Will do again
We stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Maya. This hotel was a class act in every respect. Restaurant choices were endless. If you can't find something special to eat, your a dud. Pool spots were beyond endless and very comfortable. We only paid about $3100 , this included everything, including top shelf liquor. And The golf, oh my god the golf! The golf was spectacular. We will start saving to come back next year the moment we get home. Thanks to all the staff, they were very nice!

Fabulous vacation location for families
We have visited Mexico yearly for almost 20 years and found this to be one of the best we have visited. The property is fabulous, the food is magnificent and the staff treats you like family. Rooms are perfect, pools great, specialty restaurants are so inviting. Our first time will NOT be our last time!
Overall we had a great time at this resort. The staff were friendly, food was good though variety of selections could have been better. Pools were nice, lazy river was great and the wave pool was okay too although it was only on for about 10 mins every hour. The beach was good too except when the moss came in. There were 5 resorts in one here and we got golf carts to take us around. We had a great time and would recommend this resort.
First, Cheap Caribbean was GREAT-this review is of the hotel ONLY!
It took way too long to check in--our room wasn't ready at the time of check in so we had to wait & wait. The staff was great but are trained to try to get you to "invest" in being an Iberostar Member--this happened several times during our stay which was annoying since we said no thank you several time. Then, our first day at the beach, the Beach Chair Patrolman told us our group was not allowed to have our chairs in anything but a straight row along the sand & we weren't allowed to get close to the water with our chairs--WHAT?? So my husband & I get back to our room to find a used condom wrapper on the nightstand. Ewwww--gross. My furious husband called the front desk & they immediately sent security to download the ID's of all cards swiped at our room. Turns out, the housekeeping person found it under the bed and forgot to throw it away. ANYWAY--the rest of the trip, after changing rooms, was pleasant, the weather was good & the staff spent a bunch of time trying to make it right--which I applaud! We got flowers one day, champagne another and the hotel manager came to our room to apologize again and let us know that staff member has never had a complaint before in the 3+ years she's been there. They went out of their way to make it right & I really appreciated it. But, there were a couple of other things like trash on the compound that was never cleaned up, broken glass (which I showed someone) never cleaned up, etc. that made this particular property more of a "Meh..." experience. I've stayed at Iberostar properties before and not had anything like this...They just need to reeducate their staff a little and insist they be more conscientious.

How does the book now pay later with deposit work? what is the required deposit fee for a vacation priced around $1400 pp?5 answers
7 years, 95 months ago
kric718
Used it but did not make a difference to me.
NUTNBUTBEACH
With my experience doing book now, pay later, we paid for half our trip up front and the second deposit was taken from my credit card account 7 days prior to leaving for my trip. If the vacation is $1400 per person and you have two people going, the required deposit would be $1400. If it were four people going on the trip, it would be $2800 and so on and so forth.
losiedosie
Per the terms of the deposit program, the airfare, taxes, travel insurance (optional) and the $25 non refundable deposit fee is due at the time a vacation is booked. The amount of the deposit does vary for each package. The remainder of the balance is due 21 days prior to departure and is automatically charged to the credit card on file.
MariaCC
They ask for about 40% down at time of reservation and then the remainder must be paid 3 weeks before departure.
dmdot
It worked out good for us, because we had a few commitments to handle before going, such as 80th birthday for my Mother and Father a week before the trip

The standard room category we does not allow us to book 3 adults and 1 child. You would need to check directly with the resort as we are only able to book the standard room category.
MariaCC
Yes, we stayed in a room with 2 double beds and a pull-out couch.
Spartan10
each person will not have their own bed per se, but you can get a room with 2 double beds and ask for them to put a roll in bed in the sitting room for no additional charge. The double beds are larger, my wife and I slept comfortable on one.

How late are the pools and lazy river open?10 answers
I would to love to go for a swim after dinner or when it is dark and lit up. So i'm wondering if there are any restrictions on how late you can swim?
4 years, 56 months ago
Sam Hafford
from our experience, until about 6:00-7:00. The outside bar areas close then also, but this is not a problem because there are several other bars and many places on the property with food and drinks available.
savvy10
It was out experience that the pools close about 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. for cleaning and do not reopen until the next morning.
savvy10
Usually beech and pools are closed at 06:00 PM. There were no signs saying they are closed or staff saying you cannot use. So it may be possible to use pool after dark.
DHSH
Pools are 8 - 8. No lights or swimming after 8. Lazy river - barely flows and they make you purchase rafts for $15 - $20.
MARS1002
Pools are closed around 6 or 7. not allowed night swim
coolsyoung
It states that the resort likes to close the pools around 8pm for treatments, but we were in the main pool past that (although the wet bar closes). I am sure the wave pool and lazy river closes, but we never went into those pools, so I cannot say.
Ystyle
all the pools are closed at 8pm. The official version is they treat the pools with chemicals after 8pm. I don't think anyone would have a problem if you went for a swim after 8pm, especially in the smaller pools near maya. If anyone say a security guard did say anything, im sure if you slipped them a 5 or 10 dollar bill they would have no problem looking the other way.
srlucas23
The pools close around 6-7, but then all if the night time activities begin. Never a boring moment for anyone of any age.

What is the dining like in terms of what's included in all inclusive and reservations?4 answers
Are all of the restaurants included in the all inclusive price? Or do you have to pay extra for some restaurants?
Can you make reservations in advance prior to your arrival or when you arrive?
2 years, 33 months ago
Pittsburgh
All of the restaurants are included in the all-inclusive price. However, some dining restrictions may apply, for more details on this you would need to discuss this with the resort at the time of check-in. What's included is all meals, including buffet, a la carte restaurants and snack bars. All beverages, including name brand liquors, and taxes and gratuities. As for your reservations, these must be made at the resort during or after check-in.
JeannieCC
The different types of restaurants available are dependant on which resort package you choose. The number of reservations available are dependent on the length of your stay.
We stayed at the Maya resort which provided access to all restaurants which are 'all inclusive'. Snacks, burgers, tacos, etc. are also available throughout the resort - all of which are 'AI'. Drinks are 'AI'.
We stayed for 5 nights, 6 days which allowed reservations at (2) 'a la carte' restaurants 1 week prior to our arrival. Other 'a la carte' restaruants can be reserved with the concierge upon arrival.
MTRipster
More food than you can imagine. There's something for everyone, even the pickiest of people. Suggest as soon as you get there that you make reservations for all of the speciality restaurants. The meals would equate to $100 or more per meal if you had to pay separately. Also food is available from 6am to 10pm.
AllyCat2012
All Resturants are included. No extra charge for anything. Make all your reservations when you check in. They give you a receipt for each night. It also tells you what to wear to each Resturant. No you can't make any arrangements prior to your arrival except reserving your room.

We mostly walked everywhere. It should be fine. If you stay at the Maya, the lobby is quite close to the shopping mall, so it would be a 3 min walk.
From the lobby at the Maya, all the way to the beach, it could be a 10 to 15 min walk, but most likely you wont do that walk very often

Its very entertaining because there is beauty everywhere you walk so you dont feel it. I had to stop and think about it because it did not feel like that to me. They also have golf carts to take you places.

Environmental Levy Fee
The Municipalidad of Solidaridad in the Rivera Maya is one of the most beautiful places in the Mexican Caribbean. Tourism has been instrumental in driving the economic and social development of the region. In an effort to continue to preserve, conserve and beautify the destination, the Municipality of Solidaridad has implemented a small environmental levy on visitors effective September 1, 2017. Hotels will collect 20 Mexican pesos per room per day on check out; the proceeds will be deposited in an environmental trust to fund local projects. The Municipalidad of Solidaridad thanks you for your understanding and support of this worthwhile endeavor. Thank you and enjoy your visit.
