  The good, the bad highlights

  We stayed at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana and overall found the experience disappointing. We prepaid airport transportation, but the taxi never arrived. We waited about 90 minutes before another ride was arranged. Check-in was also extremely slow—about 90 minutes—and we were told the room we booked was unavailable. We were temporarily placed on the family side and moved the next day. The $100 credit given for the inconvenience was very limited (only usable at a logo gift shop or spa). While the resort looks beautiful at first glance, it is clearly in need of maintenance: broken roof tiles, peeling paint, damaged lighting, fountains and sprinklers that don’t work consistently, unreliable Wi-Fi, and a slow response to a power outage. During the outage, elevators were down and guests had to carry luggage up a large staircase with little staff assistance. Rooms are spacious but poorly designed—no drawer space, limited bathroom counter space, unreliable electrical outlets, narrow toilet area, difficult tub/hot tub access, wobbly lamps, and visible black mold in vents and exterior areas. Staff are generally friendly but limited English makes communication difficult. Service felt reactive rather than attentive. WhatsApp is used for communication, so download it in advance. Poolside seating must be claimed early. Towels often run out by early afternoon, and the pool chairs are very uncomfortable. The family pool lacks kid-friendly features. Restaurants that require reservations were mediocre; the buffet was the best dining option. Our butler, Jacob, was helpful and spoke English—he was a standout. We later learned the resort is scheduled to close April–November 2026 for major renovations, and guests may be moved to sister properties during that time. Overall, the resort has potential but falls short due to maintenance issues, inconsistent service, and poor value. We would not return in its current condition.

  Go somewhere else. Not worth it!

  I will not return to this property after a second visit. I reserved an accessible room for 4 people and when I arrived I had to fight to get a room with an accessible shower for a person wheelchair bound. When we got to the room there was 1 bed. It took 7 phone calls to get 1 extra bed and the 4 towels. The room has a rail for the toliet but the shower is atrocious for someone in a wheelchair. After having to scrunch my 17 y.o son on a couch the first night, they sent a bed second bed. With 2 box springs and no mattress. Horrible! No towels again day 2 more calls. They have high lounge beds by the pool but you can only use them if you are a club member so they wouldn’t let my husband in a wheelchair sit in one! The online photos show these and when I visited 3 years ago we could use them. They also have crappy towels for the pool. Thread bare and small… unless you are a club member… then you get a very nice towel. Staff is hit or miss with friendliness. The dinner options are pretty good, lunch by the beach is less than average.

  Will go back again!

  Our 2nd time. Good value, great beach, fabulous pool. Nice atmosphere, fun without rowdy and pleasant decor. Abundant, delicious variety of food. Yes, rooms were clean but need a little TLC like professional painting. We experienced some inconsistencies in food, service, linens provided, etc but nothing that spoiled our good time, just weird. Lovely surroundings, well kept tropical landscaping, Marisol at the buffet was attentive and responsive to our needs. Whirlpool was great & bar service, fun and eager to please. Entertainment mostly great. Needed better details on what activities and where. Felt very safe, liked shopping area and connection to see other hotels. Beach was softest and cleanest sand ever! Everything was an easy walk from room to pool to beach to dinner to show, etc. We will go back...and the other guests were nice, too. Many of them had been there before as well.

  Christmas Vacation 2025

  Just back from my 1st visit to Colonial and I am definitely going back! We were a family of 6 with 4 staying in Club and 2 on Family side, all returning guests except for me. Check in at Club was quick and we met our Butler Alex who set us up with WhatsApp for communication with her & gave us our resort tour. The food was fantastic every where ate ( 3xJapanese, Steakhouse, Mexican, Beach buffet for breakfast/ lunch, Room Service). The Club lounge close to the beach was super handy for grabbing a morning coffee, water, food or afternoon beers! Our rooms were exceptionally clean with towels and fridges stocked daily. The overall experience was fantastic and I wanted to especially give Alex (our Butler) a shout out. There was an issue with a water leak in my room day 4 and I contacted Alex to let her know about it. She had maintenance and housekeeping up right away and sorted. Unfortunately, the next day it was worse, so I shot her a message & she was up to my room right away, took pictures and contacted her Manager. I quickly packed my stuff and within 60 minutes they had me moved to a new room for my last 2 nights! That to me, is excellent guest service 👏 We are back in the land of snow but I look forward to my next visit to Colonial and will absolutely have Alex as my special request for a Butler. Thanks to everyone at Colonial for a wonderful Christmas vacation and see you again next year!

  Christmas at Colonial a must

  Just returned from our second Christmas week at the Colonial and it was amazing. Shout out to our amazing butler Alex luxiel Hidalgo she made our week seamless. Took care of our entire family, made sure all our reservations were made -we were looked after all day and was always responsive when we called. We travel quite a bit and I believe this resort to be the only one we have and will continue to return to. Colonial at Christmas time is magical. Staff is unbelievably friendly and hard working, food was plentiful and delicious. Rooms spacious and always cleaned without fail. Our entire family had a blast. See you next Christmas.
