Old rooms and not so great food.

My wife and I stayed 5 days/4 nights, and we went through Monster. We were given silver wristbands, and learned quickly each color means different things like access and how you booked. Owners have gold and get preferred treatment. Our stay was not great, but the staff is overall friendly and accommodating. I'll break down our experience by category. Rooms: We asked for a new room the first night due to it having a loud leaking shower and a fridge that would not close. The safe was also old and I was told a key to the safe was $3/day. We were given a new room the next afternoon. Again, the customer service staff were great and understanding. The second room had a working shower and fridge, but the AC would not cool below 74 degrees Fahrenheit. Both rooms were very dated with old furniture and uncomfortable beds. Also, be aware they ask for you to NOT flush toilet paper, but instead put it in the trash can. Yuck! Food/Restaurants: Depending on your length of stay, you'll be given a certain number of reservations away from the buffet. You'll want to eat away from the buffet whenever you can as it is blah and very repetitive each day. We ate at the Brazilian restaurant and the Blue Lagoon which had a steak and seafood theme. Both of those meals were good. The buffet is very crowded, has few desirable food choices, kids with their hands in the food, and few drink choices. The food service by the beach was ok for simple snacks like burgers and hotdogs, and my wife said the sushi place by the beach was ok. Overall, I'm glad to be back home cooking my own food. Grounds and activities: The grounds were ok and mostly clean, but dated. The pools were mostly crowded, and the main adult pool had a nasty white film floating in it. They are also fairly deep, so you can only stand in certain areas if you are short. There was a quiet pool area on the right side of the resort(if you're looking towards the beach), and that is where I spent my time in the pool. One thing I really liked about the resort is that you can find and use cabanas for free. They were great havens from the Sun! The beach area is ok, but the beach itself is rocky and not too easy to walk out and enjoy. I did not catch the shows, but we did go to a dance party and that was fun. There were random activities by the main pool, and those seemed ok. There are peacocks and cats walking around, and the peacocks will make noises in the morning like roosters. My wife and I spent the majority of our time in cabanas near the beach or by the quieter pool. Other things: I did not enjoy the sales presentation, and I did not appreciate having a crappy room and then being asked to spend thousands to be immediately upgraded for the remaining 3 nights. I've been to other resorts and seen vacation presentations, and this was not too impressive. I would not choose this place again for a trip with my wife. This might be an ok choice if you have a huge family and it fits your budget. Again, the staff is great but they aren't working with the best resources. They are truly doing the best they can with what they have. I hope they will improve the food options and make specialty dining more available. If you're using Monster, I preferred the Punta Cana location. This one is bigger, but Punta Cana had a prettier beach and better grounds. Food was about the same, but I might give a slight edge to Puerto Plata due to the specialty restaurants. Safe travels!

Horrible, stay away if you have standards

First time on property greeted by rude and unprofessional check-in agent (clerk). Got to one of the multiple rooms we reserved and air-condition not working at 4pm. Went to first desk and after a long around told new room at 7pm. At 301 block of there is apparently a broken sewerage line. So that whole area smelled like crap. Also outside the rooms where dirty with trash bags like an abandoned building. Felt like I took my 963.37 and threw it down the toilet.

    Do not stay at Lifestyles

We did not get the rooms that we booked through AFVC. We booked a suite and a four person hotel room. They gave us two 2 person hotel rooms. They did move one room into a two bed hotel room on the second night, but we never did get the suite. The suite was supposed to have a sitting area with a pullout sofa table, etc., and a private bedroom. The rooms smelled of mildew, and there was mold in multiple places in the room. I understand this is a humid environment but the AC was running and there are ways to clean mold. Also hinges were rusty. The sliding glass door for the patio would not open properly. We had to open it from the reverse side (not the handle side), lifting the entire glass out of the frame to get out on the patio. This created a dangerous situation and my husband almost smashed his fingers. The ceiling fan did not work, but it was full of filth, so I’m glad that wasn’t spinning around throwing dirt on our faces. The toilet seat lid was plastic and every time you sat down the lid would close so you literally had to use one hand to keep it open while you went to the bathroom every single time. Six of the seven nights we had cold water for showers. Neither of our room phones worked so every single time we needed new towels, a blanket or to tell them about the cold water, we had to walk half a mile up to the front desk. This would be fine if it was three or four trips for the whole vacation, but literally it was three or four trips every single day. We repetitively told them of all of these problems and although they were very nice, they never fixed any of it. We asked for compensation because this is not what we paid for or agreed upon. Finally on the very last day, they agreed to pay our return transport to the airport, which was $55. This was a minor drop in the bucket for the amount that we paid for these rooms and did not get what we expected. Speaking with multiple other families in the resort, every single person we talked to experienced similar situations. On the first morning, they told us they were going to take us on a “welcome tour” to show us all of the facilities, pools, restaurants, bars, etc., that we could use. This turned into a three hour tour timeshare sales pitch. They only showed us the areas we could use if we gave them a $30,000 deposit that day. Again, multiple other families and couples were duped into this “tour”. We never agreed to give up half of our first day of vacation-scam

    Never Again

The rooms at this resort were terrible. We changed rooms twice and the 3rd room still had issues. Rm 1 had condensation on floors and walls and our things got damp, rm 2 had the door missing on the water closet/toilet and in rm 3 we saw a couple of roaches. No hot water in any rms except the firs one so cold showers for a week. Hairs all over the bathroom area floor. Resort itself was beautiful and food was delicious. Never going again though!
