Nine days at Maya with husband
Resort was fantastic. So beautiful and tons to see and do. My husband and I stayed 8 nights/9 days and were never bored. The pool was our favorite place to spend time. We did take advantage of all 4 resorts that we were able to visit on site and loved them all. We never walked away from any meal still hungry. The only resturaunt we were not a huge fan of was the Rodizio on the Del Mar/ Beach side. Our favorite restaurant was Under the Sea. I am glad we chose Maya as it does give full access to 4 resorts and also the elevators came in handy many times. Every staff member we came in contact with was always so nice. Neither of us have any real negatives about this resort. We will definitely return.

Maya is a place where you get a lot for your money. Two thumbs up.
This place was outstanding. We felt it was great what you get for the price. The complex is very large. If you stay at the Maya, you can go to three other connecting resorts while you’re here. The food is good. Some things were outstanding others were just okay. But definitely something for everyone.

Really high hopes ending in disappointment and the feeling of over paying.
Overall I’d say we were underwhelmed and let down by the property. Was this a 5 -star? Yes, it WAS, no longer is it today IMO. All the staff were pleasant, attentive and helpful. Did I want pool-service? No. But they were around and I was asked if I was Ok for drinks. Some people want more of that, I was ok with what I got. Keep that in mind if you expect to be offered a drink every 10 minutes while lounging poolside, they don’t come around as often as other resorts. Food was mostly mediocre, buffet and a-la-cart, didn’t matter it bordered on meh and bleh it seemed. The only exception was whenever they served lunch poolside, tacos, noodles, paella, didn’t matter, it was all good. I also had paella at the buffet for dinner a few nights and it was good there too. The overall cleanliness of the resort was acceptable. Did we have a fair amount of bird poop on our balcony that was there when we arrived and was never cleaned the whole time we were there? Yup! But the staff were very good at keeping the grounds and shared facilities cleaned. Our room although recently renovated had many details that required maintenance or simply some attention to detail. Much more than I would expect from a 5 star, especially in Mexico. They turn off the AC in the lobby overnight, so if you have an early checkout, you will for sure be sweating due to the heat and humidity. There was also minor power failures around the pool area while we were there and magically our AC turned off on it’s own. I’m not sure if it was coincidence, but having no AC overnight is not acceptable. We found it odd to have this sense of disappointment since all the recent reviews and YouTube videos we saw were all incredibly positive. Until we spoke to 2 different groups of people who all had been to this property within the past 2 years and they both said that there was a noticeable difference in the hotel from their previous experience. All mentioned the food quality being poor as well as the overall maintenance and entertainment. They also complained that there were many closed facilities (probably due to low season, which I kinda expected). So, that was our “ah-ha” moment. I couldn’t help but feel like there might have been a management change that happened, because it didn’t seem to add up. On the surface the place is stunning, stay there a while and peel back the layers and you can see the impact of cost cutting when managers go too far. A lot more detail can be provided to enforce this argument, but honestly, those reading this and experienced what we did will know what I’m saying. Also, although “convenient” the shopping center and all stores on site are a complete ripoff. They are not just a little bit expensive, they are outright extorting people who want to spend money. The staff will tell you the pricing is equivalent to what you find at the airport…lies. Keychains were all around $20CAD, at the airport…$8. Souvenir pen $12USD, airport $4. Don’t fall for it. Was I able to relax? Sure. Did I feel like I overpaid for what I got and feel like I was taken advantage of? Yeah. This is an expansive resort, it’s huge, one should expect that the maintenance costs for a place like this would be shy-high. I would argue that’s the cost of doing business, before long the backlog of required maintenance will be enormous and too big a burden to come back from, and by then you will have enough people feeling like me who will not come back.

Fun stay but definitely not luxury
We had a fun stay as a family of 4. We have been to other Iberostar properties and this one was very similar. Staff is super friendly but the resort is a little worn. Room bathrooms could be updated (mold and shower doors that don’t shut properly), lazy river was underwhelming and in need of updates (broken lights, no tubes available most of the day), the food was ok (our favorite was Italian) but a lot of it is very greasy and bland. We did not swim on the beach (sargassum season and lots of jellyfish) but we were aware of this before booking. I was happy we went during offseason and saved a lot of money on booking. We would have been more disappointed if we paid full price as it is definitely not a luxury stay.

Iberostar Maya for Dad and two sons
The Hotel lobby area is nice. Rooms are average looking, depending on the villa, some rooms may need some upgrading. The Bars are very good. Bartenders know what they are doing and courteous. The food taste was average, not very tasty as other resorts I have stayed (e.g. Bahia Principe). The a-la cart rest are nicely decorated but the food was not very impressive. Pools, water slides, and Lazy River were very good.
