Diamond in the Rough

Just returned from our 11th stay at this resort. Some things have changed. For instance, lots of "perks" that had always been included are now considered VIP service which is an additional charge. Robes in the rooms, Orange beach bag, small bottle of rum, cigars etc. Certainly not worth $25 per person per day. They will offer this at check in. We declined. This however does not change my opinion of this little Diamond in the rough. The staff is very friendly, we have visited this place so many times that now the staff recognizes us and takes great care to make sure we have everything that we need. Food is good. Not 5 star, but you won't go hungry. If you are expecting 4-5 star dining don't go to the DR. What they offer is good, sometimes very good. Even when this place is full there never seems to be a very long wait to be seated at any of the restaurants. Ressa is our favorite Hostess. Always a smile on her face always a kiss on the cheek every day. I don't know how they stay so upbeat and happy all of the time. There are far too many other good people to individually name. Rooms could use updating, beds are getting old. We love the Princess and will go back for our 12th time this summer.

Highly overrated to call itself 5 stars

There was no hot water for your shower after the beach every single day. The shower leaked out water because the door would not fully close. The toilet seat didn't stay up and would need to be held to go to the barhroom. There are workers who constantly beg you to look at what they are selling. Every single day I was heckled by the same guy who was allowed to have a gift shop right in the middle of the resort. The guy would constantly lie and say please come take a look I'm only here for 1 more hour; then we would see him several hours later and the following day. The people running these gift shops on the resort are extremely rude and beg you to stop at their shop every time you pass by. The water bottles you must smell before you drink because some are stored in moldy ice or containers (we had several water bottle have a strong foul odor). People do not flush toil paper on this resort and every bathroom has a trash filled w the tissues (I can understand if the septic tank is bad but the trash should never be noticeably full). No butler service to the beach unless you go and find the server. They will not come to you and you will have to retrieve your own drinks the majority of the time. The drinks are served in 5 oz Dixie cups which was upsetting because you could literally drink your entire drink before returning to your spot on the beach. The mini bar in your room is 2 budweiser's 1 Sprite and 2 cokes. That was upsetting because I felt it would be a decent little mini bar, was not expecting something too fancy but come on 2 budweiser's and 3 sodas does not qualify to list that they have a free mini bar in room. There is no good alcohol on this resort. You may think that won't be an issue but all of the alcohol is dirt cheap and will give you bad hangovers. The pina coladas are made from a machine which was disappointing because the other resorts had fresh made ones using a blender. Workers will occassionally ask you for drinks, it's not a 5 star resort at all do not be fooled. People on the beach will come up to you when you are sleeping with no shame and then become upset if you don't buy what they are selling. I did not like how the security just allowed the workers to come up to us while we were trying to enjoy ourselves and clearly not interested in what they are selling. Met about 10 people who have been so sick they must sleep off the stomach pain for multiple days ruining their trip. You can not brush your teeth with the water you must use bottle water ! There is absolutely zero regulation on food and no organic food the servers will touch your food and not realize their error in doing so. The glasses they use are washed through the dirty water which you will notice people using their own coffee mugs and cups because they told me the glasses provided by the resort are not safe to drink out of. Also the wifi is very poor at this resort. Do not purchase the wifi plan it will allow you to browse the internet but it is not strong enough to send messages or post photos. There should not be a mini golf course listed on this resort also. It is destroyed and not in working condition at all. The carpet is ripped up on every hole and it has crumbling side walls. There were positives through all these negatives. We enjoyed the activities provided by the resort every day and the workers who helped run the activities truly seem passionate and enjoy their job. I loved the beach and how it was not too crowded in front of our resort. Every day we were able to find 2 chairs together no matter what time it was. The workers are all very good at speaking English which we did not find true at other resorts. There is a gift shop that sells American items such as cheetos lays pringles and candy but it was all very overpriced ($20 for aloe). There were kayaks we could have used for free but we did not. There were dance nights which were fun and the workers definitely help get everyone up and dancing I enjoyed seeing that haha. I wish this resort would put in the extra money to fix the errors I'm talking about and improve their quality of food and alcohol. Nobody will return to this resort is my belief because the food was so poor and it is disappointing because you have already paid the money so what can you do. The workers are the backbone of this resort and the only reason my review was 3 stars and not a 1 or 2.

Great first experience

It was our 1st visit to Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic. We randomly chose an adults only resort off of the website. The experience far exceeded our expectations. We have traveled domestically a lot in 21 yrs of marriage so I would say the accommodations as far as the rooms, pool and restaurants were very good. What makes this place incredible is the staff. They treat you like royalty the minute you walk in the door and every minute you are there. It is a small resort so you really get to know them on a personal basis and they make the stay very comfortable and you are pampered daily. We really enjoyed how you didn't have to take a shuttle everywhere you went. We will definitely visit the Punta Cana Princess again. Hats off to all the bartenders, waiters, waitresses and definitely the animation crew. You were awesome!!

Hotel Description

Punta Cana Princess: Luxury Hotel, Nick Price Golf, Spa, Casino and More!

Don't you think it's time to steal away for a little "me time?" With 263 luxury suites resting atop lush vegetation on luminescent white beaches, the Punta Cana Princess All Suites Resort & Spa offers adults-only, all inclusive luxury on the dazzling eastern coast of the Dominican Republic. The hotel is also home to the Punta Blanca Golf Course, designed by Nick Price. The Punta Cana Princess is a hotel that knows no limits when it comes to beauty and rests on a pristine white sand beach. Complimentary waiter service ensures that the cocktail of your choice is delivered right to your sun lounger as you laze the days away beneath a shady palapa--when you aren't in the Jacuzzi, that is. The beach boasts a mini spa section with its own Jacuzzi and a sauna right on the sand! When sand's not your game, snag a sun lounger poolside at the on-site freshwater pool or at any of the other three pools in the Princess resort complex.

With five on-site dining options, the hotel offers guests delectable choices when it comes to dinner. Opt for the a la carte seafood fare of Mare Nostrum, Tex-Mex steak at Rio Grande or elegant Swiss delicacies at Le Petite Fondue. Areito Discotheque offers free admission for all guests looking to shake their tail-feathers late into the evening, and a casino offers thrills even later. Live entertainment is also available at a number of on-site venues.

Sporty visitors enjoy sighting up a bull's-eye on the archery range or vying for match point on one of two tennis courts. If active relaxation is more what you had in mind, Metamorphosis Spa offers sensory nirvana with a variety of treatments, including hydromassage.

Retiring to a Platinum Suite can be its own adventure with a private balcony, premium-brand liquors in your room and nightly turndown service. An extra touch of island class greets guests upon arrival, too--a fruit basket and cigars are waiting to welcome you to paradise.
