Rui Cancun

Simply amazing! I fell in love with this resort. First time in Cancun, and I would surely go back and stay here again. Only thing/issue was the bed felt a little damp, I think from the humidity. Other than that... food was great, drinks were great, staff was amazing! I really enjoyed myself.

Beautiful resort

Optimistic on choosing a resort to Mexico so I heavily relied on feedback. Glad I overlooked some silly negativity on this resort because it was beautiful and Very clean. The staff was phenomenal, friendly and really looked out for your happiness. The selection of alcohol was amazing (except only one beer choice). A major perk was no reservations needed for restaurants and plenty of food choices. Also people of all ages having fun. Plenty of activities and excursions so you can't get bored. Ok my one complaint....unless you want an adjoining room, make sure you don't have the door to the next room. It wasn't sealed so you hear everything. At night the light from the room illuminated our room. Anyway we loved everything and will be going back next year with friends.

Not perfect but close

We stayed at the Riu Cancun from April 9-14, 2018 and while it wasn't perfect, there was enough going right to overlook much of the imperfections. Let's start with check-in. The lines were long and the service desk employees were not smiling, not a one of them. But a smiley server was coming by with cold fruity drinks! We were told to wait for a bellhop to bring our luggage up to our 12th floor room, but we grabbed it and took it up ourselves so that there would be no delay in changing into a swimsuit, grabbing the sunblock and hitting the pool. Our room was an ocean view suite with a king sized bed and it was not luxurious by any means but it did fine. The worst part was the sheets and towels were as rough as cardboard. And when you get a slight sunburn, that doesn't feel very good. At. All. The room had a sliding door with a small deck with gorgeous ocean views. There was a small refrigerator stocked with water, pop and beer and after 2 days we had to ask at the front desk to have our water restocked, which they did within the hour. There was a mini bar which we didn't use, a small table with 2 chairs, 2 nightstands, a dresser and a tv. The elevators are not air conditioned but the rooms are. Moving on to the pools--the pool furthest to the right, as you walk out the back door, is the quietest and least used. The middle pool is the one with the swim-up bar and also has tables and chairs in it. The pool furthest to the left is the one that is loudest and has the activities going during the day. The pools are nice but bring earbuds if loud bothers you. The stunning views from the pools are right out onto the beach and ocean. Speaking of beaches, we walked along the beach every morning about 45 minutes and this resort has the best beach area. White sand, no rocks or shells, clear turquoise blue water, with plenty of room for lounging on a chair, playing in the water, or walking. Other resorts along the way, this was not the case. The bars and restaurants are everywhere. We ate most meals at the buffet. If you can't find plenty of delicious things to eat there then you are a picky eater. On any given night you could choose from a variety of Mexican dishes, chicken, pork, lamb, beef, steak, burgers, hotdogs, several varieties of fish, several varieties of pasta, 2 soup choices, lunchmeats and cheeses, a huge salad bar, a huge fresh fruit selection, nachos, fries, and vegetables. We also tried out the steakhouse which was first come, first serve. We arrived about 15 minutes before it opened for dinner and had no issues being seated. The breakfast buffet was my favorite, and I ate a made to order omelette every morning. You can also eat any time at the Sports Bar, which happens to be open 24/7. Besides being a bar, there are a couple of cooler doors stocked full of a few types of sandwiches, fresh cut fruit, apples and oranges, hotdogs, hamburgers, and nachos. Just walk in and help yourself to whatever sounds good. The tv channels are showing sports (we watched the college hockey championship game one night) and the bartenders make good drinks. All of the bartenders at all of the bars are good natured and friendly. Never a wait to get a drink. The bartenders acknowledge you immediately even while they are mixing other drinks. We brought our Yeti mugs so our drinks stayed cold in the hot sun and as a bonus they hold 2 drinks so no need to go back to the bar as often. Besides friendly bartenders, the wait staff in the restaurants are outstanding. Quick and friendly service everywhere you went. The resort has housekeeping staff everywhere, sweeping and shining and they always smiled and said Hola to us. The only area around the resort that needed to be kept cleaner was the bathrooms near the Sports Bar, where everyone from the pools go to use the restroom. The floors are always wet (which is also a safety hazard) and the sink area is a mess. I actually felt sorry for housekeeping as they tried to keep up with the messy and disrespectful guests, who left dirty dishes and cups and cigarettes everywhere. Yes, you are on vacation but no, you don't need to be a pig, Mr. and Mrs. Tourist! And can I say a word or two about tipping? There is no obligation to tip and we didn't see many people doing it which is a huge shame. When a server fills your wine glass 4 times during dinner and you get a strong Pina Colada within a minute of walking up to the bar, why the heck are you not tipping?? These are hard working, polite, friendly people! Finally, there is an evening entertainment show which changes depending on the day of the week. For example, a Rock show, a tribute to Michael Jackson, a Mayan heritage show, the 3 Tenors, etc. The performers are having a good time which means you as an audience member can't help but smile and tap your feet. A shout-out to Daphne who is a most charming, friendly young lady who performs in the shows. She came and sat down during lunch one day to chat and she could not have been more sweet. So while there were opportunities to improve (Soft towels and sheets, please!), overall this resort does a lot of things ridiculously well and I would highly recommend it.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

No golf carts needed here to get around - you can stumble from the pool to the beach to the restaurants & bars easily.

Three pools with ocean views and breezes means you and your travel mate/partner/husband/wife/dog won't be on top of each other.

The soul-soothing whirlpool off the gym. Yea - you can picture yourself there.

The delicious food & drinks, incredible service, fun-loving entertainment - it's like being wrapped in a cozy beach blanket.

At the cooking stations at the restaurants, they'll cook you up something "on the fly" - now that's what you're talking about!

What We'd Change

The gift shop at the resort is a bit pricey, but right across the street is a large supermarket so you can pick up any groceries you might want or things you forgot for a lot cheaper.

Why You Should Go

It's about 13 miles from the airport & in the smokin' hot Cancun resort area. You've landed in the epicenter of Awesome.

Don't miss Isle Mujeres - stunning beaches, fresh seafood, loads of culture. In town, you can find a museum or two!

You can rent a bicycle and explore that nearby shopping center (or go all the way downtown).

Soak up all that Riu Caribe (sister resort!) has to offer - the diving pool is da bomb.
