Occidental
Overall stay and location are good. Food was awful. I stayed in many resorts with all inclusive but food here was not good at all.

4.5 stars, amazing vacation!
We stayed 10 days at Occidental At Xcaret Destination and it was amazing. It was my husband our 13 year old son, and myself. To start the resort itself is absolutely gorgeous. We loved all the wildlife and the lush grounds. The staff went above and beyond and never ran into anybody that wasn't helpful and friendly. The room needed a bit of refreshing (ac vent had mildew or mold all over it and needed more regular cleaning or changing, which is why I didn't give 5 stars, needed a exhaust fan in the bathroom, but unfortunately in this kind of humidity, we run across it often), what we'd except for a fairly budget friendly resort. I'm very sensitive as I have MCAS and a lot of allergies, one being mold, so I think if we return I'll just bring a small air purifier (which I might just do anytime we go to a humid place, it's not a con for only this resort, but very common in tropical areas). The room and resort were clean and tiny otherwise, beds and pillows were comfortable. We had a 3rd floor Jr. Suite and had monkeys visit daily on the balcony. The females and babies were very friendly, we didn't touch them, but they would sometimes try or did touch us (one rubbed my husband's arm, he said the hand was soft lol). The males didn't come often, but when they did, one in particular was a bit aggressive, trying to grab our son's hat off his head and chased him back into the room, nothing too serious, but something to be aware of, so be cautious. They were fun to watch though. The birds that frequented the trees outside our room were beautiful as well. Tons of large iguanas, one very pretty orange one hung at the pool by our building and even took a swim (we were in building 19 and found it a perfect location). We walked all over and even ended up going as far as Hotel Xcaret and were told we couldn't go any further. There's a cenote if you walk that way. A tip is to use the live 360 app and it will show you which direction you're going. It uses GPS so works even if you're data roaming is off. As for food, we were not going in expecting a fine dining experience, but we wanted to make sure we all had something we enjoyed eating and that my food was safe as I have celiac disease and need gluten free that is free from cross contact. No complaints, we all had good options we enjoyed and even loved. The Asian restaurant was our favourite and the Italian was second. We didn't care for the steakhouse to be honest, but still didn't go hungry. The filet at the Italian was better in our opinion. The staff was so amazing and very helpful, especially for myself. I do have a Spanish celiac sheet that explains gluten and cross contact, but I only showed it a few times the first few days, then I realized they all understood (at least the managers and chefs did) and I felt comfortable just telling the hostess I had celiac and they would get the captain/manager. Sometimes the chefs came out. I would like to mention we do tip and I tip the managers and chefs if they come out. Not a huge amount, but something. I don't think it's necessary, but very much appreciated. Of course we also tip any of our servers, cleaning staff, etc, as well. All staff were helpful, but some I would like to mention by name. Hanssen in hospitality helped us by emailing all the restaurants to let them know about my celiac requirements and brought us to the buffet when we first arrived and introduced us to chef Carlos. Chef Carlos, chef Candy, and chef Humberto (and others I'm sorry to say I forgot their names) helped make my food not only safe, but delicious. Captains/managers Emilia and David (so sorry that I didn't write down the other manager's name, and I forgot her name already) would generally take my order and Emilia would get me to write down what I'd like for lunch or the next day's breakfast and lunch and approximate times so wait time was less. Our servers at the main buffet - Marbella, Elena, and Gerardo (so sorry to those I've missed) made us feel like family by the time we left. All in all I think we'll definitely be back. For the price we paid we felt like we had such an amazing deal! The beach for us was one of the only cons as it's clean and beautiful, but small, but we knew that going in so I didn't lower the star rating for that reason. We went for the jungle vibe as that's what our son really wanted, nature and wildlife and Occidental At Xcaret didn't disappoint and truly shines in this area. The food photos I'm sharing are only celiac safe meals (desserts included!) so if anybody with celiac is looking into this resort they will know what to expect. I have other food issues so my food may seem bland or repetitive, but it was what I asked for and was delicious. I also am not posting photos of Xcaret park these are all from the resort itself, including the on site ruins.

run from this hotel!
The food is terrible! Hotel feels dated and dirty. Theres not enough seats around the pools. The air conditioner in our room did not work and wasn't fixed during our stay.

Not sure if we will return.
Overall are stay was good. A lot to be desired though. Food selection gets repetitive and at certain times you only get 1 choice and it is always the same. If you don’t get a spot by 9 am you won’t get a chair anywhere people just throw towels around like children saving spots lol. There more but I only get 100 characters.
