Overall a Great Stay with a Few Fixable Issues (Chair Scam)
We recently stayed at Dreams Sands Resort and were pleasantly surprised, especially after reading some of the harsher reviews beforehand. It’s important to go in with realistic expectations—this is not a 5‑star luxury property, and if you expect 5‑star food and rooms, you’ll likely be disappointed. But if you’re looking for a smaller, easy‑to‑navigate resort with good food, warm service, and an incredible beach, it delivers. *Read Chair Scam at the End* Food & Restaurants The food was much better than some reviews claim. A few people said it was “inedible,” and that simply wasn’t our experience. • Mexican restaurant: the best on the property—every meal was delicious. • Olio (beach restaurant): our absolute favorite; we loved every single meal and ate here daily. • Preferred breakfast: consistently great. • Café: excellent coffee and really good crepes. • Overall: we always found something tasty, and the quality was far better than some reviews suggest. Rooms The rooms are clean with a great view, though fairly basic. The biggest issue was the shower—it leaked and the temperature swung from warm to scalding hot without warning. The fridge also wasn’t stocked unless we specifically asked. Pools • The Preferred pool is ice cold, which was disappointing. • The other pools are heated and much more enjoyable. • It also felt like more guests were Preferred than not, which made the “Preferred” perks feel a bit diluted. Beach The beach was the highlight of our trip—warm, shallow, and absolutely beautiful. One thing to note: the sun doesn’t hit the beach chairs until around 12:30–1:00 PM, so mornings are shaded. (February) Location The location of the resort is excellent. You’re close to restaurants, bars, malls, shops, and pharmacies—all within easy walking distance. It made everything incredibly convenient and added a lot to the overall experience. Service & Staff Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, but one person truly stood out: • Alicia, the hostess, deserves a huge shout‑out. She was warm, welcoming, and consistently kind. She made a big impression on us and was our favorite staff member by far. The Chair-Reservation Scam Unfortunately, we did experience one major issue that needs to be addressed. Gustavo, the beach towel attendant, was running a clear chair‑reservation scam. He told us that reserving chairs wasn’t allowed, yet almost all the good chairs were “reserved” by 7:00 AM. We later learned he was placing “personal items” from lost and found to make it look like guests had reserved them—then charging $45 USD per chair under the table to hold them for paying guests. We personally witnessed him at 10:00 AM walking guests to “their” reserved chairs, removing the fake personal items, and then standing there waiting for them to hand him cash. When we arrived earlier than him one morning and took chairs, he was visibly upset and tried to move us—likely because he had already promised those chairs to someone else. This behavior is unacceptable, especially for Preferred guests who are already paying extra. We truly hope Dreams Sands addresses this issue. Spa & Amenities • The spa hydrotherapy was great and reasonably priced. • The Preferred lounge was a nice place to relax in the evenings. • The resort is small, which we appreciated—no long walks or confusing layouts. Final Thoughts Despite a few frustrations, especially with the beach chair situation, we were overall pleased with our stay and would recommend the resort. The food was good, the beach was amazing, and the staff—especially Alicia—made us feel welcome. Some reviews made us nervous before arriving, but our experience was much more positive than expected. If you go in with realistic expectations, you’ll likely have a great time.

Lackluster accommodations with a great view
We are departing this morning after a short one-night stay. The staff has been attentive and courteous, but The resort itself simply does not meet our expectations. The resort declined any reimbursement or credit, so we are in a position where we are willing to forfeit our 3-night payment in order to stay a nicer resort. This resort is in need of improvements. Hot water temp fluctuates substantially while showering. Beds are worn out and not comfortable. Quality of craftsmanship (trim work, paint touch ups, cracked walls/tiles) throughout the resort is awful. The room safe automatically reset, and wouldn’t accept our password. Security had to come open it for us. Seemed like dead batteries, which is reasonable. The Articulating Bathroom mirror broke upon attempted use, I reported this to staff and am hoping that this doesn’t result in any backcharges. Elevator cab has two “door-open” buttons instead of one open and one close. If your room is on a lower level, just take the stairs. Elevator defaults from lobby to calls at upper floors first. Elevator cabs are very small and always full by the time the elevators makes it back down to the lower floors. If you are attentive to detail, don’t come here, it’ll drive you mad. The ocean view was fantastic, and again, the staff was nice.

Disappointing
I've been to several 5 star resorts over my lifetime, Dreams Sands was definitely not a 5 star resort. We certainly will not be back.

Family for the win!
We had the privilege of staying at the Dreams Sands with our family of 17 people. We came from all over the world and couldn't be more pleased with the people that hosted us. Charlie and Jamie from the entertainment team created memories that will last a lifetime for us. Charlie has never had saltier guacamole 😂 The food and hibachi show at the Japanese restaurant was the absolute best time; the food overall at all restaurants was delicious with lots of variety. Santiago at the buffet was so friendly and makes the most delicious cranberry mimosas:). Thank you to the whole team that made this family reunion holiday one for the books. Thank you all. We can't wait to return to you! ❤️ The area felt safe for our family to walk and explore. Thank you again everyone. We'll see you again soon.
