Go to Punta Cana

We were quite disappointed with this hotel. It was probably gorgeous back in the day but is quite shabby now. The room did not even have a chair to sit in and the lights were very dim. I never got a hot shower the whole time I was there. You have to be super careful what you eat as it is easy to get sick. The food itself was tough or unripe and very redundant. If you get up at 8:30 and stand in line you can eat at a specialty restaurant. The beach is lovely, but you are bothered constantly with venders. I was disappointed that the water was not a clear as I expected and the scuba diving was poor. Driving in Santo Domingo was stressful and not worth the trip.

Dated Resort didn't impact our enjoyment

This resort is dated and needs updates in several areas. However, none of that detracted from the enjoyment of our stay. The rooms themselves are probably the most in need of improvements, but we do not go to a resort to spend time in the room and we did not this time either. The staff is friendly enough but none went out of their way for us and few spoke enough English for us to be able to communicate concerns. There is no VIP upgrade here, which we have had at other Dominican resorts and we highly enjoyed. Availability at the a la carte restaurants is VERY limited and you need to be in line by 8:30 to get a reservation starting at 9 am. The food is worth it though - very good. The buffet is adequate but choices do not change much from day to day. They could use more bars, especially near the beach. The beach is really the crown of this resort - lots spots in the sun or shade. Plus, its a quick ride from the airport. Huge bonus.

Cheap Caribbean’s not what it used to be.

We took an overnight flight thinking we would be ready to enjoy the entire day. WRONG! We arrived at 6 am and the staff said our room wouldn’t be ready till 3:30. They gave us a wrist band to use the pools and restaurants, but gave us no map of the place. We didn’t know where anything was and I had my laptop in a small suitcase so I had to carry all day because our bags were left by security. Cheap Caribbean made no arrangement for our early arrival. The 1st 2 days we had to move to 3 different rooms because the hotel had water problems. The hotel was run down. I don’t mean it needed an update, the tiles were coming off the untrimmed bathroom wall & it was filthy. The pillows were only 1/2 size & they gave us 3, so between my husband and I, we had 1 & 1/2 pillows. The buffet was awful but the sit down restaurant was okay. We paid for 5 nights with Cheap Caribbean, but we didn’t realize our 5th night we were actually flying home, so we really only got 4 nights. When I 1st started using Cheap Caribbean, they were awesome, but this time they didn’t even show up at our hotel to tell us about our return home or to sell us package tours. We had to call them to find out how we were getting back to the airport. Won’t be using them again!!

Wouldn't recommend

I have been through most of the Caribbean and this was my least favorite resort. the beach is lovely and the pool is clean and good size. but the food was really substandard. the fruits were not ripe and the meats were tough. The hotel is dated. It once must have been lovely, but definatey showing age.. The rooms had poor lighting, we never got a hot shower and there were no real blankets on the bed. Be careful not to drink any tap water and if you have a weak stomach use your own cup at the bar as the glasses were not cleaned well. The scuba off the beach was disappointing as the visibility was poor. While it would be OK for a wheel chair there was no rails for those with walkers or handicapped room with bars for the toilet. This seem so be a popular spot for Russians and Canadian but not many Americans

What's to Love

We love how the beach is just a short walk from any room. Speaking of rooms, the ones here are pretty spacious, too.

What We'd Change

We found there wasn't a big variety of food at the buffet on some evenings. Luckily, there were plenty of different choices at the a la carte restaurants.
