The right choice for us!
We've just returned from 2 weeks over the Christmas and New Year's holidays, and we both agree that our first-time visit will bring us back next Christmas...or earlier, perhaps. While the resort was apparently fully booked, there was always plenty of room poolside and on the beach and easy availability at the buffet and à la cartes. The grounds are beautiful and our room, while not necessarily luxurious, was large enough and comfortable. We found the food to be mostly very good. The buffet had plenty of choice among an assortment of healthful and tasty foods and the various theme restaurants offered reasonable menus. The steak au poivre we enjoyed twice at the French restaurant was fantastic - cooked to perfection and very reasonably sized. I'd like to see just a bit more choice on that menu, however. I wish we had tried the Mar House for dinner a little earlier in our visit, for it was a very good venue in the evening. The Italian restaurant was excellent, too. As always, it is the staff that contributes so much to the pleasure of a visit, and the hard-working and very pleasant workers on the resort are a huge plus. Our room was always well cleaned in a timely fashion, and everyone we passed as we came and went was smiling and friendly. I especially appreciated the quick check-in and check-out, and the way in which our seating and coffee preferences were remembered in places we frequented, like the bar in the lobby and the buffet. I have a few minor complaints, however. We found a few interiors just a little too cool - too much contrast between the temperature outside and the A/C inside, especially in the main club lounge and some restaurants. We prefer quiet restaurants where conversation is possible, but the loud, thumping music in the Mexican restaurant and the steak house were off-putting and diminished the experience. Similarly, the youthful animators, trying to generate poolside enthusiasm for the younger set, could tone it down a bit, especially with the pounding music. Surely they could accomplish their objectives without drowning the rest of the resort in noise. However, these are minor concerns and would not discourage our return. All in all, great job Majestic Elegance. Wish I were back now, walking the beach.
