Romance Suite at Grand Palladium Kantenah

The resort is absolutely gorgeous. Every floor and counter top is made of stone. Everywhere you look is glass, marble, and luscious greenery. And water. Huge pools, fountains, beautiful white sand beaches, ponds full of fish next to marble walkways. The hotel lobbies, restaurants, etc get progressively fancier the closer you get to the TRS side and they are all quite lovely. There are lots of animals, especially iguanas. The overwhelming majority of the staff was very helpful and clearly wanted us to have a good experience, even from the moment we arrived. The resort is very clean. What's the point of all that pretty glass and marble if it doesn't shine? We saw people cleaning the surfaces often. They cleaned our room pretty thoroughly, too. Once we came back while they were cleaning and there was a lady scrubbing our once used tub. We were lucky enough to get a suite facing the ocean and we could glimpse bits of it through the palms. On the balcony we could hear the waves crashing as well as music from the beach bar when it was open. Inside the room, we didn't hear anything except for an occasional neighbor's chair scraping the floor. The room itself was comfortable and of course the bathroom is great in the romance suite. We loved the private outdoor shower. The TV could be angled toward the bed or love seat and had channels in English and Spanish. My only complaint with the room is that the air conditioner turned off automatically after a period of no movement. Most of the time that isn't too bad, you just make sure you come in and close the door and move around enough to make it start as soon as you come back. Maybe turn it down a few degrees lower than usual to cool it off faster if you're gone all day. One time it stopped while we were sleeping and that was annoying. The beaches were gorgeous. Sometimes there was a lot of seaweed, which made the water murky and not so great for snorkeling or photos. Of course, the resort can't be blamed for that. On those days, we went to nearby cenotes or Tulum or hung out by one of the many pools. So it didn't cramp our vacation at all. Sometimes at busy times of day, it was hard to find really good places to sit by the beach or pool, but even then seating was possible, just not exactly where you wanted. Bar service got slow then too, unsurprisingly. Seating, bar service, etc get significantly better if you join the travel club or are in TRS. Unless you're by the beautiful Infinity pool, because everyone is special over there so no one is special. lol But if you just sit somewhere over there, someone will eventually serve you tasty beverages. BTW the best margaritas I've ever had were at this resort. We were also fond of the tropical mango drinks. My other half tells me that the beer wasn't cold enough anywhere but TRS where they actually let him drink Sol from the glass bottle. On to the food, which for the most part was delicious and plentiful but is also where I have complaints. The good: the breakfast buffets were all very good, even better at TRS. The pastry selections were especially pleasing. I was particularly fond of the chocolate croissants. The steaks seemed a pretty good quality. The mahi at Ribs and More is the best I've had. The room service was always there in 45 minutes or less. The lunch buffet at Grand Azul was always good and was the only buffet you could just grab your food and sit down. There was tons of salads and fresh fruit at all buffets and lots of good desserts at every restaurant, buffet or a la carte. All of the servers were very nice and tried to make sure we were happy. But there were some definite downfalls. It took forever to be seated if you didn't have a reservation unless you went as soon as dinner started. Even at most of the buffets you had to wait to be seated. The really annoying thing was, lots of times you were looking at several clean and empty tables that stayed vacant for way too long. I don't know if they just need to hire a few more people or what, but it was very annoying. Another thing that bothered me is that they have a number of cards for allergies and various dietary restrictions, but not for vegetarian or pescatarian (vegetarian but eats seafood). Or vegan for that matter. I haven't eaten land meat in over a decade. As such, I could get sick from accidentally eating even just a bit of bacon fat. Had I not been more careful, I'd have eaten a few things I shouldn't. Like sushi. Who puts bacon in sushi?? There were lots of things I just didn't eat on the buffets because I didn't know what was in them. For another thing, every time I tried to eat butter, it was margarine. I couldn't stand to eat the mashed potatoes on the buffet because they tasted like margarine. I asked for real butter for a baked potato (which I had already sent back because it had something that looked like bacon on it) and was brought margarine. There was no real butter on the buffets but there were 2 kinds of margarine. Even at Chic, the fancy "butter" with herbs and such for the bread was margarine based. I do not eat margarine in my house, why would I pay so much to eat it in Mexico? There were also a few times where menu items were translated badly (like saying grilled when it should've been baked or fried when it should've been sautéed). While I did find some of the food issues very annoying, I think next time I will have more accurate expectations of such situations. The issues relating to my pescatarian dietary needs are common for me. Now that we know we can make reservations as Travel Club members, I will try to do that. Our overall experience was positive and we will be returning to this and other Grand Palladiums. I would also suggest that a better list of Travel Club perks is made up and given to those who sign up. All that happens so fast, it become difficult to recall all the amenities we acquired when we became members.

Overall it was a nice resort. I wish the information about the other resorts that were available was clearer. The pools and spa were wonderful, but the beach was covered in seaweed. Also the spa tried to charge me for someone else's bill, which clearly was not me. I had to wait 20 mins at check out to clear it up.

I loved the resort. Only downfall was my refrigerator in my room did not work at all and it was never fixed. The bathroom sink drain was very clogged and this was never fixed even after expressing concerns about it. There is no night life on this resort. All activities are basically shut down at midnight except for bars and pools. The staff was amazing! I have never received such great service. Everyone was nice and eager to please. I had the time of my life! There were a few bumps but i would definitely stay again.

What's to Love

It's all-inclusive and all-aahmazing - a beachtastic wonderland.

All the restaurants are reservation-free. You can show up on your own schedule.

The Zentropia spa with Swedish massage & the cold bath "eco-meditative" treatment. Brace yourself.

Relaxing in the hammock area and booze snoozing it for an afternoon.

The food options - if you're gluten-free or have allergies they've got a special menu.

Hanging out at the turtle nesting area - you'll love these sweet little babies.

What We'd Change

Your legs might hurt after all the walking you'll do here, but the beautiful 300-acre property and all the perks that come with booking make it too good to pass up.

Why You Should Go

It's 50 miles south of Cancun airport. It's a drive, but when you arrive, you won't want to leave.

The grounds are massive, so you'll be hoofing it a lot, but there are shuttles to cart you around.

You get four resorts for the price of one - three other Grand Palladiums are a coconut's throw away.

Bring water shoes. Most of the beach is great, but it's rocky where you might want to snorkel.

Six tennis courts along with wave after wave of water sports like kayaking, water polo & more.

Resort Update
Palladium Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to upgrade its Riviera Maya Complex throughout 2017, including incorporating the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa into The Royal Suites Yucatan. This transformation will be completed in various phases starting on June 1, 2017. Construction will mostly take place within the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa and will have minimal impact. All guestrooms within the hotel, the rocky walkway along the water & the salt water pool area will be closed to all guests during the completion of the project. All other areas including the Riviera Lobby, Disco & Theatre, El Jardin Restaurant and the current The Royal Suites Lobby will be closed during certain dates listed below. During times of closure, the areas will not be accessible to guests and should therefore not impact the guest experience.

Below is a complete project timeline:

Disco & Theatre:
June 1-November 1, 2017: Construction will be in progress in the Disco and Theatre of the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa. During this time, alternate entertainment venues will be provided to guests. Once construction to the Disco and Theatre are complete, the Disco will convert to become one of four exclusive restaurants available to guests of The Royal Suites Yucatan and the Theatre will become the second exclusive restaurant providing guests with a Dinner and Show themed experience referred to as the Cabaret.

Riviera Lobby and Kabah Buffet:
June 1-September 15, 2017: Construction will be in progress at the current Riviera Lobby which will convert to the new The Royal Suites Lobby. Guests will not be affected by this construction since all guestrooms in Riviera will be closed. All hotel services will be available at the adjoining White Sand, Colonial and Kantenah Lobbies.

Construction will also be in progress at the Kabah Buffet. During this time, breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available at La Laguna as well as the other restaurants within the Riviera Maya Complex.

The renovated Kabah Buffet will feature 2 separate sections (1 buffet exclusively available to guests of The Royal Suites and 1 for guests of Grand Palladium).

El Jardin Restaurant & the current The Royal Suites Lobby:
September 16-December 1, 2017: Construction will be in progress at El Jardin restaurant and the current lobby of The Royal Suites. The current lobby for The Royal Suites will convert into 2 separate a la carte restaurants. By this time, the new lobby for The Royal Suites will be open at its new location and the buffet will be available at Kabah.

Environmental Levy Fee
The Municipalidad of Solidaridad in the Rivera Maya is one of the most beautiful places in the Mexican Caribbean. Tourism has been instrumental in driving the economic and social development of the region. In an effort to continue to preserve, conserve and beautify the destination, the Municipality of Solidaridad has implemented a small environmental levy on visitors effective September 1, 2017. Hotels will collect 20 Mexican pesos per room per day on check out; the proceeds will be deposited in an environmental trust to fund local projects. The Municipalidad of Solidaridad thanks you for your understanding and support of this worthwhile endeavor. Thank you and enjoy your visit.
