Good time but could have definitely been better

My lady’and I celebrating her birthday and have been to Mexico a couple of times before and enjoyed ourselves but during other trips we have run around like crazy seeing all of the tourists attractions and partying so this trip we wanted the complete opposite. We wanted relaxation, great service and amenities, amazing food and drinks, and to have a view of amazing beach mexico is known for. Over all I’d say we got that, but it was not perfect by a long shot. Here are a few of my gripes. •Check in: We booked our reservation through a 3rd party sight not knowing that this automatically put us in a category of lesser options and services. When arrived we were directed to circle around to a different entrance once they could not find our names on the list which we found out later was the (booked directly through them clients list) and the “other” reservations had a separate entrance. Funny thing bc the entrances were side by side but to me it already seemed like we were being separated from the “VIP” clients but what ever we still were greeted friendly and professionally. •Beach/Pools: The area were our beach was located the water looked dirty. It was not that amazing aqua blue color water we had experienced in other parts of mexico where we have stayed at before but the pools were fantastic so we spent most of our time there laying under the sun. •Drinks: The drinks were watered down and I am assuming it was because we didn’t know or have the option to get the “VIP” access to the top shelf liquor as the clients who booked direct through them did. We noticed the different color wristbands and the separation I mentioned when we arrived to check in we got our wristbands then. • Restaurants: The Brazilian Steakhouse sucked. Over cooked meat and only one option of steak was served. Horribly dissatisfied. We ended up leave and going to the main kitchen buffet to eat. The Japanese was our favorite. • Spa: Our Experience in the Spa was a well less then bliss. The Hyrdeo jet pools were great, the massages were mediocre and our bistro lunch was screwed up. It was all supposed to happen one after another in the same day as a spa and bistro lunch package we brought but they booked it poorly. When we finished our spa experience and were to head to lunch and the kitchen was closing and we had to come back a different day to have the lunch. I was infuriated with this botched service because it was a treat for my ladies birthday trip of relaxation and after already spending 2 1/2 hrs at the spa we left the spa starving. •The Mayan Experience dinner and show was great. Separate fee but a beautiful experience. •Service: Our concierge person was great and went out of her way to help correcting our negative issues when they arise and we were grateful for that. The manager even sent a bottle of champagne to our room as an apology for the bad experience we had at the spa and a issue we had in our room which was attended to right away. Knowing what I know now I would request a few things differently like top shelf liquor bands and try different restaurants other the the Brazilian steakhouse on the resort, if we were to stay there again.

Excellant

The resort was more than I could have every imagined. Ivan was our Man to go to. Curtious, sweet and filled with information. We (8 of us) did not have to wait for anything. Rooms were gorgeous and always neat and tidy and filled w/Water,soda,beer,and coffee on our daily return. Pools were beyond nice and the pool bars were fun. Met a zillion people there, all nice, relaxed and full of energy. Food in all the places were excellent and if you went hungry, that was on you. Taxi were easy to find incase you were drained from a day of sunshine. Heat was HIGH,but you felt great to awake to it. Always something for everyone to do. Took a boat to 2 other Islands, Gorgeous..Swam with the Dolphins, ziplined and after 6 hours back on the boat and van to resort. Loved it and would recommend everyone try it.

Not as good as first time

Pros: Room upgrade had better air conditioning and nicer shower than regular room. Most employees were very nice and helpful. Family friendly environment. Cons: Two light bulbs out in room, alarm clock didn't work, sink faucet loose, bugs in room at night. Beach unusable due to massive seaweed rotting all over. Smells horrible. Concierge (Marcos) was non existent. He was only there the first and last day of our 7 night trip. We complained to his supervisor (Yoel) who apologized and helped us out with another issue but didn't fix the concierge issue. Even the first day when Marcos was there he didn't want to help us with excursions, but only tried to push the stupid timeshare that we were in no way interested in. The last day he wouldn't even look at us or acknowledge us obviously because we got him in trouble. Very unprofessional. Food is very bland and geared toward British culture. Buffet is very hot with no air conditioning. You sweat while eating food left at unsafe temperatures and flies buzzing around. This would never pass fda codes in the USA, but I guess I can't expect standards here. Ice cream attendant was very rude. Lamb stew even had a piece of plastic packaging in it (see pic)
