    Won’t Be Going Back

TLDR: This hotel was old and dirty. They try to sell you future vacation packages for the next 30 years. Won’t be going back. This is not a paid review and this trip was not provided to us as a timeshare promotion or any other promotion. Forgive me, my review is a little lengthy. Arrived at Iberostar selection Rose hall suites. Found out that we booked a room with a double bed and not a King Size. That was our fault. For a fee, Cora upgraded our room to an Ocean View. Upon walking into the room, a handyman was in there and he was painting. What kind of upgrade was this? We immediately called the front desk and Cora worked to get us another room. In the meantime, we had told the bellhop that our room was ready and they tagged our bags. We waited 30 minutes to get our bags. My husband ended up just going down there and getting the bags. The people outside in the front of the hotel were the most useless people we encountered at this hotel. We were then reached out to by Kerena who was our concierge. She was very nice but she invited us to a breakfast the next day where we thought we’d be told about the benefits of the hotel and was told we could leave this breakfast at anytime. Iberostar, your “sales pitch” model is trash. We came to this place to have a vacation. They take you to breakfast at the newer of the Iberostar properties and have breakfast, take you on a tour, then want you to put a down payment so you can “save” on future vacations. And the part of leaving the presentation any time you want?? Lies. The breakfast was to last 90 minutes. 3 hours later, we told them we weren’t interested and were subjected to 3 more people trying to close the deal. We spent three hours of our well deserved vacation being subjected to this. As a thank you for our time, they gave us tickets to the Mobay Lounge at the airport but we get that free with our credit card anyway. The hotel needed a serious upgrade. The bathtub looked so dirty even though I’m sure it was clean I guess. I couldn’t bring myself to get in it. The shower was no better. They didn’t even remove the toiletries such as the body gel, shampoo and conditioner, to clean under them in the shower.. the shower looked dirty too. The newer property, JOIA's bathroom looked the same way. Guess Iberostar is going for the dirty, rustic look. Cracks and patches could be seen all through the property. The staff we encountered were really nice. Shaneke, in the main buffet hall was great. Alston, who served us drinks in the lobby was great and Tannia in guest services was great. Getting a cabana was great to secure as we didn’t come out early enough to get chairs in the shade. Cabanas are for a fee and it’s yours all day. Ok, next item. The uniforms!! As a guest, I was extremely uncomfortable watching the female staff in hot weather wearing stockings as a part of the uniform. They looked so hot and made me hot just looking at them. Why couldn't they wear knee length shorts and a polo shirt? The buffet hall was nice. You had to wait to be seated which I didn't understand but ok. The Jamaican Restaraunt by the Grand Waves Iberostar hotel was excellent. Brittanya was a most gracious waitress and the chef was great. The oxtail, curry goat, escovitch fish and festival were sooo good. The gym was pretty comprehensive. I took advantage of it every day. I was truly impressed with the amount of equipment and classes they had. The machines need a little more room in between each other. I hurt my knee walking in between them. The coffee cafe was great too. The hot caramel macchiatos were great! Even though I thoroughly encountered some beautiful people there, I probably won't visit another Iberostar property. This resort had cracks and patches all over. I truly expected more because it held the IHG brand.

    Welcome Home!!!

The staff at The Suites (especially The Bellman, Trevaughn), the tour guides, the drivers, the Amstar agents, and the guests made it an enjoyable experience. There was a variety of food to eat at The Suites, such as a buffet restaurant, a steak restaurant, an Italian restaurant, and an Asian restaurant. The rooms were spacious with a seating area and balcony. The mini fridge was stocked with free beverages, and there was a complimentary large bottle of Jamaican Rum. I truly enjoyed my experience, and can’t wait to return!

    Service Is the Key

The resort is beautiful and the staff was first rate. They really go out of their way to meet all of your needs. We were greeted by the Bellman Trevaughn who gave exceptional service and was able to answer any questions that we had. If you go, you would be so fortunate to encounter him. Our room was beautiful and conveniently located with many options for dining along with the option to participate in activities and dine at the sister resort. Also enjoyed the Motown show and the illusionists.
