Stay at Grotto

We stayed at the Grotto Bay Resort from March 21-27 2019. We went in off season and got a very good price for air and hotel. We had a room overlooking the Bay and was very comfortable The pool is heated and one of the neatest things is their cave swimming. We had the breakfast buffet twice. We also had dinner once in the restaurant and my husband said it was his best meal of our stay. The bus service was at the front of the property. We bought a 4 day pass at the post office in St Georges. It included unlimited travel on the bus and the ferry. If you want a shorter time frame, you can purchase at the front desk. On Mondays, they have a welcome party where the manager speaks and rum swizzles are served. Every day they serve tea and snacks in the afternoon. It is also nice to have the Blue Hole Watersports available on site. We did not utilize as the day we were going out on the water, it rained. It is walking distance from Crystal Caves and the Rum Swizzle restaurant. Everyone was very nice and all questions answered. I would highly recommend this resort, It is beautiful, great location and wonderful people.

Beautiful resort

Well maintained grounds and facilities, the view is beautiful. The rooms are large and comfortable. We did not purchase the all inclusive package as most guests at the resort did and after our stay I still would not. We walked to the railway trail for a morning walk/run, stopped on the way back at The Swizzle Inn for brunch and an adult beverage, lounged by the pool til 2 or 3, then got dressed for dinner and shopping in Hamilton, the Dockyard or St. George's. Taxis are plentiful, but a bit pricy. The ferrys are scheduled regularly as are the buses , if you choose, also these are very inexpensive. Bermuda is my new favorite island.

It was okay

I cannot comment on dining since I didn’t eat there. I bought food from the Jamaican grill and variety store around the corner. Over I would recommend even though I gave them three stars. I took two away for the following reasons: The walls/ ceilings are too thin. The guests upstairs was noisy at all hours of the morning and night- heavy footsteps and dragging something across the floor that woke me up each night I was there. Thankfully I was only there for 3 nights so I dealt with it. I could hear when neighbors flushed their toilet. Second, upon arriving, I inquired at the front desk whether my card would be charged for gratuities since the confirmation email from Cheapcaribbean stated that gratuities were already collected as part of my reservation and should not be charged by the hotel. The lady stated they don’t do that and acted as though she had no idea what I was speaking of. Even after I told her I had a print out of the info., she did nothing to check, took my card and placed it on file anyway. The next day I went back and spoke to another front desk staff ( Rickai) . He was very helpful, he took a look at my print out, made a copy of it , and placed a note in the system that my card should not be charged. Upon checking out, I encountered the same lady as when I checked in (who later stated she was the front desk manager) . Upon confirming that my card will not be charged , she gave me a strange look and slowly nodded as though I had asked something wrong. I found her not to be personable. Besides that, the room was clean and comfortable. Other staff were very nice. I especially appreciated that they did not hurry me out of the room prior to check out time as other hotel do. The beach was small. There was quite a bit of rain and cool temps. So I wouldn’t suggest going around March if you’re seeking hot weather. Overall, it was nice and I would recommend if you’re looking to get away for some R&R.
