Not Great

First of all the beach area was USELESS. The water was dark brown, there was garbage, branches and rocks all over the sand. It was the WORST beach area I have ever seen behind a resort. The pool bar was only open 2 out of the 6 days we were there. To get a drink we had to get out of the pool and stand in a line. Why were there not any washclothes available to take a shower??? No refridgerators in room which is common in most resorts. The walkways were broken up and the bricks were uneven making it hazzardous walking especially with the lack of lighting. We did walk over to the newer section of the resort and it did look nice, cleaner, newer walkways, etc... Why are the lounge chairs that have the straw huts over them in circles of dirt??? It would also be nice to have more than 2 small tables between the 100 lounge chairs to sit our stuff on while at the pool. The whole "older" section of the resort is in need of paint and repairs. You should update your website on this resort...there is NO CASINO and according to the desk there hasnt been one there for 3 years!!! That limited our night activities. You shouldnt say something is there when it isnt. Your palm tree rating asked about value. I spent more staying at this overrated place than I spent to stay at much better places in the Dominican Republic (Melia Caribe Tropical for example). In closing I will say the people there were very nice and helpful.

1st all inclusive vacation

The resort is a beautiful place. There were some concerns I had though. We arrived 10pm on a Wed. night. There was nothing open to eat except for pizza. Also, there are certain amenities that were not open until the weekend. Your advertisement did not mention this, and it also advertised a casino (which hasn't been in operation for a couple of years. We did enjoy the helpful company of a bartender named Yazdany (or Danny). He gave us really helpful tips on where to go shopping for what we were looking for. He is the best bartender you have there and you should be proud to have him on your staff. The rooms were very nice and comfortable. I fell in love with the pillows on the bed-they were the most comfortable ones I have ever slept on! The Italian restaurant was delicious. The seafood restaurant was just ok. Really wanted seafood other than fish or calamari. A nice shrimp dish would have been nice. Like I said before, the resort is a beautiful place. Just wish everything in your advertisement was true.

Best VACATION EVER

This was the first vacation that my husband and I were able to go on together. I was really scared with the review that I read prior to our trip, but went anyways due to location of the tours that I wanted to go on. The Hilton was wonderful. I read a prior review stating that if you come expecting the New York elite resort that you will be disappointed. This is true. This is a third world country and what we got exceeded our expectations. We are simple people and it fit us well. This is a wonderful resort, well-kept and the people work hard to please everyone there. Not to mention how hard they work to maintain and clean up from everyone. I know some comments are made about the pools… but no comment was made about how much they worked on them to keep them nice. Our room was beautiful… 3324. Top floor and looking out to the ocean. Loved the balcony in the early mornings and evenings. Was a great retreat. Could hear the ocean every minuet, even when doors were closed in our room. Beach was black sand and sunsets were to die for. We never got in to the ocean due to the strong current. But enjoyed it every chance we got. Bed and room were nice and well maintained. AC was almost cold. So it worked well. Wish the walls were a little thicker as we could hear doors close late in the night. We booked our tours with the company directly across the street. They are the same tours offered from the resort. Only difference is taking out the middle man, thus it is cheaper. We did a tour every day: Poas Volcano & Waterfalls, Tortuga Island, Monkey and Crocs, and Montverde. We did learn that you can pay your departure fee right at the resort. That was a huge help. No line at the resort compared to the airport. Pay attention to the times that they provide you when you arrive… example is when breakfast is, when the pool close, when towel area closes. This will help so you don’t find yourself in a bind. Also the times listed for travel times are not exact. Add more time. To get to the resort… hour and half to two hours from SJO. Traffic is crazy and we were so happy that we didn’t rent a car. Not to mention having someone local who knew a back road or another way when there was a delay or closure. If you take cash… carry nothing larger than $20. A lot of places will take America cash… but have a hard time breaking anything large. I would also recommend this resort for children. I know that we will be back with ours in the future.

Worst trip ever!!!!

Delay on our original flight from Knoxville because of inbound crew caused us to miss our connecting flight to San Jose. Sent 7 hrs in Houston, TX. Missed our transportation and had to rent a car. San Jose is just plain SCARY!! The hwy after that has no lights at night on a curvy mountain road. We got to the hotel but 5 key changes later and the maintanence man still couldn't get in our room without the bellboy. They changed our room the next day at 3PM and the same thing happened but was straightened out quickly. Toilet ran all night and the shower didn't drain. We ate breakfast there but eat at Los Suenos Marina "Hook UP " and the Italian resturant the rest of our meals. The food left alot to be desired at the hotel. Only 1 day did we receive wash cloths without having to go ask for them. There was an earthquake while we were there that shook the hotel at 9:30 PM. Flight was delayed on the way home as well in Houston. This hotel offers Day passes. Use you imagination as to what the weekend is like!!! We went fishing for Rooster fish but was told the next day it was the wrong season!!! My husiband went zip lining and enjoyed that. The lush green and mountains are beautiful. Go to Villa Castila between Jaco and Puntaneras. Fabulous view! Puntaneras is dirty, poverty, and just scary!' Water has debrie everywhere. Sand is just plain dirty but that's not true when you're at the shoreline in a boat, looks like Jersey sand. Locals said Jaco at night is bad with drugs but we had no problem during the day. People were nice! We'll never go back!
