Good value but some letdowns

The BF and I stayed here for 5 days/4 nights in Nov 2017. The weather was somewhat rainy and not much sun, but we still got a nice tan and had an overall good time. Service: the staff were all very friendly and helpful, but not so much the ones at the front desk (see below under Room Comfort). Beach/Pools: we spent most of our time in the Ambar Blue pool which was always kept very clean. The swim-up bar was great, the bartenders attentive and friendly, even offered community shots from time to time and took shots with us. This was my favorite part of the resort. Dining Options: food at the buffet was great - high variety in selection and quality as well. Loved the mimosa/blood mary offered at breakfast right at the entrance and the sangria at lunch. Wish they also posted those drinks inside the buffet as well though. The a la carte restaurants were huge disappointments - we had Brazilian (Rodizio) and Italian (Portofino). The meats offered at Rodizio were mostly well-done which neither the BF nor I preferred. The raviolis at Portofino were horrible. The buffet/self-serve parts of both restaurants were good though, and offered different things from the main buffet. Room Comfort: our room came with a non-working jacuzzi tub and non-working TV. The minibar also wasn't fully stocked when we arrived (as it states in the room menu). We put in a request for the jacuzzi to be fixed but had to get a staff on our own to make it happen; took over a day and so we weren't able to use it until Day 3. Didn't even bother to complain about the TV. The minibar was a non-working fridge that did not keep things cold; we had to get a bucket of ice to manually make it happen, which may be typical in DR resorts but we'd never seen that before.

35th anniversary trip

Never tire of the beauty & cleanliness of the Bahia Principe resorts - this was no exception. As usual, the food was excellent, and the service was great. The waitresses in the lobby :Maridalia & Diocelina were two who stood out. The singer Constanza was an exceptionally great entertainer also. The main problem we had was trying to find out about the entertainment; nobody seemed to know for sure who was performing when, & the schedule we were given was vague on details, & not reliable. This is a flaw we find in most of the Bahia resorts, & we believe they should do much better.

Nice Place

The hotel staff were friendly and catered to our demands. The restaurants food was excellent. Beach was large enough to accommodate all guests if needed. The pool was beautiful. Only problem was that it closed at 6 PM every night which we felt was odd. When we arrived we were greeted by the staff and was introduced to our personal butler. He made our all our dinner reservations and even had a bottle of champagne placed in our room since it was our 25th anniversary. Very thoughtful. The room could of been cleaner. The Jacuzzi was dirty and the floors had sand throughout the room. The ceiling leaked when it rained. We informed staff and they said they'd take care of it and notify maintenance, but if it was fixed, it wasn't while we were there. The biggest complaint is that they are constantly trying to sell you something. Every place we went, (beach, restaurants, lobby) there was somebody pressuring you to by, excursions, clothing, club memberships. You name it they were trying to sell it. Made the trip less relaxing since we were always constantly dodging salesman. Once you figured out how to do that it made the experience a lot better.

Bed Bugs!!!!!

Since I am an avid reader of reviews, I write mine as honestly as I can. First off, the check in for this hotel is as confusing as it gets. No cool wet cloth or glass of champagne when you arrive. You walk up to the front desk and stand in line without any greeting from the staff. When you finally tell them your name, they ruffle through some paper envelopes for a bit. They put the 4 of us into a golf cart, and drove to a few other buildings on the resort but no explanation of what they were. We finally ended up where we began in the lobby of the Ambar Blue. Was told to take a seat. After another half hour, a man walked up and asked us to fill out some paperwork but all the info was redundant to info given previously. He then left and came back with two sets of room keys. Gave them both to my friend and none to us. We had no idea which couple was checked into which room. Then back into the golf cart we went. We reserved for the Ambar Blue but was put into rooms in the Ambar Green section of the resort without explanation. We reserved the Blue as it is closer to the beach than the green. We walked into our room to a very LOUD construction site right outside the balcony. Complete with whistling and cat calling workers as well as all those jackhammers. To make matters worse, it was filthy. We asked to change rooms. Was given another filthy room complete with bedbugs in the mattress. Yes, I always check. The third room I asked the manager to check out with me. When I pulled the sheets back, more bedbugs. The manager shrugged her shoulders and on to the next room. After 6 rooms, found one without bedbugs and a door that actually locked. Although it was filthy the main objective was met. Locking door and no bedbugs. Unfortunately, the phone did not work and after several requests to have it looked at, we just gave up. Also if you like to use a wash cloth when you shower, that isn't going to happen. They have them, just wont give them out. I asked every day for a wash cloth and finally got a single one the very last day. This check in process took 3 hours of our first day. Unfortunately, all the restaurants beside the buffets required reservations. I made reservations 2 weeks prior to arrival but was told I had to wait until we got there because you need a room number to make the reservation. The catch is, check in is at 3 but they stop taking reservations for that evenings dining at 3. Does not make sense. After another hour of arguing, finally got a reservation. Was told they fill up very fast. The irritating thing is that every restaurant that we went to was less than half full. The food was okay at most places and I would even say better than some places I have been to in the DR. Room service on the other hand was beyond awful. Took over 2 hours when it even did arrive and the food was in edible. The beach was nice with lots of chairs. Be advised that if topless nudity bothers you, this is not the beach for you. The pools were all very nice but getting a pool towel is probably not going to happen. Very limited. When they do bring towels out, they are gone within a minute and then more angry wet people are waiting. And as far as the pool towels go, you are probably better off not getting one as they smell terrible. I seriously wonder if they do not just skip the washer and put them all directly into the dryer. No, not even kidding. I would bet cash on that. If your only language is English, you should know that you will most probably not be understood by any of the staff. They don't even try. Review: If you are looking for a nice room, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a good beach, go ahead a try it. If night life is important, this place isn't too bad either. Food isn't top notch but also not terrible if you are lucky enough to get a table at anything other than a buffet. Would we go back? Absolutely not. When we arrived back home, we felt sorry that we paid the money and made the effort to go. It was not relaxing and everything seems so much of a struggle, I would much rather stay home and watch TV. There are other resorts in the DR that I would return to in a heart beat, this is not one of them.
