Lovely resort! Great time and beautiful pools and beaches!

Our stay at Dreams Onyx resort and spa was wonderful. We went for 5 nights and 6 days. Our intent for the trip was to escape the brutal Winter cold weather and do absolutely nothing but sit in the sun, relax and eat yummy food. We had preferred club and it was well worth the price. It was nice to have the little extras that made the trip easier: our own concierge Albert, who was fabulous -checking in with us every morning via WhatsApp to see if there was anything he could help us with. We often asked him if he could "get us on the list" at the specialty restaurants as they don't have reservations. Being on the list helped reduce wait times. **Important to note-if Albert makes a restaurant recommendation, take his advice, which is info he gets from other guests. We didn't and had the only negative experience at the steak house at Breathless (food was good but bad service ruined it). Preferred club also included easy, fast check-in at the preferred club lounge that was open all day and evening with a bartender to make tasty adult beverages, preferred club pool right at the beach as well as preferred club area at the beach that was not as crowded as other areas (staff does come around to confirm your room with their list to check), and preferred seating at the buffet (quiet area with close proximity to buffet with tableside service where you can order a la carte or go to the buffet). The food at the resort was, for the most part, good. We found the buffet at Breathless better than Onyx. The specialty restaurants at Onyx were good. Capers (Italian), Cin Cin (mediterranean), Spice (we did the Hibachi dinner) were all very good. We were not fans of Mercure (French). The taco truck was yum but the 2 times we went they only had chicken tacos so we didn't get a real feel for it. One thing to note, that was disappointing, was the only food choices during the day were pool/beach area grills that had hot dogs or hamburgers or you had to go into the buffets (at Onyx or Breathless). Granted, the hot dogs and burgers were pretty good but I just wish they had other options. For a weekend trip it would be fine, but we were there for 6 days and it became pretty redundant. Our room was wonderful-comfy, huge bed, AC worked great, mini fridge stocked when we needed it. There was always plenty of bottled water available everywhere. *** I will offer the same suggestion I took from another post- take probiotics for a few weeks before you travel. I am older and food can jack up my stomach so I did this. i did not have any issues with food or drink.

Great resort with an even greater staff

I had a great 7 day trip with my family! This was my first time at this resort. The resort itself is really well-kept, clean, and beautiful, but what makes this place worth visiting (and probably going back to) is all of the staff. Everyone is so welcoming and kind. Our butler, Juan, was simply the best! He checked in on us in-person multiple times a day even though he is taking care of many guests each week. He took care of our dinner reservations every night so that we didn’t ever have a wait. He also took care of booking a massage at the spa. He even drove us in a golf cart to a restaurant at the resort next door so that we didn’t have to walk. When we first got to our room, there was an issue with the shower drain, but Juan got someone to come to the room almost immediately to fix it. Juanito made our vacation stress-free, and I couldn’t recommend anyone more than him! The other staff members I want to shoutout are two of the bartenders at the Preferred Club Pool Bar, Alejandro and Carlos. They are both super fun guys who you look forward to talking to every day you’re there. On the last day of our trip, Alejandro went out of his way to apologize to us for not having a chance to talk with us as much that day because he was super busy at the bar. This was such a touching but unnecessary gesture by him that just shows just how much he values his connection to the guests he interacts with. As I said above, the resort makes the vacation worth it, but the staff, including all the waiters, bartenders, maids, butlers, and countless others, are the reason you will remember your vacation here for a lifetime and will lead to you wanting to go back.

A relaxing but beyond fun retreat for 2 moms that needed a break!

Our trip was absolutely phenomenal. The resort grounds are so beautiful and the pools are PERFECT for everyone!!!! We had a preferred swim out and loved everything about it. Aris, our butler, was INCREDIBLE and made sure we got reservations anywhere we wanted and checked on us throughout our stay to make sure everything was more than up to par. The food was incredible and everyone was so nice! Our favorite place to spend our time besides the ocean was the preferred pool at the swim up bar. Alejandro was beyond attentive to us and made sure we had the best time during our time at the resort. We cannot say enough nice things about him. He and Aris truly took our vacation to the next level. Anything they could do to make us happy, they did and then some! We feel so grateful and cannot wait to bring our families back! We also spent some time at the spa which was so incredibly beautiful. The added relaxation was exactly what these 2 moms needed before headed back to our families. There is also entertainment every night! We would spend all day enjoying the beach or pool and then get ready for a nice dinner. Afterwards we would grab a cappucino and watch whatever show they were having that night. The theater is beautiful with open air breezes that made it even more enjoyable after a long day in the sun. 10/10 would come back here and recommend everyone to stay here. You won't be disappointed!

Great Holiday Experience with Kids – Highly Recommended

We stayed with our children (13 and 10 years old) in a swim-up room. This choice turned out to be excellent. We were located close to the reception, which was a bit further from the restaurant and the main pool, but on the other hand, there was more privacy and peace, which we especially appreciated. After a relatively smooth check-in, we were unpleasantly surprised – our room had 2 queen size beds, which we really couldn’t have slept on. At home, each of us has such a large bed, and now we were supposed to sleep two in one? :-) No way. So, even though I was terribly tired after 26 hours of traveling from Europe, I went to the reception at half past midnight and requested an extra bed for the children to be set up immediately (sofa bed). I must commend the staff, as they did it right away. Otherwise, though, I don’t understand the idea that 4 people are supposed to sleep comfortably (!) on 2 queen size beds. In Europe, we are not used to that, and it would have been a real struggle for us. Other than that, everything went smoothly. The environment was very nice and clean, and the staff is amazing – a huge support for the resort. The water park pool felt freezing to us, but in the end, we went in every time. The sea was fantastic; we spent hours there and there was always a place to lie down (the same for pool area). The bars were great – the staff went everywhere with us and brought cocktails. We mainly ate at Carnival. Breakfasts were fantastic – absolutely nothing to complain about (maybe except for the juice, which wasn’t real juice but some kind of drink, and the coffee wasn’t perfect either; it would be good to learn how to make cappuccinos and latte macchiatos). Lunch and dinner, however, we found not entirely satisfactory – we simply couldn’t choose much and kept eating the same things. It would be better to have more variety so everyone could find something they like. There are plenty of options for vegetarians and gluten-free choices. I am very positive about the staff in general – they are a huge support for the resort. We enjoyed our holiday very much; it was great. Everyone can find what suits them – those who want privacy can find it, and those who enjoy socializing also have the option. It’s also worth mentioning a special compliment – we had a planned excursion and, because we were leaving very early before the restaurant opened, we ordered an early breakfast to our room. And it was fantastic. The staff prepared and served a wonderful breakfast to the room for us and the children. The only downside was the mosquitoes. My daughter and I were very bitten, it was itchy and uncomfortable. At night, we could hear the mosquitoes buzzing in our room. But they were so small that we couldn’t find them. Next time, I would bring an electric mosquito repellent. One more note about children: we were a little worried that there would be small children everywhere and it wouldn’t be quiet. But it was fine. Children have their own corners and don’t disturb others (and we were not staying in the Preferred Club). So, to sum up, don’t hesitate – it’s a wonderful place.
