Meh...
Overall, I enjoyed The Grand Palladium, but...
We had issues at check-in. Told reception that we would like a queen or king bed...ended up in a room with two double beds after being told they were queen. Immediately called to reception to get things fixed and their first concern was whether or not we had used anything in the room. They promises to fix things and call us back. An hour goes by, we call reception again and they assure us they are working on getting a room ready. Another hour passes and this time we make the walk to reception (completely separate buildings, oh, and no elevators so here’s hoping you don’t end up on a third floor...). At this point shift change has occurred and the new staff knows nothing of our room issue. We sit for at least another half hour waiting for them to check other people in before they work on our room. We finally get new room keys and into our new room, but now our first day has been completely wasted.
Then dining...at two different restaurants we were told they had closed despite it still being within posted meal times and that we had to go elsewhere. Two different dinner nights they were out of the items we wished to order and another had no dessert to offer us except ice cream because they had put everything away...
At one bar they would not serve us unless we were waiting to be seated at the mexican restaurant, but the bar was jo specifically inside the restaurant.
Your ‘mini bar’ is a few beers, water, and a few sodas...if you want a bottle of liquor in your room you have to purchase it. Oh, and they will only stock your mini bar once a day...
The rooms were not as good or satisfactory as was expected. The food was not that great at various restaurants. The services for room, activities and or exursions were not available as promised. My friends and I could not get a massage at the spa because the resort did not honor the discounted prices that were promised to us in exchange for a 4 Hr. presentation that was promised to only take about an Hr. of our time, about some time share hotel rooms to buy for future use. And then on top of that we still didn't benefit from the 4 Hr. presentation because we didn't get what we were promised!! And that was 4 Hrs. of our vacation time WASTED!!
This was our second time in Jamaica and second time staying at a grand Palladium resort. The previous resort we stayed at in Jamaica was a bit nicer. The grand Palladium we stayed at in Mexico was definitely nicer than this location. The property is only 10 years old but seemed more like it was 20 years old – a lot of repairs needed to be made. The staff were all amazing! Every staff member we encountered did a wonderful job! They really made us feel at home. The food was excellent especially the jerk chicken! Evening entertainment was really good. My favorite part of the vacation was watching the sunset every night from Sunset Beach.
This was our second time using Cheep Caribbean to book this resort. We decided to come back because we loved it so much. No reservations needed for the restaurants other then the habchi is amazing esp. since we had a baby this time. I love that you are always outside at the restaurants, bars, shows etc. I come to Jamaica to enjoy the nice weather. The staff is always so pleasant and full of smiles. I will say we were sad that this trip we paid more and did not have an ocean view. There was no option to pick and since we had an ocean view last time we assumed one again. When we asked to have one it was going to cost us extra. It started our trip very poorly. When you go back to a place for a second time and bring another couple you have high hopes to have the same experience.

resort fees3 answers
i want to book a package at the sheraton in nassau. i'm concerned about resort fees. does anyone know if the total price includes the $40/nt mandatory fee imposed by the resort?
9 years, 110 months ago
mrsmatt
Great question! Short answer: Yes!
All CheapCaribbean.com pricing includes mandatory fees (such as daily resort fees, bellmans fees, maids fee, etc.). We strive to make our clients' trips go as smoothly as possible.
A few things that may not be included in the hotel rates may be incidental fees, which may vary from resort to resort and are only a hold on the account. Incidental fees are assessed directly from the property in the event that additional services are purchased. For example: spa services are billed to your room, damages to the room occur during your stay or other scenarios such as those.
GetawayGuru
Once we got there everything was paid for. We did tip our waiters and maids, but you don't have to.

Any security guards at any of these resorts?11 answers

Most resorts do have security on site to ensure that those on property are guests of the resort. Since many of the resorts in Jamaica are all inclusive, the resorts make every effort to ensure that only those who are supposed to be there are allowed on property.
KateCC
Yes, I regularly saw security guards patroling the grounds.

Should we make reservations for the sit down restaurants before we go?
Is there a limit to the number of times you can eat at the sit down restaurants?

YES MAKE SURE U MAKE RESERVATIONS FOR THE SITE DOWN RESTAURANTS. THERE IS NO LIMIT
MrFlySoHigh
The Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton does not require reservations to dine at any of their ala carte restaurants-first come-first served, with no limits.
ccsusan1
No not really. Because we really didn't wait that long.15 min the Max.
I think there is because they ask you your room number. But why would you eat in the same place the same night. so many restaurants and they give you a lot of food.
TanvirNPrital
DEFINTLY MAKE RESERVATIONS!
no limit....
JAYKAY
We were told upon arrival they do not take reservations- what you do is go to where you want to eat and if there is a wait you can go sit at the bar and they'll call you when a table is ready- best to get there early if you are hungry. The portions may be smaller than what we are used to in the states but since you are not paying you can get whatever you want, and there's always a salad bar.
There is no limit- you could eat at the beachside seafood restaurant (our favorite) every single night if you want! Great place to get there early and watch the sunset- very romantic, there was even a small wedding party there one night.
Also we thought the creole restuarant and Indian restaurant were way underrated and there was never a wait!
(of course it depends how crowded the whole resort is I suppose)
suekb
We were there just last week and they were not taking reservations. First come first served.
apriltraveler
We tried to make reservations and they wouldn't take them. First come first serve. The steak house was the longest wait and really not worth the wait. If you go to eat at 5:30 to 6:00 no problem. After 6:00 will be a bout 30 to 60 minute wait, Just go to the outside bar and have a drink. Wait isn't bad.
There is no limit
rasky
I know there is not a limit to the number of times you can frequent one place. I am almost positive they don't take reservations.
JeannieC
I don't think a reservation is needed. We had troubles one night getting a seat in one of the restaurants, so we waited until the next day and went.
MeFitz
We made our reservations when we got there they tell you to have it done before two o'clock and we made our reservations all at once and there was no limit on what restaurant we ate at.
PEGGY33
Reservations are not accepted for the restaurants. Later dinner times is your best bet... i.e. 8'sh. You can eat at any of the restaurants as many times as you would like. May I suggest the Indian restaurant? It's very good! In the Italian restaurant...don't order the calamari (ick). Also, the burgers on the beach are amazing!! A must have if you eat meat. I don't like burgers but had one every day:-)
Indianapolis
Check with the front desk when you check in on whether you can make reservations or not - not sure if everyone can. We were celebrating our 25th anniversary - which we informed them of ahead of time - and they gave us a special RED wrist band - which supposedly let us make reservations.... We did it once. The other nights we just showed up, in some cases we had a little wait - not too bad - one time we decided to head to a different restaurant due to a 30 minute wait....
No limit to how many time you eat at any restaurants! Food was fabulous. We did not have a bad meal OR DESERT!

which room has the jaquzzi?11 answers
this package comes with the jr. suite and that does not say it has one but the upgrade (one bed room suite) states in the description that it has one in the bathrooms. i have seen the one bedroom suites on youtube and there were no jaquzzis but i saw a studio with one. well all in all i have no idea, all i want is a jaquzzi.

The Jr. Suites have a very large bathtub with jets. I guess it is not a real jacuzzi but we enjoyed it. It is larger than a regular tub.

Hey Tina,

Agent2014
Not sure if Jr. Suites have jacuzzis, but the Villa suites definitely have oversized 2-person jacuzzis; as well as an outdoor private shower. Worth the upgrade!
NVanDe
We had one in the (king)one bedroom suite inside the bathroom.
ChuckE
We just came back from the Lady Hamilton a few weeks ago and stayed in a Jr. Suite. Ours had a a jaquzzi in the bathroom and was medium size (great for one person...a bit tight for two). I think the bigger suites come with a jaquzzi twice the size of the Jr. Suites.

The resort offers shows and games in the theater nightly. There is also the Boogie Woogie night club, which is air-conditioned and is open from 11pm-2am. How many people are at the club and out and about at night can vary greatly depending on the current clientele at any given time, however.

Poor. the casino is nothing. The dance club is empty and the live music isn't always very good. There are shows nightly, but we missed them all because we were stuck in restaurants.

Non-existent really. Everything starts to shut down at 11 - I guess if you are up at 7 a.m. in the sun that it's hard to last into the night. There is a disco that is open until 1 a.m. but nothing spectacular.

The Grand Palladium Jamaica and Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton are the same resort with two separate buildings. Both sides of this resort have shared amenties. The biggest difference is the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton offers Suites that are adults only.
MeganCC
This resort is so huge that we didn't walk over to the Grand Palladium side really. I did see the villas, they seemed to be the same as the Lady Hamilton side from the outside, the Grand Palladium side backs up to the main road whereas the Lady Hamilton side is more along the beach and closer to the restaurants and pool, it is definitely more quiet and private.
dani26
Nothing really. It is really one big resort.
Stoneman527
Both of the properties are actually connected and within comfortable walking distance. Overall, there seems to be more stuff on the Lady Hamilton side. I'm glad we stayed on the LH side b/c that's where the beaches are, the Jerk Hut, the Spa, and a majority of the restaurants.

You're waisting money staying at this hotel! Customers service is horrible! By far, the worst hotel experience in Jamaica! Claims to be 5 star but more like 2 star! Don't stay here!
We visited numerous all inclusives in Jamaica, but the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton & Jamaica is by far the worst customer service experience you'll have if you stay there - so DON'T! The hotel is ridiculously huge and it has 2 sides: Jamaica ("the regular hotel side") and Lady Hamilton ("the upscale hotel side"/ "travel club" side/ more expensive side). This was the first time we had ever stayed at a Grand Palladium and it will definitely be the last! We stayed on the Lady Hamilton side and our room was dirty! The bathroom itself was spacious and had great potential but the housekeeper could care less about cleaning! Despite having an infant and another young child, the front desk put us in a hotel room (room #4018) that was literally in the farthest building (bldg. 40) from the main part of the hotel. This meant that every time we wanted to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner, OR take the kids to the kid pool, we had to call and request a shuttle because otherwise it would be a 15 minute walk with an infant, carseat, baby bag, etc. This may have been doable had the shuttle service guys not been so LAZY and not wanting to do their job to actually come and pick you up. I mean, all you have to do is ride around on a cart all day and shuttle guests across this massive hotel property - and you get tipped every time! LAZY is the only way to describe this shuttle service! Everytime we left an evening show or dinner, we would walk up the shuttle desk in the lobby and request a shuttle from the main building back to our room (the farthest hotel bldg), but despite having at least 3 or 4 empty carts sitting at the entrance of the lobby, and 3 or 4 shuttle drivers standing around the shuttle desk, the shuttle desk person would say, "have a seat and a shuttle will take you to your room in a few minutes." LAZY! After putting up with this laziness for 5 nights, on night 6 after being told this same foolishness (sit and wait for someone to feel like they want to do their job), we took a seat to wait as we were told and we observed 3 or 4 shuttle drives to include a lead driver laughing and joking without having any concerns for actually trying to get a shuttle for us to return to our room. We also observed a slender darker skinned security guy having an inappropriate romantic conversation with one of the guest - again nobody had any concern for us getting a shuttle to our room although we had an infant and another young child! Livid with this complete disregard for customer service, I inquired about the need to wait given the empty carts and the assumed available shuttle drivers. I actually asked Shuttle guy, Randy (as he had on a different shirt/clothing than the other shuttle drivers and was presumed to be the supervisor or lead driver), Randy basically just blew us off while learning back on the railing in a laid back/"don't bother me" position and literally waived us off with his hand signaling to leave him alone while another heavier darkskin guy in shuttle clothes (brown khaki and white) tried to tell us that the reason that the shuttles were not moving is because they did not have any lights and could not operate at night. Perhaps had I not seen several shuttles working with lights during the week, I may have been inclined to believe this lie! In the event that this was true (the shuttles didn't have lights), then the Grand Palladium should be ashamed to have such a a huge hotel which makes a lot, a lot of money, but cannot afford to service and maintain sufficient shuttle service to ensure its guests are well cared for and comfortable. Both the shuttle service and Grand Palladium must do better! Further, the heavier dark-skinned guy said there were 2 shuttles working that night for for the whole property, but in fact there was only 1 shuttle working. While we were making our complaint at the shuttle desk, the 1 working shuttle arrived with 4 ladies aboard. Just before we left on the shuttle, a heavier set security guard made a deal with the 4 ladies that were already on the shuttle to transport them to a club for 3,100 Jamaican dollars. These 4 ladies (from Virginia Beach, Virginia) needed to go back to their room to get their identification for the club that they were planning to attend, so the shuttle driver made it priority to drive them to building 13, 14, and 15 and told them that he would be right back to pick them up. THIS IS WHY NOBODY ELSE CAN BE PICKED UP BECAUSE THE SHUTTLES ARE BEING USED TO TRANSPORT SINGLE LADIES AND MAKE DEALS FOR PERSONAL EXCHANE!. As the shuttle driver left building 13, 14, and 15, he got a call on the radio to stop back by the lobby where he had just picked us up. As we arrived at the lobby, the first thing the lobby security said to the shuttle driver, "Where the girls dem day?" In patwa (translated as "Where are the girls?") Hearing this, on the spot, I expressed just how upset I was that the heavier set security guy called the shuttle back to the lobby for his own personal gain to locate some ladies to party as we were still waiting to be shuttled back to our room with an infant and another young child onboard. The heavier set security guy tried to lie and say that someone needed to be picked up from the lobby, but I called him out on this lie as nobody was waiting in the lobby and nobody got on the shuttle. I advised each of them that we would be writing a negative review on this foolishness!
Aside from poor shuttle service, the beach is super small and the water is not clear and pretty as you will get in Ochis Rios or Negril. The beach is rocky and not recommended! The large pool is meant to make up for the poor beach, but it too left a lot to be desired! There was absolutely No Shade while you were in this large pool - TERRIBLE! The bar staff were All Terrible except for Rodney (older brown skinned man)! They should all be fired for lack of customer service!
The waitresses/ waiters in the main dining restaurants were ridiculous! All staff members with the exception of one, Brandon (young brown-skinned guy), should be fired and/or re-trained. Otherwise, none of them have any kind of training how to properly service guests dining in a restaurant. Room service was slow and again, didn't put forth the effort to help! I did have a good massage by Erica and I tipped her well. This massage was not enough to get me to return to this 2 star hotel service!

Dining options and local cuisine, especially special requests, are cultural differences and subject to change whenever and wherever you travel.
We cannot guarantee dining options. The resorts will work with you as best they can, but gluten free meal requests cannot be as readily met as vegetarian meal requests.

Is there shuttle service from the airport to the resort and back to the airport?7 answers
6 years, 81 months ago
Interested Vacationer
Round-trip airport transfers may be added to your reservation for an additional cost.
CoryCC
Yes, you have the option to buy the roundtrip shuttle when you book your trip or just go to the Jamaica Tours Limited (JTL)desk in the airport.
snowhater
No shuttle is offered by the resort. You would have to book your travel if you want it done. But upon arrival there a quite a few taxi's. We used Mrs. Ruth Lawrence and she charged for 2 people $60 one way. Online it was $80-100 one way.
MzQuya
Yes but it typically costs $25 for each person (that's round trip, which is cheap)
oceangirl3886
Yes there is, my husband and I took a private car versus the bus which was an hour away from airport. You can arrange through your travel agency.

The Lady Hamilton is more expensive than the Jamaica side, is it worth paying the difference?5 answers
6 years, 81 months ago
Confused
The Lady Hamilton side offers an adults only room category so it can very well be a bit quieter on property than on the Jamaica side.
MariaCC
Not really sure, can't really answer that because I didn't look into.the Jamacia Side.
Millioniare
Yes, it is worth it! The other resorts we saw do not compare.
Kendra
its the same but you are closer to the adult pool the adult beach and sports beach and spa/gym with the lady hamilton then on the other side
jack74
This is hard to answer since I didn't see the rooms in the Jamaica side. All the buildings from the outside looked similar. All the ammenities are shared - pools, bars and restaurants so no advantage there. The Lady Hamiliton side is closer to the beach and adult pool and the boat rentals. THat said if you don't mind a few minute walk its not that big of a difference.
Suzie5
We stayed on the Lady Hamilton side and we understand that the rooms were a little nicer. Regardless where you stay, you have access to the entire resort and will share amenities.

What is the beach like at this resort? Is it walkable? How is the snorkeling?
6 years, 74 months ago
patty
This resort is located on the breathtaking blue waters of the Jamaican coast.
MariaCC
Hi Patty, the beach is not fantastic. There are really 2 beach areas and the best one is on the Lady Hamilton side where the watersports are located. The beach is walkable, but there is not a lot of beach to wallk on and I would recommend water shoes. There is a 7-mile beach in Negril which is about 45 minutes away and we hear that is really nice. Snorkling from the beach is ok...there are some reefs, but nothing outstanding.
PalladiumReviewer
There are three beaches that I saw. Maybe more the resort is awesome. We took a ten minute boat ride and saw so much for 25 a piece. Lion fish sting rays and a million other colorful fish. Bring water shoes some rocks here and there.

Beautiful beaches. a bit rocky so bring beach shoes. Snorkling at the adult beach is the best. never had a problem getting a sun chair.

CKLCSTL
Yes, but be careful. There were none available the first 2 days we were there, which put us quite far from our friends that we booked with. And when we did get an "Ocean View" room, we had a glimpse of the coves through vegetation via our main-floor patio. This resort is situated on fingers, with coves between each finger and villas on the "fingers". This makes some of the beaches in the coves adorable, but not exactly an "ocean view", especially at ground level.

ClevelandRocks
yes, some nights are for kids, and later ones for adults. wonderful shows
pricedriven
Most of the nightly entertainment is at their sister resort, The Royalton. They have shows every night at 9 pm at an indoor theater and once a week they have a really fun dance party on the beach at 9 pm. That resort is about a 5 minute walk from Memories (or you can take the tram). We went to 3 of the shows and the dance party and really enjoyed all of them. The Michael Jackson show and circus show (more like an acrobatic show) were really fun. There is also a disco and casino at the Royalton but we did not use those. At Memories, they did have some live music outside the Social Bar area and karaoke on occasion but not much else in terms of nightly entertainment. Hope this helps!

No! They're first come first serve, so if you don't want to wait, get there right when they open at 5:30 ;)

You can only make reservations if you are part of the "travel club" (meaning you bought the time share package). But if you go to dinner a little early/late, you can walk right in. If not (like if you go right at 7pm), you will wait 30-90 min. However, they give you a pager and point you to the closest bar where you can wait or you are free to walk around the resort until your pager goes off.

It is complimentary but slow and spotty. We could not get it at all in Villa 40, which is the farthest villa on the property. We moved to a slightly closer villa on day 3 and it was spotty there. Even at the pool by the main building it was touch-and-go. For example, I tried to look some things up on my phone and kept getting hung-up during the search or dropped all-together. This is not a good resort for singles. It is family friendly so there are LOTS of families. My boyfriend and I went here and a few days into our vacation they put a family with a screaming baby next door to us so if you like to party and sleep in late, you won't be able to do that here! Also, if you like to party, this is not the resort for you!! The entertainment is not great and there is only one dance club that doesn't open until around 11 so you might find yourselves bored until there is any partying to be done!!

I would confirm with hotel but the couple we traveled with had a suite and it was a room with a door and the bathroom was outside the room with a seperate door as well. They had a baby with them so it allowed for them to stay up in the other room and but the baby to sleep.

can I bring my own cup5 answers
I know that the cups that are provided at the bar are sometimes really small, so in order to avoid multiple trips to see the bartender, could I bring my own cup and have them fill it up?

The resort will generally allow this as long as it's not glass. However, for specific policies, please contact the resort as this can vary and is subject to change.

Yes you can sunbath women had tops off im not sure about bottoms
Apple4141
Ive been twice and have never seen any topless women at any part of the resort.
JDANDCORN
No, because as I said in my review, there are children on that side all the time. As a matter of fact I don't consider it actually having an adult only side. I booked Lady Hamiliton because I thought it was the adult side, but a lot of families stayed on that side while I was there and they were in the adult pools. As a matter of fact there was bus loads of families staying on that side while I was there. One bus had 80 Church members including families from somewhere on the island. I was told that the only different is that Lady Hamiliton side is suppose to be more updated. The suites are hugh and nice.

Depends what you mean by top shelf. Most of the bars did not have the better brands but SOME had Absolut, Tangeray; Bacardi; Johnny Walker Red; Jim Beam. Definitely no Grey Goose, Belvedere, Makers Mark, etc. To my taste, it was definitely not top shelf but better than some other all inclusive places. Most bars had Stoli or Smirnoff vodka. The only beer I saw was Red Stripe. The minibar in room had Bud Light and Red Stripe in cans.

Yes, however, choices are limited

You will only be able to do this at the hotel. They wouldn't honor any requests via email/phone. When you get there ask the front desk what they can offer--unfortunately it will depend on the staff person you get. Some of them act like they don't want to be there sadly.
I saw a room door that had a happy birthday sash on it--not sure if hotel did that or the person brought it tho.
