Not My Favorite

This was my 11th trip to Mexico. I am 26 years old and went on this vacation with my husband. I admit, I believe our expectations were too high and based off of our previous resorts. There were maybe two other American couples at the resort, all others were native. It seemed that all food was geared towards them. The only restaurants we were OK with were the White Box and Careyas (absolutely delicious and great service). Beyond that, people were kind. There was no AC the first day in our room and throughout our trip the elevators had issues. We only got "served" by the pool maybe twice, otherwise we were responsible for going and getting your own drinks. I wouldn't say that there was anything "wrong" with the resort, but I would not recommend it.

Hotel tried to price gouge my stranded friends!

I was traveling with two friends from South Florida who were stranded in Cancun for 3 days because of Hurricane Irma. The hotel was aware of the situation and told them the price for this very low-level hotel would be $550/night (we had paid $179/night for the vacation) and that this was a great discount!!! I managed to get them to come down to $250/night in the end but the whole transaction left such a bad impression that my friends ended up just moving to another much better hotel for even less money. Before the trip they had contacted Cheap Caribbean, who had informed them not to worry because the hotel offered "distressed passenger" rates for people in these situations, which was not the case. We spent hours on hold and talking to people at Cheap Caribbean while in Cancun, who did nothing to help my friends after promising to call them back and get it figured out. The Amstar rep at the hotel finally found them the cheaper/better hotel, but not until the morning they were scheduled to depart originally, adding much stress to the whole situation. Also the A/C at the hotel was broken for part of the trip and barely working the days it did work. Not a pleasant experience, although the wait staff at the hotel were very nice overall.

Disappointing, won't repeat

We just got back from the hotel. Spent 6 nights. The issues started the moment we checked in. I tried to reach the front desk, they did NOTHING on their end but were sending me back to cheapcaribbean. Cheapcaribbean replied with an email, because it was impossible to teach them although they left numbers to be called from Mexico but non of them worked so ai had to write an email. First- we purchased the Grand PLUS ocean view room which comes with a number of "perks", that turned out are non useable! 1. Access to restaurants that other rooms don't have access to- this is not quite true- the restaurants can also be used with everyone from this side of the hotel. Therefore the lines to dine in were HUGE! Two of the restaurants are ADULTS ONLY and on cheapcaribbean page ONLY one of them is noted to be so! 2. Access to a private beach club with Bali beds- again, nowhere is written that this perk is for ADULTS ONLY! 3. One day free rent of SMART car- this car is for TWO people only, and guess what- this is nowhere to be noted. So we ended up, being there with our two kids that we payed for something we can not use!!! I tried to call and then emailed cheapcaribbean to request my money back for the upgraded room- I only got a reply that someone from the hotel will contact me. I guess you already figured out that this just DID not happen. Meanwhile the problems continued! Because I addressed all the issues with the hotel, they called me "pretentious". I guess I am, since I want to receive what I payed money for and since it was a very disappointing experience and our kids were waiting for months for this vacation and were counting the weeks, days and hours before we go. And this is not all: I saved the "sweetest" part for a dessert for everyone that read till the end of my review: HYGIENE- people, don't go if you respect your health and well being. One time I was at one of the bars waiting for a cocktail, I almost passed out when I saw how they "wash" their plastic cups: They take it, put it for half a second in a container with a brush and soap, take it from there and put it in a big pan full of gross liquid- looking like beeer. Take it out, SHAKE off and put your drink in in!!! Yes, you are right- no water was involved in washing the cups. No rinsing from the gross liquid either!! When we asked them to rinse it with water, they refused!!! And you can see the soap and the beer looking liquid streaking down the cup. We addressed this immediately with the hotel management and I think they started to rinsing it off. But for how long you think?! We used personal plastic cups from "coffee and me" shop. If you don't believe me, just go there, go to one of the. Ars- the one by the pool or the one by the private beach club and just WATCH!!! I'm still waiting for cheapcaribbean to contact me and offer a solution for our ruined vacation but this just doesn't happen. P.S. Room looks good and comfortable if you don't count the HUGE COCKROACH we saw in the hallway by the elevators and we asked a staff member we saw to take care of it. Food also was not bad at all, restaurants are good if you can manage it to make a reservation before they are full.

We had high expectations

Looking at all the reviews prior to booking this resort seemed great for both children and adults. It turned out it was mostly for locals, crazy packed with locals it seemed like the resort overbooked. The pools were crowded the restaurants were crowded. The trees hung over the pools, not a great idea, birds nesting and leaving their droppings in the pool we asked the staff if they could clean it up and no body came out to clean up the mess in the pool. Pool water was not refreshing always warm. If felt like sitting in a warm bath. We decided to get a day pass to their other resort, Grand Oasis Cancun and that was so much cleaner no locals. Great music and the families there were from all over the world and very friendly. Maybe Palm was just not for my family. So, would i go back to Palm resort, NO!
