Paradise
2nd time back after 10 years as our favorite hotel on planet so far. It is a magical place 27' in early feb, deer, coaties, lizards, gunipigs and a massive array of burds wonder the grounds. Buy the week long pass for xcaret at discount at reception and you add turtles, doliphins and much more with 2 private entrances. Vegans have many options but not as labelled up or on menu as could be. We had one bad experience re food and Evelin Heinandz emailed the chefs and sorted the problem and tofu specials there after. Staff are all amazing with welcomes where every you go from everyone even gardeners. Truely amazing paradise, just note quite as on the vegan as could be although loads of choice however

A really excellent experience with the exception of a couple of negatives
My wife and I had a wonderful 8 days at the Occidental Xcaret (ish-car-et). Our room was clean and very comfortable and the maid did a great job, the small fridge in the room was topped up daily. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful, with the exception of a couple of individuals who clearly couldn’t be arsed to open a drawer and break our 100 peso bills into 20’s so that we could tip for meals or drinks. Oddly none of there colleagues had any issue opening the same drawer on the many other occasions when we'd asked for change. One unhelpful young man even chose to lecture us that they only offered small change when they had it as a ‘favour’ to guests. Which had me thinking its a damn good job we didn’t adopt the same attitude to tipping their staff. The wait staff at the bars and restaurants work very, very hard and were unfailingly friendly, polite and always gave excellent service so we felt they more than deserved a tip. Not having an app to book restaurants like other resorts was a minor irritation as you can only book restaurants a couple of days in advance. So you keep having to go back to reception and queue up every other day or so, but on the plus side I suppose that small inconvenience helps provide employment for locals. Our concierge Andrea was very welcoming and helpful explaining the layout and general workings of the resort when we first arrived. And after that she kept checking that we were happy and had everything we needed whenever she saw us. Breakfast at the restaurant by the beach cove was always a lovely way to begin your day, it starts serving breakfast at 8am. Breakfast at the buffet in the main building starts a little earlier. There’s a very good choice of à la carte restaurants to make reservations for. The Mediterranean (very good, we went twice), Asian (excellent), Seafood and Steak restaurants were our particular favourites. The bar staff at the Sports Bar are great, but bar itself is a pretty soulless grey box. It looks like a cut-price film set for a bad 80’s made for TV movie. ‘Cheers’ it ain’t but the staff there sure make you feel welcome. One small word of caution though, if you choose to buy anything from the aptly named ‘Check Pharmacy’ in reception make sure to double check your change. I bought two of bags of potato chips there (crisps to us Brits) for $14.31 USD! I was still somewhat numb with shock and questioning my sanity for paying such an eye watering amount ($14.31 MAGA dollars = 247 pesos = $19.58 Canuck dollars). Because of that I didn’t immediately notice that I’d only be handed 53 pesos change - rather than the correct 253 pesos change due from the 500 peso bill that I’d just paid with - until I was literally two steps outside the door. Now I’d normally been inclined to right this off as an honest mistake, but the fact that the lady who’d just served me started to apologize the second I stepped back through the door struck me as more than a little suspicious. Especially as I hadn't had a chance to explain why I was back before the frenzied forehead slapping, profuse apologies and ingratiating smiling began! For all she knew I could have simply forgotten to buy a toothbrush! But all in all the Occidental resort is a really fantastic place, the lush grounds are impressive and fun to explore. There's a pair of small white tailed deer wondering around who are very friendly. Other wildlife includes Coatis (pointy nosed lemur type creatures, Agouti (look like long legged guinea pigs after an intensive course of GLP-1) and Iguanas. A couple of Spider monkeys hang out in the trees and on room balconies. There’s also an enclosure with Flamingos beside one of the pools, and several pairs of Parrots and Macaws in reception so it's quite the menagerie. There’s even the ruin of a Mayan sea temple out on the headland near the cove with the beach, which is a great spot to take photos early in the morning. The beach (which has a boom across the mouth of the cove) is a lovely safe place to swim and is real sun trap. Every single time we’ve been to Mexico we’ve been impressed by the warm welcome and sunny disposition of the people working there. This time was no different and overall I’d highly recommend the Occidental Xcaret as great value and an excellent place to vacation!

Beautiful Resort
This is our second time at Occidental Xcaret. We've stayed in Jamaica and the Domincian, but always end up returning to Mexico. The resort is an incredible value. It is very close to the parks which are wonderful! We like Xplor the best! The adults only beach is great for snorkeling. We've stayed in the Club level and Concierge level rooms and would recommend Club level for location and if you want alcohol in room. We would recommend Concierge for closer access to pool, nicer room/TV, and ease of reservations access. We would personally chose Concierge next time. The highlights are the beach, snorkeling, access to parks, beautiful resorts with lush vegetation and wildlife. The only slight con would be food. It is very mid. However, it is still very enjoyable, and for the cost of the resort is still very good. The spa massage was a highlight for me, the staff are very good. The resort staff are fun, helpful, and want to ensure you are taken care of. We will be back.
