Joint Family Vacation

We visited Paradisus Punta Cana as a joint family vacation - two families, so we had a total of 9 in our party. The resort was very nice, the room great (very good AC - it was hot so we needed it). The junior suite set up was great - very roomy. The bar and entertainment staff were great, always friendly. If there, find Miguel behind the bar and ask for his rum drink... very good! The food was fine. Mexican restaurant was excellent. As a group we had a very nice time and had fun. We did have some problems with guest services. They weren't as helpful as we would have liked. We had trouble upon check in. The person who checked us in, forgot to put keys in two of our three check in packets. When we got to our room and unloaded all of the luggage the service staff had to let us into our room. It took two hours, two phone calls and a trip to the check in desk to get the room keys. Not sure why the keys weren't delivered to the room immediately. By the time we received the keys we missed the opportunity to make our week long dinner reservations. We had to wait until the next morning and it takes 24 hours to secure a reservation so we now had two nights with no reservations. When making reservations, you get a wish list but end up with wherever and wherever they can accommodate you. We had a party of 9 so we only got 2 dinner reservation out of the 5 nights and not at the time we wanted. The one night we were assigned to the "Beach Barbeque". We didn't even know what that was because it wasn't a selection on the restaurant wish list. Apparently is a party on the beach. Sounded like fun. So we walked to the beach and nothing was set up. We were told by the buffet hostess that the dinner was moved to the main lobby for the night. Would have been nice to have been told this. We walked up to the main lobby to find the "Beach Barbeque" was moved to a ugly conference room and the food served was not very beach barbeque like. The second reservation we received was at the Grill - which is the steakhouse. Very good... It would have been nice to have the reservation guest services person help us a little more to try to accommodate our party. Maybe helping us split our party to get a better chance at reservation. Communication was limited. The Mexican restaurant is the only restaurant that is open for lunch so we were able to eat there for lunch, which was very good. The buffet was decent. It would have been nice if the food selections were labeled. Sometimes it was hard to tell what it was you were eating. All and all we had a nice time, which is what counted.

beautiful grounds. Terrible service.

Beautiful grounds and beach. Good accommodations. Except for a few persons, the service was unbelievably bad. We requested a reservation tro a Japanese restaurant 3 days before arrival on 7/2/2017. Upon arrival, there was no record of it. We tried for 2 days and the lady in charge always gave us the same answer. We were simply "dumped" for unknown reasons to us. The alarm of the clock in our room did not work. We requested a replacement on the second day of our stay and up to the time our vacation ended, we did not receive it. To end it all, we needed to wake up at 2:00 a.m to catch an early flight to Miami. I personally asked the lady at the reception desk the evening before. And, guess what !!! THEY FORGOT TO CALL US. Thank goodness I woke up at 1:55 a.m. Around 2:15 I called the hotel operator and he simply told us that there was no record of my request. Again....Unbelievable...No one seemed to care and hardly apologized. My native language is Spanish therefore, there was no excuse about misunderstanding. We have stayed at other Paradisius resort where everything was almost perfect. As far as we are concerned, Paradisius Punta Cana is not worth what we paid, which was not "peanuts". Please improve the service or.......... Thank You.

Service with an Attitude...

I cannot say enough about the amazingly beautiful/clean beach where we spent all our days, the service at this resort was sub-par. I have traveled the world, never had an experience where the people who work in the service industry were not willing to go the first mile, let alone the extra mile. Main complaint, called resort a week ahead to confirm a specific restaurant for dinner reservation for my mother's birthday. When we got there, no such reservation existed but they promised they would get it sent in to the "dinner reservation people" but the next day, that never existed, either. It was a constant back and forth of phone calls, filling out dinner venue requests,etc...Never got in to the place we chose! Last complaint, we had an expensive sweater go missing from our room. Just to give you an idea, we were transferred 5 times on one phone call to try to get to someone that could help. Tried to "file a report" for almost 24hours but security was always elsewhere, filling out other reports. And, the time came for us to go to airport so we could not wait around any longer. The entire time we were there, felt as thought we were bothering them, putting them out, inconveniencing them...not a great way to feel when you have paid a lot of money for a vacation. Btw....we are not picky, rude or demanding people that need to be waited on hand and foot. Two bright spots: Gabriela in Guest Services, Luis Brito at reception.

Very disappointing

I took my 18 year old daughter and her best friend for a 5 day getaway to celebrate their high school graduation. While the property is absolutely gorgeous, under the surface we experienced many problems. First off, the air conditioner was broken in our rooms and trying to get a response from someone to come deal with it was very frustrating. I had to call the front desk 4 different times, and each time was assured that maintenance would come to fix it within 20 minutes. That never happened. Finally, after the 5th call, maintenance did come and informed me it was a problem in my building and he had to leave to try to fix it but would be back. He never returned. In addition to the AC, my mini fridge was not working, the main light in the bathroom was burned out, the balcony sliding door was not closing all the way, and the phone in my daughter's room was broken. These issues were mostly resolved but the AC was never repaired so I spent my first 2 nights in an 87 degree room. Finally we were moved to new rooms on the 3rd day, which were wonderful with working air conditioners but at that point I was already so frustrated with having spent so much time away from my vacation dealing with these issues. No one seemed to care too much and hardly apologized. The language barrier was huge too - many people acted like they didn't understand a word of English and looked at me like I was crazy when trying to explain my troubles. Other highlights of our trip included my daughter's friend being charged for a manicure which they were unable to do because she had gel on her nails that they were unable to remove. Finally her card was credited but this was after speaking with several different people who could not seem to figure out how to refund her. She did go on to get a pedicure and my daughter a massage, which they said were great, but when the girls asked about the "amenities" that were promised them after their services, they were told "there are none." To top it all off, my daughter's friend FOUND A CATERPILLAR IN HER SALAD from the Gabi Club. When she complained, the server came over and got her room number but nothing was done about it. No apologies or anything. I am so frustrated and disappointed by our experience as the property really is beautiful and gave us such high expectations upon arrival. It went downhill from there. I'm sorry to say that this trip was very memorable for all of the wrong reasons. I will not be returning, nor will I be recommending the property to friends.

The resort at Paradisus Punta Cana is very large and spread out. And sometimes the wait for the shuttle is 15 or 20 minutes. But remember, waiting in paradise isn't a hardship.

 

Why You Should Go

Only 35 minutes from the Punta Cana airport. Your dream vacay will be here zippity zip.

Rally or beat the swim trunks off your opponent on four tennis courts. A little rivalry never hurt anybody.

You can tee off at the world-renowned Cocotal Golf & Country Club. Bring your A game.

In the surf, you can dive into kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving (for certified drivers).

On terra firma, there are guided hikes, bike tours, a rock climbing wall, paddle tennis and more.

BARS/NIGHTLIFE

Okay, this place is swimming with bars - the lobby, the swim-up in the pool, and in a few of the nosh spots. The Red Lounge is also where you can throw down. But if you want rock star treatment, go for Royal Service where you can revel in the aahh-some of the Gabi Club Bar. All bars open at 9am and close at midnight. Time to kick it in paradise.

Hours of operations: 9am-7pm. Mini Buffet (lunch): noon-2pm.

Location
Located 35 minutes from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) and 1.5 hours from La Romana Airport. Plaza Bavaro (shopping) is five-minute walk. A new shopping center, Palma Real Shopping Village, has recently opened with great restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. Stores include everything from cigars, clothing, gifts, jewelry and more. There is even a Hard Rock Cafe and a Tony Roma's. A shuttle bus runs every 2 hours from the resort. Manati Park (eco-park, with dolphin encounters) is 15 minutes away.

Holy Week
