Great vacation, but wouldn't stay again

CheapCaribbean.com offered a deal on this resort. Overall i was happy with everything. The Pros: the room was very nice and a comfortable bed - pillows were a little firm, the food was fine - the buffet did not offer a lot of "local" cuisine though, the bar offered everything you needed and the staff was very friendly, the resort was clean and grounds crew were always working to maintain the view - if you do stay try to get a 3rd floor room facing the water otherwise you are just looking at trees for the most part, and the staff/service was good as well -helpful when you needed something but not pushy. The Cons: The beach left a lot to desire . The beach sand was a little rough on bare feet. I chose this resort specifically for the snorkel reviews. Unfortunately, during my trip the waves were rough (except our departing day - snorkel gear already packed) and the seaweed was a huge deterrent to get in the water. The crew did work in the mornings to rake the seaweed but it was never ending - probably due to the rough waters/storm that passed thorough So my view of the beach is, unfortunately, a little skewed. The entertainment was OK. I have stayed at resorts where the entertainment was phenomenal so this fell short in comparison. I did enjoy my trip, but i would not choose to stay at this resort again.

Resort issues

1. Beach, could not enjoy the beach with a 3-4 foot pile of seaweed along the beach, the smell was not good. 2. Snorkeling, Once you swam threw the seaweed floating on the water, 200 yds. you could snorkel and did see lots of fish. 3. Room. A/C did not work the first 4 nights, finally repaired after a few tries. One day went back to room and none of the lights worked, this was fixed 1st try!!! Room was nice sized with a comfortable king size bed. 4. Food, Only allowed too eat in restaurants two nights during are stay. The buffet was ok, just what you would expect. 5, Pools and Grounds are great and well maintained 6. Service, Great throughout are stay, always people their to get drinks etc. the concierge people were a great help with bookings and printiing boarding passes.

I would not recommend it

Unfortunately our stay was not what we expected. On our arival we decided to pay extra to upgrade our room to be closer to the biggest pool and have an ocean view. On day 2 the pool was closed down, and construction began: it was loud, dusty, very unpleasant. We went up to the front desk if they have another room available that is the same maybe on other side or if they could refund our money for that room they did nothing to help. Day before our vacation was over they called to offer to change the room to a worse one that we had. We didn’t take it. They couldn’t refund any money. Beach is disgusting and smells. We didn’t go to the water once. Workers have been cleaning it up since we got here and 5 days later was still not done. We couldn’t get the restaurants we had wanted even though we tried as soon as we arrived. Over all I’m very upset, I don’t care even about the money I lost but about the time that I used on this vacation because it wasn’t relaxing at all.

I would not recommend it

Overpayed

We booked this trip bc my fiancé had vacationed at the Grand Sirenis a few years ago and loved the lazy river and the ability to snorkel off the shore. When I saw the specials available through CheapCaribbean, we jumped at the opportunity to take my girls. Unfortunately, we had to work with limited dates due to spring break and lack of flexibility from my ex. This jacked the price up substantially. We then encountered an issue at the airport on the day we were to leave and ended up having to change our flights, which cost an additional $875, despite having purchased the travel insurance. We put our happy faces on and were bound and determined to make it a great trip. PROS: -The travel arrangements to/from the airport were seamless -The staff at both CheapCaribbean and the Grand Sirenis is very friendly -The lazy river is wonderful CONS: -Most of the staff speaks limited English -The “all inclusive” title is deceiving as you have to pay extra for silly things, like wine (which tasted like vinegar), and Bacardi. Also, only one dinner at a restaurant was included for a five night stay. I have been to several all inclusives and dinner each night, was included each night. -The rooms are lame and dated, especially after you take the sales pitch tour and see how beautiful the “member” rooms are -The water was so rough that snorkeling wasn’t an option, a giant disappointment when snorkeling is what they tout! Overall, we paid $7200 (for a family of 4) for a five night trip. We were told by others there that they paid half that. I’m not sure what went wrong but we definitely DID NOT get what we paid for.
