Took a gorgeous piece of land and ruined it

If you are looking for beautiful clear waters and soft white sand, and nothing else, this is the place for you. We could not have asked for a more beautiful beach. Of all our island vacations, this beach and water were our favorite here. The resort, although, was a huge disappointment. We will not be back. This hotel obviously takes great pride in it's lobbies and restaurants as far as decor/lighting/and structure go. Walking in feels like you are at a 5-star resort. The rooms however have not been touched since whenever this place was built. The rooms and hallways are carpeted with old musty carpet that is in desperate need of replacement. Walking into the room you are greeted by a strong smell of mildew, old falling apart furniture, dust everywhere, and a rust filled bathroom. We were given a room with 2 full sized beds after booking a room with 1 king sized bed. We did not make a fuss because the view of the ocean made up for that. It had a gorgeous view- the only complaint with the view is you had to be standing on the balcony to see it (if you were sitting in the balcony chairs the rail is right at eye level). We noticed immediately on arrival the room felt very warm. The AC was on the coldest setting and could not be adjusted cooler- this was a big disappointment. The shower water had a strong smell of sewage all week long, which multiple other guests we talked with had the same problem. As for the beach, as gorgeous as the sand and water were, we wish they didn't have so many lounge chairs squeezed together. This beach is packed with chairs. You don't get your own private hut with two chairs and adequate space between the next families hut. Everyone is completely packed in. Also, they allow smoking on the beach and throughout the hotel grounds outdoors. This was a huge turnoff for the entire week as we were constantly surrounded by smokers who had no consideration to walk to the back of the beach to light up. This left us constantly relocating to avoid the smoke, which is not easy as everyone reserves their chairs with towels whether or not they are coming back all day. I enjoy resorts that you book your chairs and hut for the day and they are numbered, so you don't have to worry about someone moving your stuff and taking over the hut as their own while you grab lunch. This resort uses a first come first serve way of taking chairs. Another complaint, this resort allows public vendors to be on the beach. And they set up their tents right in the middle of the front row so they are completely unavoidable. You will be pestered all day to participate in overpriced watersports, buy cigars, jewelery, mixed drinks, and fake seashells. I have no problem that resorts bring the majority of the money to the economy of the island, but it would be much more considerate for them to set up along the end of the beach, and don't allow them to walk all throughout the beach all day long looking for money. Those who are interested can visit them at their tent at the end of the beach- just a suggestion. The food- the biggest disappointment of all. We love booking all inclusive trips so the last thing on your mind is how much money to bring. The quality of the food at this resort is less than that of a high school cafeteria. The buffet food is the only option if you can't make a dinner reservation and it is barely palatable. The breakfast there was great- no complaints at all about that. Lunch and dinner were awful- go somewhere else. The booking process for dinner reservations is a huge cluster. If you are a non-Level guest like we were, you can only book one day at a time. There is an app that is available starting at 8am you can book for that night. With our experience though, no one tends to the app reservations and your request is kept in "pending" for hours and then eventually you are given a "counter-offer" of hours later than you requested. Typically 9:30pm is all that is available. You can go to the lobby desk to make dinner reservations as well starting at 8am, but you will be in line for quite a while. The app is an excellent idea, just executed very poorly. The restaurants for dinner that are included in the all inclusive plan are Italian, Mexican, and Asian. We did not try the Asian because all the items include seafood which we do not eat. We wish the menus had more variety. Each place had 10-12 items to choose from (appetizers, entree, and dessert included- 3-4 of each to choose from). The Mexican restaurant was our favorite. ALSO- there was a huge difference in the waiters/waitresses in these restaurants compared to the buffet. All week we went to the buffet at breakfast and the employees there are extremely rude and act like they hate their jobs and hate you even more. The other restaurant staff was phenomenal. Very kind and outgoing, exactly what you could ask for. The pool bar was often a disappointment to us. Our favorite drink of the week, as is with most island visitors, was the pina colada. The pool bar made it different every time, sometimes it was completely liquid and not frozen as it is supposed to be, and sometimes they used vodka(?) I've never heard of using vodka instead of rum, and it is truly disgusting and was thrown away. The main bar inside the hotel was excellent and we often made our way into there for drinks. Also with the pool bar, they ran out of beer every day by noon. I'm not sure how this is possible at an all inclusive resort. Each day we had to go inside to the main bar to get beer. This is not very ideal to walk into the resort dripping wet and covered in sand. Overall, we do not feel we were given the quality that we paid for with this trip. We feel they took a gorgeous piece of land and ruined it. The best parts of this resort came naturally- the sand and water. We will absolutely be back to the Bahamas, but not back to Melia.

Great

$200 hold put on my card at checkin. I had to pack up myself and my two sons to change rooms after night two due to construction. They upgraded us to the Level for the inconvenience. The restaurants reservations process definitely needs improvement. The beach was the best part of our vacation. Overall great value and can't wait to return.

Had a good time

In general - we enjoyed our stay. Very clean, secure, very good service, Family friendly - good activities for children and adults. Food was ok nothing sparkly, drinks were not interesting at all. We will keep this resort in mind for another stay.

BEAUTIFUL!!!!

This was our first trip to the Bahamas and we had an amazing time! The staff was so friendly and helpful. The beach was gorgeous and clean. We did a lot of snorkeling around the rocks at the resort and were able to see some beautiful sea life. As you will read in other reviews some premium food and drinks were not included but definitely worth the money! I highly recommend it!
