Great vacation

We upgraded to the Grand resort and it was well worth it. Excellent service and friendly staff. Highly recommend this resort. We will be returning in the future.

Relaxing vacation however one flaw

We have been to the Iberostar Parasio complex on 5 occasions, previously to the Del Mar and now to the Maya. The room was perfect, we were in building #60 closest to the beach, with its own private pool and next to the El Trapito restauarant. Location could not have been more perfect. Room was always clean with housekeeping there in the morning and then again in the evening. Maria, our day housekeeper was super. Our evening housekeeper (unfortunately we did no know her name) always left out a bottle of water by our bedside and towel on floor next to our bed. We ate at the Seafood, Mexican and Steakhouse Restaurants in the Maya and the El Museo restaurant in the Lindo. Food was great. Evening buffet in the Maya was exceptional with the head chef Giovanni always welcoming you and attune to whatever you may have wanted extra. The waiters in all the restaurants were always most gracious, welcoming and pleasant. Miguel our waiter for breakfast and lunch at the El Tapito restaurant was terrific! The only thing that made the vacation stressful was the NEW BEACH PATROLMAN that apparently was just initiated this month. You cannot leave your beach lounge chair or it will be taken away from you. One of us always had to stay back to make sure someone was there so the BEACH PATROL would not take the chair away from you which meant you all could not walk the beach, go into the ocean or go to get something to eat because then you were minus a chair. And he would take the towels as well. We had our chairs taken away once because we had to go back to the hotel lobby to confirm our return transportation home. To him that was not an excuse as we had both left. Another couple was getting up to go to get something to eat and he saw them (he watched the beach like a hawk) and he told them that they were leaving and they told him they would be back within an hour and he said they were leaving and took their chairs. He told us when we questioned him that we did not pay to use the beach we only paid for a room. Which is incorrect as the resort advertises beach and pool facilities. Why else would you come? I can understand if someone comes out at 6-7am and reserves a chair with their towel and doesn't come back till noon or later but not when you come out, sit there and then get up to walk or eat, that you lose your chair. Don't need that kind of stress on a vacation! We actually had to sneak out to go to eat! I felt guilty like I committed a crime. The resort needs to be a little more lenient in that respect, if not, I may have second thoughts on returning for this reason. I go on vacation to de-stress and not be more stressed out. I get enough of that on my job.

First timer

This was our first time using CheapCaribbean dot-com it was a good deal we enjoyed the rooms the staff were all wonderful and welcoming the beach was beautiful the pools were average and dirty most of the time they needed someone cleaning it every evening since they close the pools at 8 p.m. the pool entertainment was okay they just played the music really loud so if you had seats by the pool your ears were blown out the alcohol drinks tasted like fruit punch even when asking for an added shot they were very lenient on the alcohol it tasted sort of water down the shows they had every night in the theater weren't that great they were all kind of dancing or moving not in time with each other they definitely need more practice excursions as always are way overpriced and this experience was through the hotel and it ended up being an eight-hour day and only one and a half hours in the water the rest was busing and ferry to and from the snorkeling site for $120 per person that was quite expensive for very very little time actually snorkeling food was mediocre at best and we did not like having to plan out our whole week of dinners ahead of time in order to be able to get into any of the restaurants for dinner we were not even told about the Brazilian restaurant and by the time we heard about it which was 4 days into our trip it was completely booked and we could not try that most of the food was lukewarm and had no flavor I would not recommend Iberostar facilities to anyone this is the first and the last time we will use them

Not a 5 Star Hotel

My family of 9 just returned from the Maya. We had been there 3 times before as well as the Iberostar in Cancun and one in Playa del Carmen. Our first two trips I would rate a 5 star for the Maya. This last trip will be my last one to the Maya. The customer service was very poor. We had called twice and notated on our reservation that we needed rooms next to each other. That did not happen. After a long wait we were able to secure 4 rooms in one building but not convenient at all. Reservationist was not very accommodating. It did not appear any consideration was given to our calls or reservation request. In addition, there wasn't anyone staying in the adjoining room for several nights. Unless you have money to hand out, customer service was almost nonexistent. We did find a couple of people to help throughout our stay. Second night we ate at their steak house and it was horrible. Ribs were one big blob of fat, and steaks were horrible for all 9 people. The next night we all ordered room service and it took 2 hours for the food to arrive and it was all COLD!!! My daughter forgot jewelry in her locker on one of her excursions, and once again, the help/assistance just to get information or someone to help us was extremely poor at the Maya. The Amstar and Iberostar representatives were rude and not helpful. The last afternoon, my kids booked an excursion through Amstar, and were never picked up. The Amstar representative put pickup at a different hotel. Again, we FINALLY were able to get one woman from the Iberostar to help make calls. Needless to say it ruined my family's last afternoon/evening. They lost several hours of pool time and missed the excursion all together. Not a good ending to our last night. Overall, I would not recommend the Maya any more as a 5 star. A 3 star is a more realistic rating.. Food was mediocre. Customer service was terrible. Rooms were average. Wait staff at restaurants and maid service were good.

What's to Love

The beachy shores are very wide and deep with soft white sands and bright blue water.

Service is impeccable. It's the reason this resort continues to welcome repeat customers.

Martinis at the Snake Bar are delish.

Each piece of furniture at the resort is a work of art handcrafted with Mayan touches.

What We'd Change

While it's not a polar plunge, you'll definitely find the pools and lazy river a bit cooler than expected. When you need to dry off, let the glorious Mexican sun warm you up!

Why You Should Go

You're a short 30 minutes from the airport. Fruity cocktails are waiting for you.

Lush landscaping with lots of different wildlife like cats, iguanas, cote and deer.
