Awesome Trip!!

We booked this as a mother daughter trip because the price was untouchable to go to an island we had not been to yet as we are big cruisers. This was our first all inclusive. After reading some of the reviews we were a little nervous for what to expect but everyone said the beach was beautiful and that is what we were going for anyways, not to sit in a hotel room. Rooms: We did not see anything wrong with the hotel. Yes, the rooms were small, we just got a Super Saver, but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was enough for us to sleep and shower in as that is all we do on vacation. Daily activities: We sat by the pool everyday and got involved in all the activities with the entertainment staff. They were all awesome and pride themselves on "5 Star Service at a 3 Star Resort." They have nightly shows with bands, DJs, dancers and Karaoke. I will say entertainment ends a little early(10:30-11), but you can stay around the bar until 12:30 when they close. We didn't mind this as we liked to get up early anyways to go to the pool, but if you are looking for extreme nightlife, I would say you would be a little disappointed. Food: We were able to make reservations with no problem for every night we were there (besides the 1st since the reservations are for the next day). Reservations are taken for the restaurants between 9-5. There was a little line right at 9 but it went down quickly once reservations started. We did get there right at 9 as we would go to the breakfast buffet around 8:30 then make reservations on our way to the pool. We tried each al la carte at least once. We didn't care for the Italian. It was okay, but we are used to really good Italian in New Haven so we did that one night and did not go back. Italian is also now a buffet which I believe is the main buffet for the Vera Club (Italian travelers have their own section of the resort). Both Mexican and Seafood you order off a menu ( 3 Course Meal). We enjoyed both of those, Our first night there was a BBQ on the beach which was very good. For breakfast, the buffet has normal breakfast food with a cook to order egg station. Lunch, we ate mostly at the grill by the pool and ventured over to the lunch buffet one day, but we liked the grill better. I will suggest, if you want to go to the nightly entertainment (normally has a band playing for a few hours then "ShowTime" for a half hour at 8:30), make your dinner reservations early or go to buffet on your own time. Overall: We had mixed expectations due to reviews on here but we enjoyed our stay. The beach is beautiful, the staff are all so friendly, and even the locals are extremely nice. We did some shopping right on the beach for souvenirs (gift shop is extremely overpriced). We did go off the resort on Sunday to go to Shirley Heights, and it was pretty, but a very crowded space, with some food, drinks and a steel band and a few vendors. I wouldn't go back there but it was nice to see. We felt very safe the entire time and really enjoyed our stay! One piece of advice I picked up on here was to bring a reusable water bottle which we did and refilled as there were water coolers everywhere (they charge for bottles of water). The water is fine to drink and we did not have a problem finding coolers. Drinks were also good (try the humming bird if you like frozen cocktails). Also, although it is all inclusive, remember that does not include tips so be sure to bring small bills (USD is excepted everywhere just make sure it is not ripped) to tip servers, cooks, bartenders, maids, etc..

Everything you need to know !!

Let me start by saying when the STAFF says "3 star resort, but 5 star service" they mean it. We were a group of 8 that met and stayed with 2 more people the entire ten days. We are all age 25-30 so keep that in mind when reading my review because 95% of the resort was an older crowd so I am sure its a completely different experience for them. I read all the reviews before arriving and I think some are spot on, others not so much. We went may 3rd-12th and I must warn you it rained every single day. Not all day long but spurts of HARD rain. THE BEACH IS PERFECT****. White sand, clear water..No need for water shoes. There were plenty of chairs available everyday. Maybe we went on a slow week. There are a bunch of vendors on the beach selling souvenirs in huts and also selling excursions. We booked through Keith. He was genuine and so much cheaper than the resort. He was a really great guy and helped us out a lot. We did something off the resort almost everyday. Id definitely recommend using him. The souvenirs are also a lot cheaper on the beach. They also have spots in the "city" to get souvenirs that you can talk down pricing. BARS: There are 3 bars. The pool bar, the "long bar" by the buffet and then one bar by mexican restaurant. There is also a bar by the veraclub but thats a walk down the beach so we never went there. Bars opened at 10:30am and then closed around 12 I believe? So in our opinion the bars were hit or miss. They all made drinks completely different. Some were really strong, others you weren't sure if there was alcohol. Some of the bartenders were very personable and some dont even say hello. My friends and I would go on a hunt to find Denzil and Ashley (BEST Bartenders) because they were the only ones who made our drinks the way we all wanted. We even tried telling other bartenders how to do it and it just wasnt the same. Denzil and ashley were also very helpful when we had questions about the resort or anything on the island in general. Bring your own cup and they will fill it with whatever you like. A yeti was perfect because any frozen drink you get melts in a minute. Same as anywhere, all the sugary, frozen drinks make you sick after drinking in the sun all day. Also, 3 days they ran out of tequila. Everywhere. The liquor was bottom shelf, sometimes hard to drink. But all of this comes with all inclusive. Also weird but they only had one bathroom by the pool, buffet and bars. ENTERTAINMENT: So the entertainment by the pool really started around 11/11:30. They would do water aerobics, beach/pool volleyball, they had jewelry making, drunk trivia, Soccer, beer pong, chugging competitions. They had different stuff all day long. And Deshawn, ann-marie and furlisha kept everyone involved all day long. It was the BEST entertainment staff ive seen and ive been to about 15 resorts. The nightly entertainment we actually saw was carnival night, bands, steel drums, karaoke, bon fires, fire dancers, limbo, and a white party. There was something every night around 8:30. The same people did the nightly entertainment. I'm positive they are the reason people would return to this resort. And the beach of course. There was no real night life at the resort though. No clubs or like late night party. Everything died down after the 8:30 show. So we left the resort every night after the show to continue partying. English harbour seemed to be the place to go to party. Some bars were open until 3-4am. We went to abras both saturday nights we were there and it was two totally different experiences. The first saturday was more locals and their music, the second saturday was americans and american music. Both times were really fun. We went to JRs on tuesday and it was $2 drinks. The music was SO good. Really good vibes there. Also, smokin aces which is a hookah lounge had awesome music, cheap drinks, inside in the AC but we were the only people there and you had to pay to get in, cheap but still for what? Also, the hookah was really bad. We went to a few other bars that were really cool but I can not remember the names. FOOD: I have mixed reviews on the food. I did not go hungry but it was nothing like any of the all inclusive resorts ive been too before. Breakfast was the exact same every day. Runny, watery eggs, over cooked sausage links, bacon that was not cooked AT ALL, an omelette station with eggs, cheese, ham, peppers, onions. They also had french toast that my friends said was good but I did not try it looked way too soggy for me. Then there was always fruit at the buffet for every meal and bread. Breakfast buffet ended at 10. Lunch buffet started at 12 and went only until 2. We only went there two out of the 10 days. It was very bland and the same. We ate most of our lunches at the grill by the pool. They were open 12-5. They had burgers, hot dogs, jerk chicken, veggie burgers, ham and cheese sandwiches, fries, and salad. We went off the resort a few times for lunch to try something new and have real food. We ate at castaways and crows nest i think it was called. Both are right next to the resort you can walk down the beach or take the road. Then theres dinner. So as stated in other reviews there are 3 restaurants(Mexican, Italian, seafood) and the buffet. Open 6-10. You need to wait online at the Mexican restaurant at 9am the day before to make a reservation anywhere for the following day or you eat at the buffet. There is no dress code but must wear shoes and a cover up in all restaurants and buffet. We ate mexican twice, italian twice and seafood once. Italian was not italian at all. It was another buffet. The first night they had curry, potatoes, rice, fried fish, fish balls, some type of chicken and ribs being made outside. They have a window where you can ask for pasta which you can also get at the regular buffet. The second time we went it was a little different. Salad and bread stations are the same, window for pasta, broccoli, potatoes, rice and pizza. Mexican was my favorite. They start you with chips, salsa, guac, sour cream. Then you pick an appetizer, entree and dessert. We got all different things between both times and all of it was amazing. Seafood took us 2.5 hours from when we sat to getting dessert. I felt like that wasted a lot of time. Also, anywhere we went and asked for lobster (including lydias seafood) they told us it was not in season. Total let down after reading the reviews about how good it was. We went to the supermarket right outside the resort for water, soda, gatorade and snacks. Then we would just ask for ice at the bar and fill it with whatever we wanted. ROOMS: First of all, you HAVE to wait until i believe 3pm to get a room. So we were all not really prepared to be waiting around for 3 hours in the sun. So we had 4 different rooms right next to each other in Barthelomy? We liked this because we did not need a golf cart to get to our rooms or walk far. We were right by the lobby and everything. We were all on the 4th floor and there is NO elevator !!!!!!! So carrying 60 pounds of luggage when its 90 degrees up 8 flights of stairs wasnt how we wanted to start the trip per say. My room and one two down had AC, the other two AC did not work at all. The rooms are so small you can basically just fit your luggage but we did not care about that. It was strange our rooms were next to each other yet all different. Some of us had bibles, blow dryers, shelves, an ice bucket, a working TV then others did not. None have a fridge though*****Also, most of our bathroom doors were broken. But the room is last of my concerns on vacation. It was clean for the most part and had a working shower. All i need. We did not get a safe and nothing was touched in any room. Also, we did not buy wifi. Its free in the lobby which worked great but anywhere else it was very spotty but we hardly used our phones so we did not care. POOL: Number one.. i think we went on a slower week because the pools were almost empty all of the time. Plenty of chairs. They also give you beach towels. No need to bring. There are two pools. One is a quiet pool which I believe was 7 feet deep? We did not go to this pool. The other pool has the bar right there. There is a swim up bar with 3 stools but because the top of the bar stays so busy they rarely come down to the swim up bar to serve you. The pool can use a good cleaning but we had no issues. EXCURSIONS:So we did jet skiing from keith on the beach $20/ person. We did shirley heights sunday. $10 to enter and then $20/ person for the ride to and from the resort. So its basically a look out point. Its pretty, has a cheap bar, really great food, they had steel drums playing but after about an hour we were over it. Its nice to take a pic and have an actual drink but we didnt think it lived up to the hype. Plus it was raining. Monday was their labor day so we went to some concert thing. Tuesday we went on a catamaran which was 8am to 4pm. We were told it would be like a booze cruise but it wasnt. The "open bar" was rum punch or beer. Lunch was really good on the boat. They drove us to a little island but the beach at our resort was much better. Also, we road through 25 minutes of what they called the roller coaster... I actually threw up from it. But we sat inside because we did not know any better. You could hardly hear the music. I think it was supposed to be more of a relaxing day out on the boat. Then we went to the floating obstacle course which was very close to our resort but keith drove us. I believe it was like $20? That was something very different and I would recommend. We also went to stingray city. It was very far but worth it. They drive you to a boat, you take the boat into the water, play with and feed stingrays, go back.. you can eat or drink, buy souvenirs then head home. OVERALL, I would go back.

Good for the price

Check in was awful. Got to the resort before 1.00 and didn’t get our room until after 5.00pm after complaining to the manager. Once we got the room, vacation was good. Beach was great and the workers were awesome.

The money I paid for vacation wasn’t worth it

I purchased my vacation through cheap Caribbean. The pictures I saw of starfish Jolly beach resort looked nice. So I looked at the reviews and ppl was saying the rooms was small so I called cheap Caribbean back and asked for a upgrade. I got it no problem. We started our vacation April 24 and we get to the hotel. Our room is not what we expected. It’s not like a average hotel. Our doorknob was loose you could giggle it and the a/c was dripping water on the water from the ceiling. On the third day the a/c broke and left a puddle of water on the floor. We had to put towels on the floor to catch the water. The guy did come to fix it. It worked and broke again. You need the a/c cause they have screens over the window in the bathroom and the heat comes in. The window looks like bricks with the hole in it and the screen covers the hole. The bugs fly in and there’s dead bugs on the sink and the shower area is tight. (No glass)The mattress was hard and the tv needed updated. They have three restaurants you can choice from seafood, Italian and Mexican food. The property is big. We had to walk a little ways to get to the Italian restaurant. The walk was okay. Not a problem. But we noticed on that side the hotel rooms was much better and bigger then our side. They also have a buffet too eat at. The beach is beautiful and the pool needs to be fixed up. The bottom of the pool have some patches. The food and staff was good. If you sit outside with your food you have to make sure the birds don’t take your food. Never leave your food unattended if so cover it up. But overall we did enjoy the weather, beach and the food. This is the first time we ever complained about our vacation through cheap Caribbean.
