A lot to like

So, pretty awesome vacation. 3 female travelers from US, one a 12 year old. We never left the resort. The pictures are pretty accurate. It’s a huge beautiful resort with lots of cute animals (coati, sereque, iguanas, raccoons and cats) roaming around. We asked for 3rd floor and got it. Yes, first floor is noisy with carts and people so try for 2nd or 3rd. Yes, there’s a lot of walking which is a plus if you like walking. The pools are awesome and clean and huge. The lazy river was a hit with the 12 year old who could have lived in it. It’s not a continuous loop, you have to exit and walk 25 ft to re-enter. Fun to tube or swim it. You can always find a spot at the pools if you want with varying degrees of quiet or activity and music/noise. Yes, like everyone says, don’t go here for a pristine white sand beach. There are a couple sandy entries where mostly families played with small children. On the main beach there is seaweed to step over and avoid and rocks and a dead coral shelf within 20 ft of waters edge but mostly sand on the other side to play in if you want. The snorkeling there is non-existant. The beach/cove to the left, by the private beach club is the snorkel site. The 2 coves are about a 2 minute walk apart. I brought my own gear and underwater camera. In 6 hours (an hour a day) I got 2 stingrays, a turtle and a squid along with tons of fish and beautiful sea fans. Weather cooperated and I felt I got lucky with the turtle and squid. Not much problem finding a good beach chair site anytime of day. Beach drink servers are excellent and came around frequently. The rooms are excellent and the beds are not crazy hard, like so many places. Every room has a balcony. The buffets are fine. If you can’t find something you like you’re too picky. The restaurants were good and fun. No problem booking. We did steakhouse, Thai and Japanese. Hot tips: Ice Cream shop has waffles, pastries and fruit if you miss breakfast buffet and the El Rancho on the upper Party pool has mid-day soft serve ice cream that is soooo good. Ask to sit outside at dinner buffet. Enjoyed the bike tour. Downside: had a problem with an angry, swearing neighbor in room next to ours. Scary situation. Security jumped into action 40 minutes after we called. They did nothing and our only solution was that we got inconvenienced by moving away from him. Not ideal but we got a “better” room much closer to the beach. The coffee shop is great but has never heard of chai. They told me people constantly ask for it. I put sugar and a tea bag in steamed milk and it was a great alternative. Most guests are British, Canadian and American. Not a huge crazy spring break crowd, thankfully. Hope this helps with your decision. Enjoy.

I would suggest it!

This resort is a little farther out than most, 50 minutes from the airport. If you book a shared shuttle, be prepared to spend almost 2 hours en rout to the resort including the additional stops for other passengers This resort is one of the larger ones, with 900 and some rooms, organized in a series of buildings each with 3 floors. My room in particular was one of the furthest from the pool, beach and restaurants. All of these things are basically centered around the lobby areas. From my room (in the KulKulCan building) it felt like quite the walk going back and forth from the lobby to other destinations on the resort. The room itself, junior suite, was above expectations. Two double beds (and comfortable!), spare blanket, a private patio that faced their nature landscape (we saw tons of monkeys, coatils, cats, and other little critters, it was entertaining!), air conditioning, a mini-fridge that got filled almost every day with water, a few beers and sodas, room service (took about 45 minutes but the had some good choices, all included in the all-inclusive), a beautiful shower and a very nice jetted bath (didn't end up using it, but it seemed nice!), a table and chairs for hanging out, and cable TV if you are into that. Rooms were above expectations for sure. What I loved: *The pools. 3 large pools, 2 of which had pool bars open from 10am-6pm, and plenty of lounge chairs in and out of the sun. Poolside also had waitress service. Only downside is that NO pools were "adults only". *Bars. The place has a few bars, all of which were nice, service was attentive. *Concierge Service - Each couple of buildings had concierges that worked for most of the day time and evening that would help you if you had any questions or needed anything. *The service in general. ALL staff, with exception to NO one, were super friendly, helpful, accomodating, and fun. *Buffet - don't listen to the nay-sayers that state the food was terrible, it is not. It is good enough. *Mexican Night - on Tuesday, not sure this happens every week, but there was a "Mexican Theme" that was very fun - they had vendors come in with home-made items, *Beach/poolside activities - they had yoga, dart tournaments, beach and pool volleyball, plenty of other little "fun" activities here and there if you needed to be entertained. *THE LAZY RIVER! was amazing. While it's short, it's super relaxing and was a lot of fun. *The nature - as discussed earlier - lots of wildlife - iguanas, coatils, many cats, and monkeys that would jump from tree to tree - lots of greenery around the resort, which I loved, and I enjoyed having a little bit of room to explore. *Robe and slippers to use - I don't know why, but while on vacation I just love this! What could have been improved: *The beach. It is beautiful, but rocky and full of sea-weed. It is not a traditional beach, but is more of a triangle-shaped beach with a little island in between. The ocean swimming could have been better, a section of the beach was also under construction while I visited. *More vegetarian varieties at restaurants - some are better than others. At the Thai restaurant, there was only one, but at the Italian, there were several. Also it was a bummer that for a 6 night stay, you only got 2 reservations at a la carte restaurants. But the buffet had great variety. I also felt like the thai was not very close to thai, at least not what I have had. *Felt a little bit TOO large for me, walking back and forth from our room to all of the stuff - restaurants, activities, the beach, bars, etc - it felt like a lot of walking. *No small water bottle provided by resort. I get trying to be green, but the water we were given was just in a 5-liter jug, and it would have been nice to be able to have one portable, even reusable, water bottle would be nice, so you can take it with you while walking around the resort. *The staff DO try to sell you a more "exclusive"/upgraded membership, but they are not pushy about it and once you tell them no, they left us alone. ALL IN ALL - I would totally suggest this resort if you want a place with a lot to do, a lazy river, and don't mind the extra commute out there.

Awesome Vacation!

My husband and I just returned from a week at this resort and we had a wonderful time! The room was spacious, clean and modern! Housekeeping was terrific and the concierge took care of any little concern right away. We ate at the buffets for breakfasts and lunches and had dinner at 4 restaurants. The big buffet had tons of options and the smaller buffet by one of the pools was really convenient for the times we wanted something quick. We also had lunch one day at the beach BBQ which was perfect for when you don't want to leave the beach. The restaurants were terrific especially the Thai. We never ate Thai food before and just loved it! The location of the resort is beautiful although we were disappointed that the weather was windy so the water was stirred up and not so great for snorkeling. We were still able to catch a bus 10 min. down to the public beach where we snorkeled and saw sea turtles in the wild. We toured Chichen Itza on the express tour which was great because we learned alot, the tour was fantastic but it didn't take up an entire day. We also toured a local cenote which was AMAZING! At the resort, we enjoyed the natural habitats all over the resort. (lots of neat critters to watch) We really liked the short cut paths through the beautiful landscaped grounds. There are active pools, a quiet pool and a fun lazy river! The evening shows were great and we enjoyed a coffee/tea each evening at the cute little coffee shop. We did take advantage of the dolphin experience which was terrific! This resort is big but service is not sacrificed at all! Fun, Fun Fun!!!

Not so hot on Sirenis

I just returned from the resort a week ago 2/9/2019. Overall I felt the resort was kind of run down. Furniture was old and beaten up and not up to date. I've been to several resorts for all inclusive packages and this is by far my least favorite. The first thing you notice when you enter the lobby, they don't greet you with a drink or welcome or anything. You go straight to the counter to log in and that's it. Not very welcoming. No big deal I guess. I can't really complain about the buffet meals but I would say they were on average mediocre. The four themed meals (you're only supposed to get 3 but we got 4....they try to get you to join a sales pitch for time shares) were decent I guess but not outstanding. The biggest complaint I have about the resort is the layout. It had to be a half a mile from my room to the beach. My wife and I are in our 60's and the long walks became very arduous. We were told that shuttles drove by every 15 minutes but that was not the case. We had to flag down a shuttle if they happen to pass by, which wasn't very often. Sometimes the shuttle would keep on going by and not stop and give a ride. If you're young this won't be an issue with you but we had conversations with quite a few people who felt the same way. I will say the grounds of the resort are clean and picturesque. The beaches were nice but not really very sandy and there are a lot of rocks to watch out for. My highest compliment is to the workers. The great majority were very friendly and helpful.
