Great

Overall my boyfriend and I had a great time! We didn’t want to leave. The room we first had was spacious and nice. We decided to upgrade and they only had the Honeymoon sweet available. We decided to take it and it was well worth the price. Nespresso machine in the room and upgraded liquor since we were now on the preferred side. The view from our balcony was simply amazing. Directly on the ocean with a jacuzzi. Thankfully we were in the middle because our walls were high on each side. But if you had a corner balcony, everyone could see you. The restaurants were pretty good. The French was absolute favorite. We went back for 2 nights because it was that good. The Mexican restaurant was terrible!! The beach was horrific!!! Soooo much seaweed!!! The last day we decided to go in. We started to walk in the water and my boyfriend was bit by something. We immediately came out of the water and his foot was bleeding. A nice woman came up to me and asked if he had gotten but because she saw us. I told her yes. She said for us to go immediately to the lifeguards to get help because he was stung by a stingray. They need to soak his foot in vinegar and hot water to help get the venom out. She said the same thing happened to her the day before. As my boyfriend was in pain and getting this work done I asked the hotel staff if this happened often, they said not really. After his treatment another woman sitting close by asked if he had gotten stung from a stingray. The same thing happened to her 2 days prior and another gentleman she told me about. So that’s 4 people within 2 days. They should really have a sign warning people of this before they go in the water. The pool area was great. However I do agree with other reviews that kids should NOT be allowed in the main pool. There are 2 other separate pools for kids. So a little difficult trying to enjoy your drink in the pool when kids are doing cannonballs. Aside from the stingray and the kids in the main pool, I would recommend this resort. The entire staff was superb!!! Anyone you came in contact with was so friendly.

Beware of ‘Upgrades’

I was given an ‘upgrade’ without it being mentioned from a room with an ocean view. When I got to my room I had a view of a brick wall...but I had a plunge pool and jacuzzi. I asked to be moved to a room with the view I had booked. You’d have thought I had asked for a night with Miss Mexico! “Sir, you don’t understand, we’ve given you a free upgrade, you need to appreciate this”. Now matter how many times you try and tell me that it’s an uppgrade to look at a brick wall I’m not going to believe you. Several calls and visits to rececption later, I got the ocean view, all whilst my friends were actually getting to enjoy the resort. The servers were great, just a shame about my first experience of their resort. The rooms need some tlc. On the whole food wasn’t bad.

Gorgeous resort, not the best food or service.

I sponsored a corporate retreat for 45 people to Dreams Riviera Cancun. It was probably the prettiest resort I've ever been to. The infinity pool and beach scene with swim up bar was incredible. It is very spacious with very pretty rooms. We all had a fantastic time overall. However, here are my complaints: 1.) The food was pretty bad overall. The quality of vegetables and fruit was great, but the meat quality was very poor, even in the nice restaurants. Everyone in our 45 person group was excited to get back home to the states where we could get some really good food. Even the Mexican food is MUCH better back home in Virginia. Also - expect there to be several hours where no food is available at all unless you get room service. Even the main lunch spot is closed until 12:30 so if you wake up late at 11:00 and want to have some food, you are out of luck unless you want to sit in your room for an hour waiting for room service. Any of the "good" restaurants require a wait list and you will be surprised how unimpressive the experience is once you get there. Seriously every single restaurant was sub-par and this is coming from many peoples reviews in my group. The overall theme of the trip is that no one liked the food. 2.) The rooms were very pretty, but unfortunately the designer did a horrible job laying everything out and planning it to be good for most guests. The shower and toilet were right as you walk in the door and they both have semi-fogged transparency but completely clear on the sides. Basically you have to watch whoever you are rooming with brush their teeth as you take a crap. This was uncomfortable for all of our 45 guests. It doesn't matter if you are married or old college buddies. Wiping in front of each other is not fun, especially if you have people in your room. You also will probably find yourself in the shower while your room mate poops. You basically have to watch each other and it is very odd. The beds were terrible. I had shoulder pain the entire trip. Getting back to my own bed was the best part of coming home. The pillows were even worse than the beds. The balcony hot tub looks pretty gross and you would probably be risking a lot to use it. 3.) I was really not impressed with the service. I just came back from Couples Resort in Negril Jamaica, and the service was at least 10x better, if not more. I did not encounter a single person at Dreams that went out of their way to make sure we were happy or cared for. Most of them barely speak English and they seemed like they just wanted to do their jobs and go home. There are lots of people trying to sell you on BS time-share type programs and they did not give us a very warm vibe. Overall I was definitely surprised by the lack of real service. They don't do a very good job of controlling the vendors either... Everyone is trying to sell you something but they are not as friendly as you encounter in Jamaica and other places. 4.) Lastly, make sure you book directly with the hotel. I had a terrible experience dealing with Cheap-Caribbean and I realized later that I didn't even get any better of a deal than what the hotel offered directly. I wasted so many hours of my life going back and forth with them, as well as several of my employees. The service was slow and not very thorough. Beware.

Gorgeous resort, not the best food or service.

Most of ground floor rooms offer an exclusive outdoor plunge pool. Plunge away.

The intimate wine cellar with international premium vino.

Cushy bathrobes and slippers, and turndown service each night with chocolates. Sweet.

Red Cross certified staff supervise the aforementioned club. A relief, right?

Parents get a pager from the Explorer's club, should they be needed for anything.

Swimming with the dolphins nearby. You don't have to be a kid to love this.

The Water Lily After-Sun Soothing Wrap and Relaxing Moon & Star Massage. Melt.

Seaside dining with only a candle and the stars to light up your night. (A fee for this, but life is short).

What We'd Change

The beach on this part of the Riviera Maya can be a bit weedy, but with 3 heated pools and world-class diving and snorkeling nearby, who cares?

Check out bocce ball, billiards or for more vigor, soccer and football.

Jump on the euro-bungee and ocean trampoline, then bounce on over to the mini golf course.
