What We Love

Being greeted with a glass of champagne or vino when you arrive at this epic boutiquey paradise.

The tiki-hut and private club feel to this magical escape-haven. (Thus, the name, right?)

The Nepresso machine and blackout curtains in the oh-so-comfy rooms that exude simple elegance.

Chillaxing while noshing on the breakfast buffet with the fringy, shady palms overhead.

The stress-squashing treatments at the spa, then napping in the hammock in your room.

Things to Know

As a bonus to you, a breakfast buffet is included with your room.

You're nestled in the heart of Playa del Carmen, just steps away from the city's famed 5th Avenue.

There's a Brazilian steakhouse so bring your taste buds. Beach appetit.

You can hang at not one, but two beach clubs on the sweet sand.

A movie theater is not far away. Great after-sun therapy.

You can enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and rose or white wine every day in the lobby at 5 pm.

    Just no

We stay there for one night yesterday. Surprise when we check out at noon we asked if we can stay for the day to used the pool as our flight was only tonight. They said we can stay until 1pm that’s it. First place in my life that kick us out after check out. Also the place was empty so don’t really understand the point. And we check in the night before at almost 7h30 at night so didn’t have to enjoy the pool at all.

    Wonderful small hotel

This is a great little hotel. The location is a block off 5th and about 2-3 blocks from the municipal plaza where there’s tons of street food vendors each night. There’s a great coffee shop about a half block away. Also only 2 blocks from the ADO station. Great AC, wonderful staff, big rooms. My only critique was lack of hot water (room temp was as hot as mine got), and the bath towels are a bit like plastic. Luckily they have nice plush robes. The pool area is best! The whole place feels like a jungle oasis right downtown. Safe, clean, comfortable with wonderful customer service.

Decent stay but could be better

We spent a week at Magic Blue Spa for some rest and relaxation after visiting Mexico City and Oaxaca. Overall we had a decent stay but there are some things that could definitely be improved. First impressions of the hotel are great, and the outdoor pool area as pictured is beautiful and we spent a lot of time here. On closer inspection though the sunbeds were quite stained and dirty and the some of the tiles in the pool were stained green with algae. The pool bar had a good variety of drinks and snacks and the staff there very friendly - the happy hour between 1-3pm was great value and the cocktails were very tasty. The room itself was ok. It was a good size with a very large bed. However the bathroom was quite disappointing and felt shabby and outdated. The water pressure in the shower was poor and frequently cold. We told management about this and were instructed to leave it 10 mins to warm up and to turn the tap in the sink on. It did eventually warm up but this felt a bit low-standard for a boutique hotel. It was also a shame that we appeared to have the only room in the hotel without a hammock in front. The buffet breakfast was served at the restaurant next door. Good variety of options and quality was okay, but not as good as other hotel breakfasts we had on this trip. Drinks were limited as well to one hot drink and one juice each which was bizarre. Location is great and just off 5th Avenue. It is opposite Coco Bongo so can get very noisy at night as other reviewers have said, but to be fair this was only an issue on one night out of the week we stayed here. Staff were overall quite friendly and pleasant, although there one or two slightly draconian rules which felt a little patronising e.g. we were left a slightly passive-aggressive note in the room asking us not to dry towels on the balcony. The spa had a good variety of treatments and was reasonable value after using the discount that we got for booking online. The facilities in the spa were very nice (e.g. indoor pool, jacuzzi), but it was a shame that they are not available to guests unless you pay a fee. This would've been good to use in our last few days where it was heavily raining. This is a bit misleading as this area is extensively photographed/promoted in the pictures of the hotel but it is not clear that this is not included. Overall not a bad stay but feels a bit misleading from the photos.

    Excellent, an enjoyable stay

We stayed at this lovely resort for one week. We found it very pleasant, very clean and very efficient. From the warm arrival to our departure we cannot fault it. The room was very spacious with a lovely king size bed. Everyday we had received clean towels and toiletries. The shower as mentioned before takes about one minute to run and you get endless hot water, it can be slippery so do please use the mat provided. Breakfast is a buffet from an adjoining restaurant with plenty to eat, providing local cuisine to cereals, fresh fruit etc. The seating for hotel occupants is outside (covered), a tip do wear mosquito spray as we got stung here. The pool area is clean and attractive, we never not got a sun bed. Beach towels are provided and yes you are warned if you lose them or your key card you will be charged, which is normal! We had a problem with our air -con not working after a few days and immediately after reporting it was fixed. The manager was professional and courteous at all times, nothing was ever a problem. There is also a pool bar / restaurant which we used a few times, Daniel who worked there needs to be mentioned as he was an absolute delight and always had a smile! In fact every employee did. We also used the spa and had two amazing massages and a collagen facial, all excellent. I would highly recommend and definitely go there again. A famous club called Coco Bongo is located very near and as the reviews before mentioned you can hear some music until 3am but we just wore ear plugs and had 7 nights of blissful sleep. The location is central and a short walk to 5th Avenue.

    Average hotel.

I'd say this hotel is just average. While it looks beautiful in the photos and even when you first arrive, there are major disadvantages. We had 2 rooms and when we checked in they gave us one keycard for each room and had us sign a form saying they would charge us if we lost the room key. Who does that? The rooms all look like they are in tree houses with lounge furniture and hammocks in front of each room. It's very pretty but we were on the second floor and the stairs to our unit were uneven and tilted precariously to the side. I was very nervous walking up the stairs at night in the dark, afraid I would fall. When I went to take a shower there was no hot water and zero water pressure. The most I could get was a lukewarm trickle of water. There are way better places to stay in Playa del Carmen.
