My Stay at the InterContinental
We arrived the first night and there was an issue with our room (leaky pipe). In the morning we mentioned it to the front desk and they switched rooms to an equivalent room. They made the issue right.
The service was good from each hotel employee.
The food and drink was on the high side but there are a lot of other good dining options nearby or a short Uber ride away.
Stayed at the Intercontinental for 5 nights in early December. We were celebrating our 50th birthdays and wanted to support the economy of Puerto Rico. So happy we did! San Juan is a quick 3.5 hour direct flight from Boston. My husband is an IHG reward member from business travel and the lovely ladies at the desk upgraded us to an ocean view room. Our room was modern and clean and comfortable. The pool was beautiful but a bit too cold. Hot tub was wonderful. All of the staff members were polite and super friendly. We walked the beautiful beach every day and mostly walked to local restaurants due to a limited budget. Easy to Uber to Old San Juan, the airport, etc. The highlight of our vacation was the Hidden Waterfall Tour with "Jerry's Adventures". Hector was amazing!!!! We can't wait to visit PR again and would definitely recommend the Intercontinental!
This was an excellent package from Cheap Caribbean! Airfare from NY and a 3 night stay at the Intercontinental downtown San Juan with insurance and car service to and from the airport for $1,200 was the perfect price for a quick getaway. Besides the convenience of the car service, it was a bit pricey and I would probably use Uber on my next trip. The food was awesome, service was top notch. I would absolutely book with Cheap Caribbean in the future!
The hotel called itself giving me an upgrade to an ocean front room. This room was an accessible room for handicapped persons. The room's ventilation system was not operating, therefore, the bathroom stayed damp and water did not evaporate. The bathroom sink was filthy around the facets. The bathroom floor was dirty. I took a floor towel and had to wipe it clean. Disgusting. The bed felt as if the sheets were still wet. The room was dirty. Apparently, a glass broke and there were still shards on the floor. I have stayed at this hotel many times and was surprised at this situation. I would, however, lodge here again.

As a USA permanent resident,do I need a visa to go to Puerto Rico?11 answers
8 years, 97 months ago
Zemman
If you are not a US citizen, you should double check with the airline you're traveling with to determine what documentation you'll need to enter and exit Puerto Rico, as this can vary depending on your citizenship.
KateCC
No you don't, it's not an actual state but is considered U.S. property.
jewels98
Puerto Rico is considered a USA domestic flight, boarding pass and ID required no visa or passport necessary.
SteveT
No. We were told to bring a passport or official birth certificate, but the airport security only asked for a picture Government issued I.D., like other US destinations.
RonL
no
Cindy52
No, Puerto Rico is part of America
summer2011
No, you don't.
Texasnative
no. it is part of the United States.
coquie
Nope, you won't need a visa to PR because PR is a commonwealth of the US. Do bring your permanent resident card just in case.
zm101806
You do not need a passport or Visa. However, you need two forms of identification and one needs to be a government issued photo ID like a drivers license.
LarryL
no you don't only a picture ID driver's license or some type of government issued ID. Puerto Rico is actually on US territory.

is the InterContinential in Puerto Rico an all inclusive hotel?11 answers
7 years, 96 months ago
Vaness
The Intercontinental in San Juan is not an all-inclusive resort - there actually aren't any all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Rico. There are a number of restaurants and bars on the property but they are not included in your package.
JenCC
no it's not, there are not many all inclusive resorts in San Juan
jewels98
No, some packages through 3rd party agents may include food and beverage resort credits but no all-inclusive available.
SteveT
No, But you may get a deal which includes free breakfast or hotel credit. we got $200 credit per room for 4nights stay (just returned on Saturday and LOVED IT). Someone next to us at check-in had breakfast included with their reservation.
Food is easily found, however. Two outdoor eateries and four inside the hotel alone. Fast food and good local food all within walking distance.
There were live singers/music combos on the Friday night, but not the mid-week nights we were there.
We had two 19-year-olds with us. The staff is very friendly, and they had a lot of fun.
There are many hotels again within walking distance, so you can always check out the nightlife there, too.
wannagobacksoon
No, but we did receive vouchers good at several of the restaurtants and room service by booking through Cheap Caribbean.
BookMarkNYC
No it is not all inclusive. Dining and drinks are pricey. Although there are credits available for multi night bookings. These credits range from $100-$200 per room depending on how many nights you are staying.

What is the weather like the last week of august5 answers

The average temp for August is 80-75 degrees with an average of 5.2 inches of rain.
DanielleCC
the hurricane Irene just hit puertorico a day before we got there.
coquie
We went mid October and it was beautiful weather. It's off season so it was a ghost town but we had a blast!
I personally would not go the end of August & September because it's hurricane season and PR does get hit.
Miller39
August and September are considered hurricane season in the islands. Stay away!
Arriaga
Pretty nice. Warm (80s) and humid. Beware that this is in/around hurricane season and it can rain and be windy at times (nothing extreme but may effect tours, etc..)

what is the fee for guest parking in the hotel.9 answers
7 years, 89 months ago
joe
Hi Joe,
Currently, the resort charges $20.00 plus tax per day for parking., prices are subject to change.
ccsusan1
We did not have a car so I can't answr that question. Due to the cheapness of the buses, not sure why you would want a car.
PJRL
$25 valet parking, $20 self park
pat1
If you used Valet parking, the fee ran about $80. per day. Self parking may be less but I would think, still fairly expensive.
LarryL
$25. per day. Can park in city parking 2 blocks away by the hour and would add up to the same if you stay the 24 hours straight.
Vero
when we were there end of December it was $25 per day
laxguy21
I overheard the concierge tell a guest it was $29 per night but that could change depending upon time of year
PickyTraveller
There is guest parking across the street from the hotel. I believe it was $20 per day. They also have valet parking, but as we didn't rent a car, I'm not sure about the cost for that.
Kanga
We did not rent a car and glad we did not bother. The guest parking lot across the street from the hotel is $20/night. There are plenty of taxis and local bus to Old San Juan 75 cents (coin only) is an interesting hour ride. The Intercontinental is only 10 minute ride from the airport...we pre-paid for the service to pick us up and return us to the airport....very nice.
JoeDonna
No. $20 per day

What does "air included" on the package refer to?5 answers
I liv on the west coast, so would I need to pay for a flight from here to the east coast location?
7 years, 89 months ago
Blondie
You are able to book air from the west coast for an additional cost than the package's advertised price.
MariaCC
When you in the process of the reservation it will have a place where it asks you for the airport you would leaving from, depending on that information it can change the price.
PJRL
Usually, the air included packages assume flights out of Florida. The is an additonal charge for flights from all other locations. For instance, flights from Hartford, CT added $200 to the package. You can book on line but if this is your first CC experience, I would suggest you call them. The agents are extremely helpful.
Enjoy.
Larry
LarryL
It means that your price includes your air flight tickets when booking with cheapcarribean.com your cost includes hotel and you airline tickeys thats why I love them.
Traveldiva405
I would assume when you do your online and enter the starting destination, it will calculate the airfare into the price. Sure it will be more than our approx. $900 for 2 round trip from PA.

We just returned on 12/22. There were showers every day but short. The temp. was about 80 degrees during the day and partly sunny. It was pleasant and the showers didn't interfer with our enjoyment. You might check weather.com for the averages for the time of your interest.

It seems to rain, without warning every day. But it only lasts a few minutes and they clears up. Sometimes there will be a brief shower while the sun is shining. After awhile you don't even run for cover.

We didn't go clubbing. We are gamblers and The Ritz-Carlton and El San Juan are 24 hrs ...InterContinental stayed open til 4am. When we were out on the Isle Verde Blvd in the wee hours there were others still walking to or from other places. There were young and old even at 3 and 4 in the morning. Many of them were dressed up and seemed to have been partying somewhere. Old San Juan was empty at that hour...........It looked like a ghost town .....we couldn't find a taxi on the street down by cruise ship port and Sheraton casino hotel. We had to go back in the casino and have them call us a taxi after searching for one for over 15 minutes.

Small Casino at hotel and bigger one next door at the El San Juan Hotel & Casino. The band only plays on the weekends and the night club next door at the El San Juan is also only open Thursday-Saturday or Sunday nights. That is it for walking distance!

what is the weather like in june?6 answers

The weather is warm in June mid to high eighties. It is the beginning of the rainy season so rain showers are very common. It is early in the hurricane season so hurricanes are not as common during June as they are later in the season.
ccsusan1
It was high 80'sand somewhat humid just last week so if that is any indication it is probably safe to assume upper 90s plus some in June.
FutureYearlyVacationer
87 hot enough to tan no humidity with a nice breeze. rains everyday around 4pm for 30 min then its nice again

KrisNS
We ate at Ruth Chris and had the surf and Turf which included filet mignon and lobster it was $54 but well worth it!!
Traveldiva405
The hotel restaurants were expensive. Breakfast was $27 each. However you could walk across the street and have any selection of restaurant you want from Burger King to a very nice diner. Food was no problem.
wedge
The food at the hotel is expensive. Ruth Chris has great steaks but plan on around $45 per person not including drinks. Sandwiches were good at the other restaurants and around $15. Food is a bit less expensive outside of the hotel. You can find good authentic Puerto Rican and even fast food chains within walking distance.
LuckeyDW
Food costs at the hotel are pretty expensive and the hotel is close walking distance to many great local restaurants of all types, worth the short walk to authentic PR cuisine
jessira054
We found the hotel food very expensive. Breakfast buffet at the Italian restaurant was $28/pp. The Mediterranean beach bar was pricey but not too bad. Burger/fries $15, Pizza for 2 $17, drinks very expensive at the hotel $10-17. Local restaurants across the street in the shopping centers more like pricing at home. Coffee is per small cup and your breakfast might be $3, but a glass of OJ is $2.50. Most shocking is you cannot find a fruit salad, something I thought would be everywhere and cheap. Local supermarket a block away to stock up on fruit, snacks, alcohol, beer, wine and mixers.....Oh, bottle of water in room $8, you might want to get water at the market too! Enjoy!
JoeDonna
There's a small Puerto Rican restaurant near the hotel called Mi Casita. You can expect to pay as little as $3.99 per meal - $15 for their most expensive meals including dinner. If you go to the higher end restaurant you are looking at $15- $50 per entree but in my opinion they were not as taste as Mi Casita

Please be advised that rooms are assigned upon the guests' check in at the resort. Unfortunately, there is no way to guarantee requests such as high floor, bedding, etc. as rooms are assigned based on the resort's current availability.

You can request it. But, be sure to ask for Ocean View!!

All resort fees and taxes are included in our packages pricing.
CaitlinCC
100 dollar a day deposit which is taken all at once upon arrival and held till you leave.
chasesmommy
I was not asked to pay a resort fee. They did however place a hold on my credit card for $200 which were for incidentals. They release it after a few days
Lizzy927
A daily parking fee if you have a rental.
Suave
There are no additional resort fees. Expect to pay alot of money to eat and drink or do anything outside of sitting at the pool or beach. If you want a cabana at the pool expect to pay, if you want an umbrella on the beach expect to pay. Also if you want to keep track of what you put towards your room ask for a receipt as it is not automatically given to you so that you can keep track of charges.
FutureYearlyVacationer
The Hotel will place a HOLD on your credit card for $100 per night for incidentials.
Jrwwest
We did not encounter any resort fees. I did ask before we got our room keys.

They put a hold on our CC for $400 upon check-in. That never showed up on our card. They slipped a bill under our door check-out morning and there was nothing on there but what we charged to the room (massage, restaurant, bar).
JoeDonna
yes there is a 400 deposit the couple that traveled with us only paid 300 because they told them they couldn't afford the 400 we paid in cash so that we could receive cash back.the deposit you can spend within the hotel so you don't have to use your cash. for instance use the room number to buy drinks food and book excursions and get the remainder at check out.
there are no other fees

Don't worry, they require a card on file and place a 100 dollar hold per day on it.
Suave
You can unless you would like to charge them to your room, but in case of the breakfast specials you must charge to your room in order to receive you discount which ours was 50%. We used cash for drinks and all other food and meals.
johnbuckley
Yes, there is no issue with paying cash. The hotel does put a $500 hold on your card, but it was promptly refunded after checkout.
kkshoes
No u have to use a credit card.
tray0711
When I checked in they asked fory credit hard and charged $500 for incidentals. They failed to advise me of this charge. But when I went to ask the clerk was very kind in explaining that the charge is $100 per day and they charge five days in advance (i was staying for 8 days). Not sure if they take cash though. I didn't see anyone paying with cash so I don't hink they do but it's as easy as making a call to the hotel and asking.
Arriaga
Yes, I assume you mean tipping. $1 bag, more if they bring to your room. Standard tipping with restaurants or you can add to your CC or room bill.
JoeDonna
Yes , do this so you don't end up in the same situation as myself waiting for a release two weeks after you've checked out. It's $100 per night or if you have more than 6 nights it's $500
Smb2018
The hotel requires a $100 hold per night on a card at the time of check in. Incidentals charges will be taken from that card at checkout.
JoselineR
From my experience, no, you will need to use a card to have on file for incidentals while you are staying. When you go to checkout, any charges that were made to your room will then be charged to your card and granted there were no issues, you will not be charged for the incidental fees. I believe it was $100/day.

Old San Juan10 answers
How far is the resort from Old San Juan and what is the best/cheapest way to get there?
4 years, 56 months ago
Lynne
About 10-15 minutes in no traffic. Can be traffic jams during peak hours. We took a taxi, from the Intercontental it cost $21 plus tip each way. We could have rented a car, but there's too much traffic in OSJ. There, you can walk everywhere, or use the free trams.
CTOceanLover
Depending on traffic it can take as little as 15 minutes or as long as 40 minutes to get to Old San Juan. We suggest taking a taxi as it is affordable.
SamCC
About a 15 minute taxi ride - but the cheapest way to go is the local bus. The bus stop is right outside the hotel . It costs 75 cents one way compared to $25 in a taxi. The bus will take longer too maybe 30 -45 mins. You get to ride with the locals and see the area...
Once in old San Juan there are free trollies that take you all over the old section - hop on and off no charge - good for an orientation! Try to get the open air one if it is a nice day. Go to the castle and fort - not to be missed for the view! It would be fun to take a kite and a picnic!
luv2Xplor
Old San Juan is 20 minutes away. The best way to get there is by taxi $21 each way. You can take a bus there much cheaper but takes longer.
RocketTed
It is about half-hour from hotel to Old San Juan by public transportation. A bus stops on the avenue at the hotel entrance and runs a direct route.
There is a terminal at the base of Old San Juan where return service can be boarded.
MisterG
10 minute ride. Flat $17 taxi fare each way
Moe1
It's about a 10 min drive. They offer tour buses the take you over there but that runs about $70 per person you can take an Uber for about $11 but you have to meet them somewhere outside of the hotel bc they are not allowed to pick you up in front. Taxi drivers won't let them in. You can also use a taxi but chances are they are going to charge you twice the price hey should and will tell you they only accept cash. We used taxi once for the same trip Uber did and they charged us $18 and with uber was only $11

It is only a few miles to Old San Juan and the cheapest way I found to get there was Uber. There is some push back from cab drivers toward Uber though, so the drivers cannot pick you up directly at a hotel, you might have to walk across the street to get your ride.
BeachBum2151
We took a uber to old San Juan it was 4 of us cost $3 each. It was about 15-20 from intercontinental resort.
KrisNichole
It took me about 45 minutes due to traffic. I believe on avg 20 mins. I took Uber $18

Do you have a casino5 answers
4 years, 55 months ago
New York
Yes there is a small casino on site (become a member for free and can get cash from the cashier using a credit/bank card. Also perks when using the card). Had roulette, poker, high stakes games, black jack, about 75 slot machines.
CTOceanLover
They do and there are other hotels nearby that do aswell.
luv2Xplor
There is a small casino, Yes. However, it has mostly older slots and table games on a limited basis (few tables and frequently no dealers are available to open them for play).
MisterG
No, the casino recently closed down!
Garrdo
Yes but it is a few blocks away.

Price for parking5 answers
How much is the parking
4 years, 55 months ago
Angel
Pricing is subject to change at any time. We suggest contacting the resort or calling us at 1.800.915.2322 for further details.
SamCC
I believe the hotel charges $25/day
luv2Xplor
$20 per day
Thelifeofaiko
I didn't notice how much was charged for parking at the hotel. The lot is across the street. And absolutely every lot for everything cost money to park in. I would avoid renting a car if possible. Taxis and Ubers are easy to get.
Chuckem77
If you valet your car it's $ 25 per day, there's also self parking in which you have access to come and go as you please for only $20 a day

Approximately what are the prices of the food? Is it expensive?5 answers
2 years, 25 months ago
philapa
That depends on if you purchase your meals at the resort or off the resort. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
TimCC
We only had appetizers and the price was a little higher than usual. The wings were $16.99 I believe and the chickens quesadilla were $17.99.
Jaxi
Between $18-$35 per person for basic meals such as hamburger w/fries or chicken tenders or pizza.
Ashle
The restaurants in the hotel are pretty expensive. Ruth Chris has steaks starting at $49. Other places have meals starting around $15-20 per plate. There are however many many options that are affordable and within walking distance, even some open 24 hours.
Chuckem77
In the hotel restaurants it would be about $20 per person to eat. Room service is ridiculous with Raisin Bran setting you back $10 a bowl! But there are several places near the hotel that you can walk to that are more like $10-15 a person.

Hotel Description
InterContinental San Juan : Let Loose on Isla Verde Beach with Sizzling Nightlife
Bored with the same landscape? InterContinental San Juan is your gateway to adventure thanks to its prime location on Isla Verde Beach. This resort situates a beachfront vacation right next to the city's hottest nightlife just 5 minutes away at El San Juan. The AAA, Four-Diamond resort has been renovated, and it's only five minutes from the airport. You'll enjoy lazy beach days, terrific nightlife and unforgettable sights when you visit the InterContinental San Juan.
The stretch of Isla Verde Beach just outside the resort is never crowded,
so you can relax in peace. Jump in the large, lagoon-style pool to cool off and
pick up something from the swim-up bar; sip your pina colada, while admiring
the waterfalls of the cove-like pool as you decide which of the four
restaurants is your next destination. Thick cuts of premium beef make Ruth's
Chris Steak House popular, and the signature fettuccine Alfredo at Alfredo's
Restaurant is absolutely delicious. After dinner, you can take it easy and enjoy live music at the I-Bar in
the main lobby and enjoy the live music. Or you can get dressed up and head to one of the many trendy clubs nearby. A quick 5-minute walk will take you to El San Juan - one of the hottest places to see and be seen in San Juan's sizzling nightlife.
Adventuring can be hard work, and the resort's spa has a Caribbean wrap that
smooths out rough skin with natural minerals and vitamins, so you head to bed
relaxed. For a room with an outstanding view, we choose the Deluxe Ocean View;
it comes with a great balcony for watching the hypnotic Caribbean waves. Want
to scout out your next sightseeing opportunity? The higher-level Laguna Rooms
overlook the bustling city. There's so much to see in San Juan, you'll want to
stay a little longer to explore it all.
This hotel is NOT an all-inclusive. Food and drink must be purchased
separately.
Unless otherwise specified, all services are available for an additional charge.
