Disapointed

The only great thing was the entertainment. Room at best average. It was like a motel 6 room, clean but uncomfortable. The food at the buffet was ok but at the restaurants below average. Pool and beach of, weather almost perfect. English was not spoken by anybody at the front desk

if you ever wanted to experience cuba ....

this would be a prelude; great to experience resort before it gets commercialized by the western standards.. pros: food - natural beaches - beautiful hotel - good shape area- beautiful nature- parrots and other "wild animals" on the beach and in mangrives empty pools -all southamericans are on the beach ;) cons- no english virtually for full 8 days limited food choices service is a reminscences of the post communist block developing country - playa blanca - big dumpster behind the beach - jet ski polluting hotel waters locals hassling for money,no prices on any item.. prices 10x the actual value drinks - limited foreign drinks outdated food and check in system - all on paper dated room interior and outside - needs some renovations - atual 3.5 star is adquate for US standards beah is too small - need to book beach chairs around 6 AM; otherwise you get stuck between "locals" ;) this resort with a decent amount of hardwork could be a perfect match for US customers in 5 years.

Decameron Barú just ok needs more amenities

The island is about an hour away from Cartagena very nice views and water is pretty clear. Don’t be fooled by the clouds you will get burned fast. Due to being the only all inclusive resort in Baru it still needs to get up to speed. The gift shop sucks and lacks variety if you want souvenirs go to Las Bóvedas on Cartagena because most items in resort don’t have have “Colombia” on it only say “Decameron” name chain You have to pay for WiFi which is very slow, the employees are not friendly you have to address them first before the speak to you, there are no waiters for the pool like other resorts, the rooms need updating, and the food could be better scale a lot of foods in buffet are starches. Like yuca rice beans are always on the menu. When getting a drink you have to tell them you want liquor I guess they assume since it’s a family resort people don’t want to drink. This place is huge so bring comfortable flats/ sandals and lots of stairs. If your handicap I wouldn’t recommend this resort it doesn’t seem to be easily accessible for disabilities. Unlike other places we have gone to (Jamaica, Riviera Maya, Panama etc..) this place does not provided robes no slippers only would leave us 2 towels and they don’t have wash clothes size towels. Pool and beach towels are controlled by some laminated card which is a pain too and they are rough on burnt skin. Beach chairs are taken up early morning. And if you want to eat at the restaurants you have to be in lobby to make reservations daily by 745am this part sucks to be honest. Don’t be fooled this place doesn’t have room service and no snacks or drinks in mini fridge so what’s the point of having them. And if you get hungry after the restaurant close be prepared to eat the worst frozen burgers they should not even be able to feed them to dogs that how nasty they are. And there is a safe in rooms you must pay at an additional charge. Since there is not much competition yet in this island they are doing only enough to be better than other places in Cartagena overall just a 3.5 star not a 4 nor 5.
