Great island getaway!

We have stayed on the island 4 different years for a week each time. The Occidental is the only resort we have stayed at more than once! We love the way the site is set up with animals living all around the property! The staff does a great job keeping the place clean and yet being surrounded by trees and plants everywhere! The food is great with seafood selection at every meal if you wish! Diving is convenient with the best sites just minutes away with Prodive right on location. The only thing I would like different is the addition of stand up paddleboards for use with the resort stay. We will definitely stay here again!

A so-so trip

The food at the buffet was lukewarm at best and caused much gastric discomfort. Resort is focused on selling "timeshare" not the current guest needs or requests. We booked a single king bed room and we were given a 2 full size bed room. We couldn't sleep together. Not much sleep to speak of. I'm 6'-4" and really a full size bed! Anyway it was warm and many very attentive wait staff, help for the most part very friendly.

the absolute WORST resort i've ever been to...

i originally read reviews on this resort and thought to myself, it can't be this bad... but trust me it was ROUGH!!! If you must stay here (please DON'T) you have got to stay on the ROYAL LEVEL--that was the only saving grace. The Royal Level has unlimited wifi and 24 hr room service and a royal level restaurant... but outside of that this place is a HUGE MISS!! FOOD: breakfast at the buffet was the best meal... every other meal at every single restaurant was MUSHY & DISGUSTING!!!!! like i really wish there was a McDonald's/Fridays/Olive Garden/Chipotle/ANYTHING ELSE nearby because the food at this resort was horrible... and i mean BAD!!! even the pizza was bad---and how do u mess up pizza?!?! ... and then most of the bars ran out of fruits for drinks---no pineapple, watermelon, or limes... SMH... oh and you have to even get up super early to try to make reservations for these restaurants--so you're standing in a line to reservation to eat horrible food.... what an EPIC FAIL!!!! so most times we ended up ordering burgers or turkey sandwiches from room service smh... POOL/BEACH: lots of seaweed all over the beach... you can tell it's not cleaned everyday. it just looks and even smells dirty. and the bar that's by the pool--like there's a stinch in that region that makes you not even want to order a drink. like i'll never forget that smell... felt like i needed to spray that Glade Hawaiian Breeze or something to clear the atmosphere lol... the resort also needs better LIGHTING!!! bc once the evening hits you can barely see a thing!!!! and the sound of the wild animals mixed with the complete darkness is like a horror movie... ENTERTAINMENT: where was it?!?!?!!? they had some corny random guy one night telling really bad jokes to a crowd of 5 people... like where is the dancing/music/something?!?!?! STAFF: some of the staff was ok but everyone is clueless... and beware of the timeshare scammers!!!! i mean RUN from them... they will try to have u sitting in a 2-3 hour timeshare pitch. and also make sure you go to the correct excursion desk. there are men that stand around and have on badges as if they work for the resort--THEY DON'T!!! they will set up faulty excursions for you!!!! DON'T FALL FOR IT!!!! EXCURSIONS: if it had not been for excursions OFF this property we definitely would have left early!!! if in cozumel you must go snorkeling because the water is soooooo beautiful and amazing!!!!! prettiest water i've ever seen in my life (and i travel A LOT!!!) ... we also did ATVs--it was ok, i've definitely done better atv tours/excursions in other countries. altogether cozumel is really really beautiful!! but this resort is a BIG NO NO!!!! save your money and go somewhere else!!!!

Fantastic vacation oasis

My daughter and I had the most amazing time at this resort! Every year during Spring Break, both her and I travel to a new beach resort destination. The Occidental in Cozumel didn't disappoint and in most cases, exceeded our expectations. The grounds are pristine. Very tropical and lush oasis, with various wildlife to enjoy and share our adventure. The staff is the most hospitable and friendly staff we've ever experienced. We took advantage of several of the activities offered and Oscar was absolutely fabulous to work with. He went over and above to make certain we had a great time. We enjoyed snorkeling, Cozumel is a great place to do so as the waters are calm and clear. After all day at the beach, we relaxed in a very comfortable, well stated room. Which was always stocked with enough free bottled water. If you are looking for a beautiful, relaxing vacation this is an excellent choice. The Mojito's are the best I have ever had! The food however, is average but we really enjoyed the grilled hamburgers on the beach. We cried when we had to leave. We are definitely returning very soon.
