    Overall nice stay

If you can get past the front desk incompetence upon check in, you’ll have a good time. Every time the front desk is horrible.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fantastic Stay – So Glad I Didn’t Listen to the Negative Reviews!

Amazing Staff, Great Location, and Beautiful Views! absolutely loved this hotel! From start to finish, the staff were fantastic — nothing was ever too much trouble. Everyone was so friendly, always smiling, and greeting you with a “good morning” or “good evening.” They really are a credit to the hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable with an amazing sea view. It was next to the lift, so it could get a little noisy in the mornings, but it didn’t affect our stay at all. The only small thing I’d change is to add a bit of colour to the rooms, as they feel a bit plain — but that’s just personal taste. Housekeeping was excellent. The minibar was refilled daily, and we always had fresh towels. Occasionally we had to ask for hand towels, but they were brought up within minutes. The food was lovely and always fresh. I’m quite a fussy eater, so breakfast and lunch were definitely my favourites. The evening meals weren’t really to my taste, but there was always something at the snack bar that I enjoyed. Some of the food could be a little lukewarm at times, and it would be great if the evening buffet included more kid-friendly or British-style options like burgers, hot dogs, pasta, and fries. The food is mostly Mexican — which is understandable, of course! The entertainment team, pool bar, and beach bar staff were all amazing. They work so hard to make everyone feel welcome and keep the atmosphere fun and relaxed. The only downside for me was that a few guests ignored the no-smoking rules — smoking at the bar, in the pool, and on the loungers — which was really disrespectful. Staff did their best to handle it politely. The pool could also use a daily clean before opening, as sometimes there were hairs floating in it, and the pool tiles could do with a good jet wash. But honestly, these were just small things and didn’t take away from how much we enjoyed ourselves. There were seven of us in total, and we all had the best time. I nearly changed hotels after reading some of the negative reviews, but I’m so glad I didn’t! We loved every minute of our stay and would absolutely return to Occidental Costa Cancún again.

    Good hotel, nice location

Good hotel with awsome staff. Pool is quite deep, like 135cm. Staff is awsome and beach bar is nice. Beach could be bigger. Food is decent. Location is good, short distance for shopping malls and easy access to ferry

    4 night stay

Premises are beautiful and very well maintained. Barcelo brands never disappoint. Beds are very comfortable. Rooms are clean throughout. Drinks are very good quality. My favorite food was at Claraboya restauran. Seafood is so good. Staff is fantastic and friendly. Beach is nice with no seaweed. Location is great too. I noticed that guests are unusually happy here. People singing at the lobby bar. And also at karaoke night by the pool. We’ll be back

    Just OK

First solo trip to Cancun. First impression was not great. Due to confusion on my booking site, my reservation began the day after my arrival. Not the hotels fault but I was met with the attitude of not our problem! I was able to get a room and was told I would not have to move rooms the following day. BUT!!! They sure did charge TWO environmental fees! One for the first night and one for the reservation dates! I was shown to my room which was on ground level by the pool with a sliding glass door going to the pool. I booked a 2nd floor or higher room as I was alone. After pleading for something higher, I was put on the 5th floor…with a great view of a parking garage. Cars had a GREAT view direct into my room! Since I was not there for a view, I didn’t complain. Until the next evening when it poured the rain…and my room flooded! They thought it would be ok to push the water out and leave me there! It was due to rain every day that week so once again I had to beg for a different room. I was moved to the 4th floor and a garden view. Nice room that night…with a leak on the bathroom counter and no air conditioning! Back to front desk! Moved to another 4th floor room and stayed for the remainder of my stay. No apology for inconvenience, no offer of compensation, nothing. Just an attitude each time I spoke with the desk. Buffet restaurant was just ok. No AC the last day I was there. Staff obviously didn’t want to be there. The mexican restaurant was great, highly recommend their breakfast! Pool was nice, more lounge chairs are needed. Staff serving drinks are THE BEST thing about this hotel! The “beach” was nothing more than some very coarse sand on top of concrete. If you want to get in the water, be able to climb! There’s a concrete retaining wall you have to get over. Swim area is a very small roped off spot due to ferry’s, speed boats and the pirate ships flying by all day. Location is closer to downtown Cancun, on the northern end. You’ll need a taxi or bus to get to the shops, restaurants and nightlife.
