Our Way to Say Happy Holidays

Our Way to Say Happy Holidays

by Hope Heldmar

Whether you spend the holidays rockin' around a Christmas tree or a palm tree, we're showing you a few ways to make this season extra beachy. From gift ideas to drink recipes to destination celebrations, we're sharing the beach vacation ideas and recommendations we've found to brighten this holiday season.

Beachin' Gift Guides

Getting gifts is great, but it's giving that makes the holiday season so magical. That said, figuring out what to get for other people can be daunting. We can at least help with the travelers and beach lovers you know. Browse our gift guide to get ideas for holidays and birthdays. Plus, we have your tech-savvy friends and family covered with eco-friendly gadgets. We help you find the right gift for those you know prefer to make sand angels instead of snow angels.

A Holiday Drink

The Coconut Eggnog is a perfect blend of Caribbean and holiday flavors. It takes a while to prepare, but shared with friends and family, this delicious cocktail is totally worth the time. For a simpler cocktail, try the Feliz Navidad. It's blue thanks to Curacao (which shares its name with the Caribbean island) and includes tequila, lime juice and sparkling wine. Mix these drinks as a fun way to say, "I want to wish you a merry Christmas."

Christmas Day In Destination

If you're lucky enough to be spending your Christmas in Cancun, we've got suggestions and tips to help you make the most of your holiday vacation. Our quick guide includes the festivities leading up to Christmas and places to spend Christmas Eve. Then you just need a tasty Christmas Day dinner. So we suggest the top three foodie destinations. Find out why San Juan, Puerto Rico is one of the best foodie destinations in the world, or visit the only microbrewery in Los Cabos. Even if you miss Christmas dinner, you can still get your foodie on at these prime spots for New Years and beyond.

NYE: Fireworks Over the Ocean

New Years on the beach is great for two reasons: (1) Fireworks over the ocean are awesome (2) You can cure the next day's hangover with the soothing sounds of the ocean. We've been thinking about amazing New Years parties in Mexico and the Caribbean.

It's easy to find a flight to Cancun for the high-octane festivities. Spend New Years Eve there and then hop over to the calmer Cozumel for a relaxing start to 2014 at resorts like the family-friendly Sunscape Sabor Cozumel or the adults-only Secrets Aura Cozumel. If you don't have a passport, just visit the posh hotel parties in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Condado section is home to swanky hotels like the San Juan Water and Beach Club and La Concha Resort. Check out these destinations if you think a merengue at midnight sounds like the perfect way to start the New Year.

As our way of wishing you and yours a happy a New Year, we'll share a Puerto Rican tradition. Celebrators eat twelve grapes in the twelve second countdown to midnight for good luck in the coming year. We hope with that luck we'll all get to the beach in 2014.
