Stunning resort with hidden costs and unexpected challenges
We traveled to the Lindo with a large group to celebrate several 50th birthdays. Based on the reviews and traveler photos, the resort looked beautiful and promising, so we were excited to try it. The Not-So-Great Our arrival was rocky. After checking in at the clean, air-conditioned reception area, we were told our room wasn’t ready. Three hours later, still traveling with two tired young kids, the room was still not ready. Eventually, we were placed in Building 55 on the ground floor—even though we had specifically requested Building 50 or 51 on an upper floor. The moment we walked in, we were hit with a strong smell of mold. The room was damp, dark, clearly wheelchair-accessible, and significantly smaller than what we booked. It was simply not acceptable. When we returned to the lobby to request a new room, we were told nothing else was available. Only after an hour of waiting, escalating our concerns, and magically a room in Building 51 (top floor, exactly what we requested initially) appeared—but only if we paid to “upgrade.” This same tactic happened to others in our group as well. It genuinely felt like they place you in the worst available room and push upgrades to make more money. Exhausted and with cranky kids, we reluctantly paid the fee just so we could settle in. The blue-suited staff—be prepared. They are extremely persistent and will approach you constantly to sell you timeshare-style presentations. We had to firmly ignore them throughout the entire stay. The beach is beautiful, but the wind and waves were intense all week. Not ideal for swimming or snorkeling. The roaming beach vendors were also very pushy—no matter how many times you said no, they returned repeatedly. The water slides were fun but surprisingly rough, and a few people in our group ended up hurt. The lazy river hardly moves unless you push yourself along, and there were no tubes available because guests tend to take them to other pools or even the beach. We also had to visit the on-site doctor for a quick check of my daughter’s sore throat. We were shocked to learn that medical consultations are not included in the “all-inclusive” package. The cost was $200 USD just for the consultation—not including any prescriptions. We travel often and have never encountered something like this. The resort also has multiple hidden fees you are not warned about, including additional charges at checkout like environmental fees. Avoid the sommelier unless you want surprises on your bill. He offered us a friendly recommendation at dinner, never mentioned pricing, and brought a bottle that cost $135 USD. No wine list, no explanation—just another unexpected charge. A surprising downside was the number of coaties around the resort. While seeing flamingos and peacocks was lovely, the coaties were overly bold. Two people were bitten during our stay, they rummaged through beach bags, and one guest even had their bag stolen by one. This issue is barely addressed by the resort. Room service was another disappointment—food arrived cold, either burnt or soggy, and took far too long. The Good The resort itself is stunning. Everything is modern, clean, and beautifully maintained. The lobby and shared spaces smell amazing. Housekeeping, bar staff, gardeners, and other workers clearly work incredibly hard, and we appreciated them greatly. Washrooms were always clean and well stocked, bars were efficient, and the pools—although cold due to the weather—were cleaned daily. The food overall was good, and there was always something to eat. The steakhouse was excellent, and the à la cartes were the best meals we had. The beach was lovely and clean, though chairs are claimed early in the morning. Unfortunately, the waves were too intense to swim all week, and even the men in our group got seasick on a fishing charter due to the rough waters. Overall Mexico in general has changed over the last 5 years—constant tipping expectations and hidden fees seem to be the new norm. Despite everything, the resort is beautiful, and yes, I would consider returning. But travelers should go in with open eyes, be prepared for extra charges, and advocate for themselves when it comes to room assignments and upselling.

Amazing trip
Absolutely amazing trip. Love this resort, it’s our 4th trip back. Bernardo and Lilibeth are absolutely amazing housekeepers. Pablo and Filberto are the absolute best bartenders. These 4 people alone make the trip worth it.

Only one star because ZERO isn't an option
Way too noisy, nowhere you can escape. Even if you don't want to participate in their games you still have to hear them. Booking restaurants is a farce, for example we could only get either 6.15 or 9pm for dinner even though the restaurants were pretty empty. We never arrived and were seated immediately, always a wait (we were told one time it was because we were 6 minutes early)! The restaurant was empty all evening. Poor motivation and organisation of staff and managers hiding from contact with guests. Entertainment, excluding the children's shows, was taken to a new low level. No quiet or tranquil ambience bar. Full on Karaoke or other loud entertainment. Worst of all a manager (Oiole) agreed to contact us by our 3rd day to sort some problems and didn't contact us until after a further complaint a week later. Room shower drain was blocked but not fixed, we reported it but still blocked 5 days later.
