Really enjoyed this vacation

We have really enjoyed our vacation at this resort. The pools, the beach and resort itself are outstanding. The service was good. My only complaint is that, if you have food allergies, you should rely only on yourself, there are no lists of ingredients and no one understands this problem. Other than that everything was superb.

Honeymoon Getaway

We originally booked The Royal Suites (TRS) Yucatán for our honeymoon. However the resort is under major remodel. The travel agent contacted us and gave us the option of staying in Kantenah or Colonial on the Grand Palladium side of the resort. We chose Kantenah with The Royal Suites option for that side of the resort. Our private transportation booked through amstar was very professional, we were given bottled water at the curb which was very refreshing. Upon arrival to the resort the bellboys were very professional and quick with securing our luggage until check in was completed. At check in, the concierge Dulce, was more than accommodating. A refreshing welcome drink of a Pina Colada was delivered to us right after we sat and started the check in process. A cool refreshing towel was also given to us to cool down after traveling half the day (we traveled from New England). We were notified that we could be moved to the adults only side on day three for the grand opening of TRS, which is the side of the resort we originally booked. We were thrilled that we were able to do this. We were banded and ate lunch and by that time is was after 3pm and our room was ready on the Kantenah side. We were placed in an Oceanside villa on the beach. In villa 34. The beach is a bit of a hybrid, you overlook a junglish atmosphere with cabanas and hammocks, however the ocean is a quick 1 minute walk from our villa porch. We were in a Mayan Suite with private outdoor shower. The room itself was beautifully decorated, a smidge dated, but nice amenities. Our A/C in the room wasn’t adjustable, this is the reason for the 4 palms on the room, but the overhead fan provided constant cooling. We were greeted in our room by towel animal swans and robes and slippers, which were a lovely touch. While we were at dinner the first night a bouquet a roses was delivered to our coffee table, a lovely touch since it was our honeymoon. The mini bar was stocked nicely and hard alcohol was provided, although we didn’t indulge while we were in the room. The water pressure at this resort was excellent as well, with a compound this big, we were worried because we have stayed at resorts in the past that the water pressure has been disappointing, but it was excellent. The restaurants and bars were wonderful. We experienced great service and if there was something that we wanted that they didn’t have, the waiters were more than accommodating. Making a reservation with the concierge is the best way to guarantee entry into the specialty restaurants, but we did walk in 3/6 nights and the most we waited was 25 minutes for a table. The pools were very clean. They were constantly attended by various employees testing for ph and scrubbing and cleaning. The barkeep were very nice and while we were in the jacuzzi center of the adult pools, they were very attentive in asking if we needed any beverages. The golf cart service was excellent. The resort compound was huge, and although there were walking paths and docks through the mangroves connecting the resorts, some points during our stay we took a golf cart ride to various parts of the resort. They were always prompt and friendly. Beach- wow. It was beautiful. Sand was swept in the am and there were plenty of loungers, hammocks, beds, etc for guests. We had TRS bands and only walked through the private area inclusive to TRS, but never stayed. It was very lovely. Well kept and private waiters to attend to TRS guests. Day Three- venture to TRS side. Check in was very unique. You can tell once you travel to this side of the resort that there is a different vibe. It’s very luxurious and posh. There were red carpets rolled out as it was their grand opening. A rose for my wife and champagne greeted us as we checked in. There was a bit of a delay at check in, but they had their to be expected first day quirks. We weren’t bothered by it. The concierge was very nice and made great conversation while multiple IT professionals helped fix the computer glitches. We were prompted that construction would still be going on during our stay as probably only 25% of TRS was done. We took a private, exclusive golf cart for TRS side to our room. Special mention of Romeo. He was an excellent chauffeur. We were on an ocean side villa, villa 67, however our room was jungle facing. My wife was disappointed of this since we were ocean side on Kantenah, but with the construction happening it ended up being a blessing in disguise that we were jungle facing. We were on the third floor, walk up. Upon arrival to our room the door was open and our two butlers were inside inspecting the room. The room had two lights that hadn’t been finished above the sinks, and our day butler Victor (fantastic- seriously.... this guy needs a promotion, he’s great) was very apologetic and somewhat embarrassed that they weren’t finished. We didn’t mind, and the lights were fixed while we were at breakfast the next am. Our night butler Fatima was also very attentive and friendly. TRS Junior Suite Room- Beautiful. The ac was fantastic in this room. Everything about the room was state of the art. From the electronic ‘do not disturb/housekeeping needed’ module on the wall, to the interactive tv (which did have a glitch the first night into the am- but this was quickly fixed) the room was very modern and sleek. The pillow menu was great as both my wife and I do not care for feather down pillows, so memory foam pillows were provided. Mini bar was stocked well and every evening for turn down we were greeted with honey suckle and a pillow mint for bed. The shower was fantastic and the towels on this side of the resort were more plush and luxurious. Everything was open concept in the room, the only thing we didn’t care for was there was no closet to stick your luggage in, and our suitcases were too wide to fit under the bed, so we stashed it under the counter, but we had to look at it the whole trip. Not a big deal. My wife travels with picture of our two dogs. The last evening we stayed when we returned from dinner we found two wrapped gifts and a note from our butlers. They had provided two gifts for our puppies, adorable collars. We were so touched by this. The room was cleaned impeccably each morning and evening. Helios Beach Club- Beautiful infinity pool. All granite, brand new and beautiful. The pool manager Edgar was fantastic, from arriving at the pool he greeted and helped us find pool loungers and provided us with towels, again those plush, nicer than the other side of the resort towels. The bar at the Helios was great. They had light refreshments that were made to order and delivered to you. The liquor selection on this side of the resort was also better than the other side. The bartender Toby needs special mention. He was fantastic. Super friendly, my wife and I took to him from the minute we arrived to the Helios Beach Club. Very personable. Encouraged us to sample different liquors and cocktails that The Beach Club had to offer. We really enjoyed him and his expertise in the liquor. As we sat in the pool and lounged, we could hear as they had construction on the surrounding villas, but this was as to be expected as we were alerted when we checked in. On the fourth day of TRS being open, you could hear less and less of it as the workers moved down the villas. The pool had activities that we didn’t partake in, we were there to relax and spend time with one another, but the resort goers who did participate in the water aerobics and pool side dancing looked like they were enjoying themselves. La Terraza Pool- A hidden gem. This pool is on TRS side in between the lobby and ocean side villas. Not many people knew it was open, and we sat at the pool the majority of the time. The bartenders Carlos and Carlos need special mention here. They were funny, speedy and attentive. They delivered special shots that they crafted and every one that we divulged in, were great. This pool was super clean and the area was quiet and construction noise free. It is a pool meant for relaxation, though there was no music. Some soft music would have made it perfect, but it was a great place to spend the day. Lots of iguanas hanging out in the sun at this pool, they never bothered anyone and they were fun to experience. This pool also had light refreshments offered on the weekend, great to have a bite without venturing to the beach club or main restaurant. Capriche Restaurant- Beautiful. Newly renovated and exclusive to TRS. Hostesses greeted and brought you to your table. They were lovely every morning we had breakfast. The tasting bar was big and expansive. Many options! Our favorites every morning were the croinuts, croissants filled with chocolate and cappuccinos. Be sure to ask for the coffee with warmed milk, it was delicious. The wait time with the meals varied, but the food was delicious. Worth the wait! TRS Lobby bar- We would like to make special mention of Lucy, one of the waitresses. She was lovely. Very professional and sweet, would bring us drinks as we sat in the lobby and talked and brought snacks as well. They had a different tasting in the lobby area every night too, from tequila to gin and tonics to sangria. It was a great experience. We couldn’t help to notice how much pride the housekeeping staff take in the lobby. They were always diligently working to keep it clean and sparkling. Overall- What a great experience! We really enjoyed this resort. The size, the variety, the staff wanting to make every minute of your experience enjoyable without being too intrusive was something we really appreciated and enjoyed. We are planning on returning next November for our anniversary and we are very excited to see the rest of TRS resort. With this stay being the grand opening and only having 25% of the resort completed, we can’t imagine how awesome it’s going to be once it’s 100% completed. Until next year TRS!

Great facility, mediocre food

If you are looking for a reasonably priced ocean front location with great pool facilities and beach....this could be your best bet. The grounds were very nice and maintained very well. The food on the other hand was mediocre. Not terrible by any means, just ultimately not pleasing. Especially frustrating was they do spend money on ample food but just do a poor job of preparing it and keeping it fresh for consumption. Cruises do a much better job at keeping the food hot & fresh. The restaurants are slightly better than the buffets but again will not impress. Open bars are good and bar tenders do try and please. Wish they had better beer selections....even other Mexican beers would be good. Room service was actually a big plus. Again, beautiful facility and will recommend to others, just set food expectations lower than most cruise lines. PS: Tips of $1 are appreciated. Difficult to get change when down there so suggest getting your change before going.

A lovely hotel that is great for all!

We loved our stay at Kantenah. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were comfortable and the pools were very relaxing. This is a great hotel for everyone, whether you have kids or not and I can't wait for my next trip here. Only thing is I wish there was an option for food after 11 pm.

What's to Love

It's all-inclusive and all-aahmazing - a beachtastic wonderland.

All the restaurants are reservation-free. You can show up on your own schedule.

The Zentropia spa with Swedish massage & the cold bath "eco-meditative" treatment. Brace yourself.

Relaxing in the hammock area and booze snoozing it for an afternoon.

The food options - if you're gluten-free or have allergies they've got a special menu.

Hanging out at the turtle nesting area - you'll love these sweet little babies.

What We'd Change

Your legs might hurt after all the walking you'll do here, but the beautiful 300-acre property and all the perks that come with booking make it too good to pass up.

Why You Should Go

It's 50 miles south of Cancun airport. It's a drive, but when you arrive, you won't want to leave.

The grounds are massive, so you'll be hoofing it a lot, but there are shuttles to cart you around.

You get four resorts for the price of one - three other Grand Palladiums are a coconut's throw away.

Bring water shoes. Most of the beach is great, but it's rocky where you might want to snorkel.

Six tennis courts along with wave after wave of water sports like kayaking, water polo & more.

Resort Update
Palladium Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to upgrade its Riviera Maya Complex throughout 2017, including incorporating the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa into The Royal Suites Yucatan. This transformation will be completed in various phases starting on June 1, 2017. Construction will mostly take place within the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa and will have minimal impact. All guestrooms within the hotel, the rocky walkway along the water & the salt water pool area will be closed to all guests during the completion of the project. All other areas including the Riviera Lobby, Disco & Theatre, El Jardin Restaurant and the current The Royal Suites Lobby will be closed during certain dates listed below. During times of closure, the areas will not be accessible to guests and should therefore not impact the guest experience.

Below is a complete project timeline:

Disco & Theatre:
June 1-November 1, 2017: Construction will be in progress in the Disco and Theatre of the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa. During this time, alternate entertainment venues will be provided to guests. Once construction to the Disco and Theatre are complete, the Disco will convert to become one of four exclusive restaurants available to guests of The Royal Suites Yucatan and the Theatre will become the second exclusive restaurant providing guests with a Dinner and Show themed experience referred to as the Cabaret.

Riviera Lobby and Kabah Buffet:
June 1-September 15, 2017: Construction will be in progress at the current Riviera Lobby which will convert to the new The Royal Suites Lobby. Guests will not be affected by this construction since all guestrooms in Riviera will be closed. All hotel services will be available at the adjoining White Sand, Colonial and Kantenah Lobbies.

Construction will also be in progress at the Kabah Buffet. During this time, breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available at La Laguna as well as the other restaurants within the Riviera Maya Complex.

The renovated Kabah Buffet will feature 2 separate sections (1 buffet exclusively available to guests of The Royal Suites and 1 for guests of Grand Palladium).

El Jardin Restaurant & the current The Royal Suites Lobby:
September 16-December 1, 2017: Construction will be in progress at El Jardin restaurant and the current lobby of The Royal Suites. The current lobby for The Royal Suites will convert into 2 separate a la carte restaurants. By this time, the new lobby for The Royal Suites will be open at its new location and the buffet will be available at Kabah.

Environmental Levy Fee
The Municipalidad of Solidaridad in the Rivera Maya is one of the most beautiful places in the Mexican Caribbean. Tourism has been instrumental in driving the economic and social development of the region. In an effort to continue to preserve, conserve and beautify the destination, the Municipality of Solidaridad has implemented a small environmental levy on visitors effective September 1, 2017. Hotels will collect 20 Mexican pesos per room per day on check out; the proceeds will be deposited in an environmental trust to fund local projects. The Municipalidad of Solidaridad thanks you for your understanding and support of this worthwhile endeavor. Thank you and enjoy your visit.
