The setting is just stunning and lots of animals to enjoy, but if you like good food, this is not it.

This is our second time here. The setting is just beautiful, and there are so many animals to see. The beach is protected, and it is next door with a tunnel to Xcaret Park. Those are all plus plus plus. The drawback is they have 4 really good restaurants, and if you want to go to them, you have to get up at 0630 and stand in a line. No one wants to get up that early and stand in a line to get a nice dinner, and there are only two other choices if you don't. The buffet and Paco's tacos and they get old by the end of the week.

    Amazing family Christmas!

We spent Christmas at the resort with our family of four (two adults, two teenagers who are basically walking snack machines), and overall, we had a fantastic time. The resort itself is set in a jungle, which means nature is very present. There are animals everywhere—monkeys, iguanas, coati, deer, agouti, bats, birds—just casually living their best lives among the guests. As long as you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you… although the monkeys will absolutely judge you from the trees (and might steal stuff from your room if you don’t close your doors). Thankfully I didn’t encounter any snakes😅 We stayed in Building 12, which backs onto the basketball and tennis courts. It was nice and quiet and surrounded by greenery on all sides. From our balcony and front door, we had front-row seats to monkey antics and the occasional bat fly-by. The room was clean and comfortable. The shower pressure and temperature were a little unpredictable—kind of like a tropical surprise—but it worked well enough and didn’t ruin our trip. We skipped the à la carte restaurants and stuck with the buffets, which honestly worked great for us. There was something for everyone, and with a bit of creativity, you can build some pretty tasty Mexican meals. We preferred the beach buffet and usually ate both breakfast and lunch there for the views and vibe. The snack bar was a lifesaver with hungry teenagers. Special shoutout to Ramón, the waiter there—he’s hilarious and deserves some kind of award. Go meet him. We spent most of our time at the beach rather than the pools. The beach lagoon was amazing: warm, calm water, tons of fish, and perfect for floating around pretending you don’t have responsibilities. I’m not a big ocean person, so this was a major win for me. The beach has a fun atmosphere, including morning water Zumba—which is exactly as entertaining to watch as it is to participate in. Get to the beach early if you want chairs, especially shaded ones, because they go fast. The pools were also great, though a little cooler. They were perfect after the beach for cooling down and enjoying a drink (or two) from the swim-up bar. Bonus entertainment: iguanas chilling in the trees while you float below them like it’s completely normal. The gym had everything we needed and was never overly busy. We also joined a few morning stretch classes near the beach buffet with Yadira, which were an excellent way to start the day after a delicious breakfast. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful, and they put on a lovely Christmas Eve celebration for everyone. We’re not big night owls, but we did catch one evening show—a Cirque du Soleil–style performance with a Mexican Christmas twist—and it was genuinely impressive. Very talented performers. We skipped Xcaret because our kids weren’t that interested, and we didn’t feel like paying a small fortune for teenage boredom. We considered Xplor but ran out of time—next trip, maybe. Bottom line: we had a great time and would absolutely return. Ignore the Negative Nancys—this place is worth it, unless your vacation checklist includes five stars and a red carpet.
