We love this resort. Dressel Divers rocks.

This was not only our second stay at this resort, it was the second in a row. We have never repeated a resort before. We're already talking about our third visit. The staff at the resort are all super friendly. They don't all speak English but generally you can either make your meaning known or they'll ask for assistance from someone who does speak English. Everyone has a smile and a greeting for you. The specialty restaurants are quite good, except the Mexican restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed the Japanese restaurant where the meals are cooked at a hibachi table. The chef did a great job. We recommend the rib eye steak at the steak restaurant. It was very tender and superbly cooked. We also ate at El Colonial, the french gourmet restaurant. I had the pheasant roll. I'm not a "foo foo" food eater and wasn't sure about it but the filling was creamy and delicious. I had the steak tenderloin for my main course, which lived up to it's name and was accompanied by a great sauce. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the squash soup he had as a starter and his main entree of Caribbean butter shrimp. We thought the food at the Mexican restaurant was gross the last time we visited, so didn't choose that restaurant for one of our reservations. We managed to get the same palapa on the beach each day. It was in the front row between the dive shop and the lighthouse bar. We had a great view, especially of the sunset. The palapas are well made with a small table encircling the main support, which is big enough for things like drinks and tanning lotions. There were a few plastic tables at some of the palapas, too. They protected us from occasional rain showers as well as the sun. The lounge chairs aren't the most comfortable. I felt like I wanted to sit up a bit more than they allowed. It looked like the ones at the pool were much more comfortable. I hope they'll replace the ones at the beach with the same style. The dive shop and scuba diving near the resort are wonderful. Honestly, that is one of the main reasons we came back to this resort. I managed to squeeze in 12 dives in the week I was there. I can't say enough good things about the Dressel Divers staff. The dive spots are generally within a 10 minute boat ride from the resort. There is no shore diving. Dressel Divers has been given 5 stars by PADI. Tip: book your dives online in advance for a 20% discount. There are a couple of wreck dives which are a bit deeper. Most of the dives are on shallower reefs, so there is lots of marine life and very intense colors. I want to give special thanks to Francisco, the manager. We were disappointed that we didn't get a room with a king sized bed, as we requested. It turns out Cheap Carribbean didn't pass on our notes that we were celebrating our birthdays, anniversary and request for the king bed to them at all. Once the hotel found out about the omission, they more than made up for the oversight. We were upgraded to a junior suite with a king bed. A banner was even put on our door indicating there was a birthday being celebrated. Americans are in the minority at this resort, as most visitors are European or from South America. It is also popular with Russians. Due to this, tipping is neither expected or common. We are well aware of the poverty of most of the residents of the country and chose to give $1-$2 tips here and there. We found they were greatly appreciated by the staff. There was good WIFI reception everywhere in the hotel and beach with the exception of our bathroom for some reason. Will we go back? As I mentioned above, we're already thinking about when we'll be able to afford to go back again.

Great service, great value.

I will keep this review short and sweet. This was a wonderful experience. The staff was helpful, friendly and hardworking. I was nervous about not getting into restaurants but we ended up with 4 reservations. The steakhouse was our least favorite but it was still good. We loved the Japanese habachi. Definitely get the fried rice. We also loved the Mexican restaurant. I can’t remember the exact name but the tacos that claim authentic Mexico City flavor are delicious. We also thought the French restaurant was excellent. We ended up upgrading to an ocean view. It was worth it! We were steps from the beach and pool. If you don’t want to spend all the extra money for the ocean, I would recommend at least going for the pool view. Not because looking at the pool is great but it will ensure you a closer walk to the water.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive, everything-you-want escape haven.

Chillaxing with a cocktail at the epic Lighthouse Bar that's right on the beach.

Destressing with a beachfront massage, Turkish bath & other goodies at the spa.

The sand castle building, mini-golf, horseshoes and more for the kiddos.

What We'd Change

The food at this resort is wonderful, but you may not be the only one feasting. The mosquitoes can really go to town here, so be sure to pack repellent.

Why You Should Go

It's about an hour and a half drive from the Santo Domingo airport. Nap time.

At the Aquarium, nearby, you can see aahmazing coral.

Don't miss the snorkeling/scuba at Dressel Divers Center - there's a fee, but worth it.

If you need an extra twin bed for a teen or little one, just ask - you can get one.
