Great Caribbean Stay!!

This was a our first Carribbean getaway together and it was great!! The resort is a little older but is well maintained. Antigua is under a water shortage right now and I assume that is the reason for the inadequate water pressure of the shower. The beaches were a dream and the food was better than ok but not 5 star chef meals. Still very satisfying, great selection.

If you expect decent food and quarters do come her

Wow...not sure where to begin..best is I show pics, but it all started with the room...no door to the bathroom. shower, closet, bathroom and toilet all in one room...toilet was on a concrete slab that you had to get on to use the toilet...just weird...tiles on the floor all stained, no pics on the wall, and the outside shades did not stay up all the time...the best part was you can walk right out to the beach...and yes, the main part of the rip should be the beach and food so we thought we would manage. That was until the food.....unknown to us...the majority of food was just that...morning was grease bacon, dry bread, boxed cereals, and eggs...one type of fruit and that was it...lunch was; cheeseburgers, hot dogs, soggy fries, rice and beans, and oily (from frying) fish...diner was; well done roast, dry ham, same fish, same beans, and one night BQ chicken and ribs.....There was nothing Caribbean about this trip other than the the view and beach. We also gotten eaten up by Mosquitoes (not the resorts fault but just added to the misery). David the bartender was the only person that keep us sane. My wife wanted to leave after day two regardless of flt costs. I also had to fight with the resort to get a new room and then finally did but had to pay $100.

Good value, but read my comments before going

1- if bringing American currency, ask your bank for bills without tears or marks. They won't take the with tears. 2- It's an American custom to tip. It seems tipping did NOTHING for the staff. A majority of the staff were extremely rude and grouchy. 3- BEWARE of the garden rooms. They have NO air conditioning and no real windows. The bats and frogs kept me up ALL night the first night. We then upgraded to the AC room for only $20 US extra per day. That was a no brainer to do that. 4- Antigua is known for the "sand flea". DO NOT go on the beach right after it rains. You will have bites up and down your legs and ankles. Being on a lawn chair will not help. They climb and crawl all over the chairs to reach you. 5- Tuesday night was Indian food with no other options. Needless to say, I didn't eat. 6- Wednesday night we weren't there for, but they had a BBQ. 7- times for meals are really obscure. Fill up at lunch at 1230 because dinner isn't until 730. 8- drinks were all strong and good 9- get a chair right around breakfast time or you will not have a chair the rest of the day. And bring something waterproof to leave on the chair to still claim it through a brief shower that may pass. 10- getting coffee or tea or water at the tables is a chore. The servers get to you by the time you are done with your breakfast 11- the resort is outdated. But they are making improvements and seem to be on top of repairs 12- get a massage. Really Good! Cheap too! $50 US for 30 minutes. $80 US for an hour. Well worth it. Make appt early so it's not so hot out. 13- nude beach is very large. Lots of concrete rocks in the water though. 14- bar closes at 11pm. Nothing to do after. 15- lots of old people go here (over 65) Hope this helps. I wish someone like me wrote this to prepare myself for this resort. Overall, I would go back armed with my new knowledge.

Great vacation

Just came back from a great week at the hawksbill. The good great location, amazing beaches, and good rooms. Food is decent but if you're a vegetarian choices are limited. Chefs do make an effort to accommodate however. No gym, pool is really a splash pool for kids, no beach activities Overall we loved our stay at the hawksbill. It is a beautiful location Very peaceful which is exactly what we were looking for. They advised us to drink bottled water on the resort but they ran out for two days over the weekend. The bad The bugs. The bug problem was terrible with everyone being eaten alive. They do not spray which I have seen at other resorts so it is pretty bad.
