The Crane Resort

We recently travelled to Barbados and stayed at the Crane resort. We loved the Island and the whole experience. The only down side was crane beach which is in the top 10 for beaches in the world. But every year for 4-6 weeks it gets covered in seaweed which meant it was closed for our stay. This is a nature problem and no fault of the Crane. But it would have nice to get a heads up about this problem. When you fly over 30 hours to get to Barbados.

Wonderful relaxing trip

We stayed for 6 days and enjoyed every minute. The staff was excellent - friendly, helpful and very professional. It was our first trip to Barbados so we toured as much as possible throughout the island. It was great to be able to return each day and feel secure and comfortable in our "home away from home." The meals at the Crane were fantastic. We will return to Barbados and to The Crane Resort.

2 Star Resort

Please don't make the mistake of not reading all the negative reviews before booking. First of all the crane is a beautiful setting with old world charm and we loved our ocean view suite. Our suite was very spacious and absolutely beautiful. However, those are the only pros. If you are seeking a quiet peaceful resort and love pools and are fine NOT laying by a beautiful ocean then this is the place for you. Here are all the cons: After traveling for 9 hours and arriving at the hotel at 3:30pm one would expect their room to be ready. Nope. We had to sit in the hot non air conditioned reception area to wait for our room to be ready. We waited for 1 hour to finally get into our room. The beach was unfortunately full of seaweed and completely unusable. Huge disappointment although this is not at fault of the hotel. However, I would never book this hotel again just because of the high risk of the seaweed. Please don't fly several hours to just sit by a pool all day. This is a major flaw for this resort. Due to the beach being closed because of seaweed, the hotel offered a free shuttle to cocacabanna beach. This whole ordeal included a 45 minute packed shuttle ride to the beach while you are basically sitting on top of each other. You also need to sign up and wear a big blue wrist band like you are attending some type of concert or amusement park. Also, they provide ONE time frame for the shuttle. 1030-330. We would have appreciated at least two options for those that would like to fully enjoy a long day at the beach. Instead, we only had 4 hours by the time we got there. Once we got to the beach, all the designated chairs for the crane guests were already taken. Therefore we had to wait again for them to set up more chairs and more umbrellas. Wasn't the point of the sign up sheet to provide head count? All of the guests received a menu and drink service in a timely fashion... except for us. No one came by. We finally saw a waitress and ordered two rum punches and asked for a menu. She never came back with the drinks and never came back at all. Had to literally chase down a cocacabanna waiter to order food and drinks. We didn't think it could get worse but it did. The last day we were there they informed us that the shuttle will be going to foul bay Beach down the road and not the beautiful cocacabanna Beach. There are NO facilities at this beach whatsoever. The front desk did let us know that there would be PORTA POTTIES available for us to use. What a complete insult. Due to that we decided to pay for a taxi to dover Beach. On our second day at the resort we received a call to our room. Not to check in on our stay but it was a sales guy from the sales office trying to sell a property at the crane. When I told him I wasn't interested he said "are you sure?" The LAST thing you want on a beautiful tropical vacation is getting sales calls. Really? The food is very over priced and we were told upon check in that there is no meal package to add on anymore. The majority of the concierge staff are friendly expect for one woman. She was OK at first but as soon as we started asking several questions about the different tours it was clear she couldn't wait for us to leave. She couldn't have been bothered and seemed very disinterested and disingenuous. At one point she said to the other concierge woman "we're going to be here for a while". There is zero poolside service at any of the pools. The adult pool has a bar next to it with no waitstaff. There is one bartender that stands behind the bar and does nothing. Don't expect to relax and be served here. Housekeeping is very inconsistent. We came back to our hotel room around 330pm and housekeeping had just started to clean our room. Also, there was construction going on in the room above us so even if we wanted to relax after a long day we couldn't. I wish we had read all the negative reviews before booking here. Stay away from the crane and please book elsewhere.

Beautiful Views

The resort itself is beautiful. We reserved a room with the 28ft pool. Best investment ever! So private and convenient. The food and drinks are outrageously expensive! $12.50 American dollar for a six pack of beer. To go any where it costs you $45.00 for a cab one way. So if you are going and planning on staying at the resort it's fine. Very mellow atmosphere. Wish there was more dining options. Normally gain weight on vacation. Not this one.... We lost weight. The food there was very good taste and quality however not a lot of options. Would go back again for the atmosphere. Very pretty! One more tip.... If you are flying out on a Monday and have prearranged transportation with Johnson's Tours contact the early in the day on Sunday. Our flight left early Monday morning. Did not realize until about 5:00 Sunday that we had not heard from Johnson's Tours. Could not reach them at that point they were closed. So had to hire a taxi. 5:00 Monday morning our taxi and Johnson's Tours were waiting for us! Have the transfer company communicate with you. Be ready for sunshine and relaxation! : )

What's to Love

The property is on one of the best beaches in Barbados. Plus, every suite has been finished to an incredible standard.

What We'd Change

The beach is beautiful but not that gentle, and the waves can get quite big. On the upside, there are 6 great pools!

If you want elegant accommodation, a huge beach, and some nice restaurants, this is the place to go.
