Excellent experience- 2nd time here
Our 2nd trip to Grand Park Royal Cancun and it was another great experience. The restaurants have great ambiance and the food is better than many all inclusive resorts. Our butler, Yajahira attended to everything we needed or wanted the entire week, as did every staff member we encountered. We participated in many events at the resort such as water aerobics, karaoke, scuba diving lessons, live music and dancing, volleyball, massage and facial.

A Very High Level of Execution
Let's start by acknowledging that it has been quite a while since we last traveled. I have visited Cancun five times, including this visit. Ten years out of the traveling scene, my trip began bleakly at first. Airport (YEAH) After landing in Cancun, the fun started. I was abruptly moved into the customs inspection area. Not sure why, however, unfortunately, I am a smoker, so when I land, I am fixated on one thing, the last of us smokers know. IYKYK. Anyway, BECAUSE I bought cigarettes for my wife and me, I was over the limit by nine packs, according to the 19-year-old "military" fatigue gentleman. I was quickly and rudely shuttled to a room. I have traveled internationally frequently in the past, and I have never had any issues. Well, through much back and forth, I even offered to throw them away without a second thought, as I knew my shuttle was waiting, waiting, and waiting. And I still hadn't achieved the primary goal: inhaling some pollutants. So back and forth, being threatened to be fined and imprisoned, I reluctantly paid the $441.00 for nine packs of cigarettes. Not a big deal, just $49 for a pack of cigarettes. The airport must do better than this; tourism is a vast and essential industry, and situations like this leave a bad impression on visitors like me—this scam. Let's call it like we see it; it detracts from the natural beauty, the culture, the prime resorts, and all the other things you have to offer. Ok, let's stop, finally I was excited to throw money away, but finally I got the chance to smoke a very, very expensive one while laughing that I had to wait for the shuttle as he had departed because a teenager was scorning me with a "chosen" split in understanding English and the Spanish language. Now, with this said, I only bring this into this review because you can imagine my "spirit" by the time we arrived at the resort. Service 5/5 The Resort is beautiful. Upon arrival, we were greeted swiftly and taken to a concierge check-in office. This is where we met Jessica, our butler for the duration of our stay. I will say she is a HUGE asset to the company. Having spent my entire career in the hospitality business, I was overly impressed. You can tell if the care is genuine or insincere. From my interaction with Jessica, from our arrival until our departure, she exemplified what pride and care mean. I would give her five stars for her efforts with us, which went well beyond the scope of her job. As we began to explore the resort, we quickly noticed a high level of pride among the entire staff. Yes, I said that, not a few selected exemplary employees, but rather EVERYONE we ran into. The service "Culture" established here is five out of five. This does not happen by accident, but is attributed to the mindset set by leaders who have boots on the ground. Kudos to the entire staff for the level of service given. You should be very proud. Cleanliness 5/5 Let's say the pride spilled directly over the cleanliness of the entire property. From the well-maintained landscape to the immaculate corners and vent fans in our room, everything was spotless. I can elaborate on this section further, but if you value cleanliness as highly as I do, this resort is on point. Food 3.5/5 For the most part, the food met my expectations for an all-inclusive resort. There were some highlights, the rooftop bar is beautiful, and it's a very cool vibe space. The views were super cool. The seafood spot by the main pool was an excellent experience. We opted for Le Grand, the upcharge steakhouse, one night. It's weird to be the only people dining—usually, a red flag, but not in this case. The food was delicious, except for the steaks being cooked improperly in temperature, which can and will always happen. No biggie, it was an enjoyable experience. As a side note, I have never been to an all-inclusive resort that did not have bacon and/or sausage on the buffet line. I realize that not all people will eat it, but I would. Out of the 65% of the diners I saw, I think they would have enjoyed it very much. Anyway, the omelets were delicious and cooked perfectly. All in all, met my expectations. By the way, Jessica was great at setting up our dining requests. Cons of the resort Please note that this is only my opinion and suggestion. I consume a tremendous amount of water throughout the day. To make matters worse, if it is not cold enough to stick to my tongue (like the frozen recess pole), it simply isn't cold enough. We were blessed to be in the Villas. Our room was spacious and featured a plunge pool on its stone patio. Beautiful in every sense of the word. Here is where the accounts are doing a disservice. There is always a tension between operations managers and accountants in almost all businesses. Your room is furnished with beer, non-alcoholic beverages, and one bottle of wine. However, no alcohol was stocked. Now, I understand that there has to be a very tight level of control on many things, specifically the alcohol line items. But, on the front line, it is different to field consistent requests for a better method of liquor service specifically. You are "directed" to use all the bar facilities for alcohol service. Ok, I get that to "gently" regulate the inventory/consumption. However, in my situation, it was not very convenient at all. First, our room was beautiful and invited you to stay there for most of the day. Walking between the beach bed (very nice by the way) and our villa, and making a day of this was routine. To get a drink, I would have to walk a short distance. And when I say short, I am saying that I am biting my tongue slightly. Now, as referenced above, ice is a larger issue for me, probably more than any human. I had to coordinate between the bar and the self-service Pepsi machine to retrieve ice on a regular basis. This was an unnecessary and frustrating journey. I then worked out how to purchase a bottle of our preferred spirit choice. Additionally, I was able to get ice delivered to the room when requested, which again contributed to the impeccable service of the staff. So with every complaint, there is a solution, in my opinion. This is where the accountant needs to sharpen the pencil and do the math. Invest in individual ice makers for rooms that offer the capability to have ice, providing all the amenities needed for a day of stay and relaxation. Okay, I understand the initial cost of purchasing the units, as well as the service and maintenance, and so on. I also realize the scale we are dealing with, but the purchaser should be able to leverage the amount and create substantial savings. Create a "Premier Package" that includes the ice maker, spirit of choice, and selected mix-ins for the guest. AND, here is the beauty, charge a premium price. I would not have blinked at spending $300 or $400 for this service. So, run some figures on potential revenue for this service. I think that should redirect the accountant's thought process. So, adding the additional top-line revenue, subtracting the COGs and other related expenses, I believe the upside is very significant. If anyone reads this in the office, and you should be, please consider this option, as it would alter my experience in this area and make us very excited to return on an annual basis. So, overall, my experience was exceptional on the operational front. I am majorly impressed and would recommend this property to my inner circle. Congratulations, team Grand Park Royal. Well done!
