would get so loud that I would get woke up along with people yelling and running down the halls. The grounds were very beautiful. There are about 3 huge pool but we are not pool people. The beach was nice but had alot of sea weed just sitting in piles. There was alot trash on the beach from the guest so there was alot of birds eating food the guest would leave laying on the beach. The taxis were a bit expensive to go a few blocks they wanted 10/13 dollars for one way. Let me not even start on the tours. Way to much money. We rented a car to do our own things. It was the best thing we did. I felt very safe going out on our own and it was cheaper that way. Over all it was a great vacation and thanks to cc for the last minute vacation deal they had. P.S if you take spirit airline they charge you for carry on bags. 45 dollars each bag.

Expected Value - Excellent Staff - One Big Issue

I believe this is a very fair review - management, please read to the bottom! First and foremost, the staff at the hotel was outstanding; always polite, prompt and courteous. The hotel and rooms are a bit dated, but staff does a great job of keeping everything in good shape - from the rooms, to the lobby and the grounds. If you're looking for fun and a good value - this is a great place. Staff running activities did a great job as well. I have two teenage sons and chose this hotel based on the reviews for all the activities. On the flip side, if you're looking for peace and quiet - this likely is not the hotel for you. Other pros: - The main buffet. While the foods a bit bland, there's a wide selection and good service. Cons: - Restaurants other than the main buffet. No reservations and wait times always in excess of an hour - despite never appearing to be more than 50% occupied. Appears to be no incentive to occupy and turn tables. Likely a management strategy to push more to the buffet. - Noise. Bands in the main lobby can be heard everywhere. The only issue we really had was one of my sons waking up with over 20 bites from his legs to his armpit. Likely bed bugs. I think this was a one off issue - like I said, staff really seemed to be doing a great job maintaining the rooms and the property. My real issue was that management really didn't have a plan to deal with it. You would think they'd open a manual and address it quickly. We insisted on changing rooms. They first stated they were full but then moved my sons to a musty smelling room on the bottom floor (from a front ocean view). In the discussions with hotel management regarding the issue, I definitely left with the impression that they were more concerned with their personal 'bottom line (statistics) than the customer or their company. Riu is a large chain with a good brand name. We were offered nothing for the incident. Nothing. If this was my business, I would have followed up to see if the client was ok. I would have immediately offered some type of lotion/cream for the bites, called sister hotels next door and or up the street to see if they could offer better accommodations than the smelly basement room they didn't want to put anyone in. How about offering some incentive to return? I don't know how much of this was the person we dealt with or how senior management has structured the goals and objectives - In any event - this was a failure, and the one thing that is keeping me from recommending to others.

Awesome Honeymoon!!!

Loved the Riu Caribe resort!!! My husband and I went for our honeymoon. We did not have much vacation time so this was perfect for us. I loved the atmosphere! I hate complaining but unfortunately the beds were very uncomfortable. If we partied more we probably wouldn’t have noticed but getting older we like our beauty rest lol But we loved everything else the resort had to offers and all the staff were super nice. For the price yes we would definitely be back!

Not what it used to be.

Returned to Riu Caribe again after 5 years as I had a great experience the first time. However, things have changed. Do's: Great staff, friendly and hard workers especially the waiters. The staff was always willing to take the order and bring our drink to the beach. Rooms were clean. Mexican people work very hard. Don'ts: Beds were hard as rock and way to high I felt like I was going to fall at any moment. They need to upgrade the hotel, it's getting old. The food was always the same and very high in sodium and sugar. It was one or the other, there was no in between. On our last 4 days we didn't want to eat or drink anything anymore. We were all swelled up from the high amount of salt. I was afraid to eat especially with two older parents who suffer from high blood pressure. Salt can be deadly for them. The drinks at the bar were aright nothing to special as the alcohol they used was not top shelf. If you ordered any smoothie or strawberry daiquiri or Pina colada you were in for a sugar overdose. Very limited sea food and when you had octopus or squid it was so chewy that it was almost impossible to eat and enjoy. Sad but I won’t be retuning. Maybe to another Riu but not to Riu Caribe. Also the entertainment was not very good. They had their staff pretend sing and dance American songs. I don’t want that I want real Mexican shows and entertainment.
