My Birthday Celebration
While celebrating my birthday week, December 2-9, 2017 in Dominican Republic at the Carol Costa Caribe Resort, I experienced difficulty in charging my cell phone. This was only my second day there and I could not be without a cell phone. So, I went to the gift shop to see if I could buy a new cable to charge my phone's battery. The gift shop clerk, Libanesa, was so incredibly helpful in testing both my cable and attachment to ascertain which one was bad. Unfortunately, both were bad. I was a little uncomfortable spending my money and possibly not resolving my problem. Libanesa, agreed to charge my phone to show that the cable and attachment were good and was charging my phone before finalizing the sale. I am very grateful to the great customer service and professionalism displayed by Libanesa. Her actions made such a favorable impact on me that it made my entire resort experience wonderful and relaxing.
Many Thanks Libanesa,
Ray C.

We booked this trip with high hopes for a great vacation. We were not disappointed. The room was spacious and had a great view of the ocean, beach and pool. There were plenty of beach chairs in and around the pool and beach areas that we never felt the need to get up early and save chairs. The pool bar was closed during most of our stay due to repairs, however, Franklin always made sure we had plenty to drink while lounging at the second pool! The food was a bit of a stretch for me personally. I believe that the food was good in taste, however, I am a picky eater and I ate a lot of bananas. The breakfast was great and the omlettes were outstanding. Overall, this is a great resort and the staff is very helpful and friendly, We are already looking forward to our next trip back to this resort.
The resort is pretty however the rooms are old, dated and not well kept. Buffet was poor and served same choices everyday. Restaurants were ok. Staff was for the most part friendly.

Terrified by TripAdvisor Reviews11 answers
A couple of weeks ago, I booked 5-nights at Costa Caribe Coral in Juan Dolio, near Santo Domingo in the DR. Now, after reading reviews on TripAdvisor (and some on cheapcaribbean.com), I am growing more and more concerned about the food, service, and room quality of the resort. My boyfriend and myself haven't taken a vacation in years and I am worried that we've wasted our money. We do not need 5 stars, but we certainly expect a clean room and hot water. Any suggestions are appreciated.

You should be TERRIFIED my guy and I was at the location about 30 mins away from Santo Domingo on 3/8-3/15 and it sucked everything you read was true wish you guys colud change your resort it would be worth whatever the cancelation cost would be. This place I would never recommend to my dogs! I loved the DR but not this resort.

Go to the Allegro Cozumel!!! Clean, Safe comfortable!!! I have been there 3 times and will continue to go back...I love it there!!! Book it now!!!

Overall CheapCaribbean.com rates Coral Costa Caribe a 3 out of 5 suns, and our customer reviews currently have this resort rated at 3 and a half out of 5. This resort is one that we would definitely recommend to the budget concious traveler. Although it may not be for everyone, a number of our customers have been to this resort in the past few weeks and have rated it highly. Problems do occur sometimes, regardless of resort, and if you do encounter any issues, most times all it takes is speaking with the front desk to have the issue rectified. If you have more specific questions, please feel free to call our Concierge department.
KateCC
I would say to you, you pay for what you get! We had hot water SOMETIMES. The rooms we clean for the most part, they have not been renovated so they are older and not a 5 start quality for sure! We were disappointed at first with that, but we got a great deal and all we wanted was sun and beach and that is what we got, and that was worth it! Please learn a bit of spanish before you go, because the staff does not know a lot of english! The food is good, just not 5 star quality!
sunburnt
The resort won't let you down. The rooms are very nice and the house keeping does a great job every day cleaning it and making it look great. The one problem we did run into was one day we didn't have hot water in the shower though, and we called about it and it was just a one time occurrence. It is definitely not a waste of money and I would recommend it to people.
Teddy18
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but most of the resort did not have running water in shower nevermind hot. However if you wait it out a day they will usually change you to a diff room by the next day. The food isnt bad, usually the buffet had something for anyone. and also has a different theme every night.
dinam
they are quick to fix anything thats wrong! Also make sure to go to the Italian restaurant and the mexican.
belyn
I recommend you do not go there! Very dirty and disgusting! Very little water pressure. There were times when we didn't have any water at all. The pools were never cleaned and they were very dirty. The food was minimal and ok. I recommend you go to a nice resort in the Riviera Maya in Mexico or I hear that Punta Cana in DR is not all that bad. I do not recommend this place. You will be disappointed!
LauraH
i just got back from CC in Juan Dolio.....it was my 2nd time at this resort. I wentfor my 29& 30th bday. Dontlet the reviews scare you.......most ofthem are unfounded. We did have a small issue checking in......we had to wait a bit and then they gave us a room w/o a balcony (which we paid for).......the problem was solved and we were given a beach front first floor balcony room.......which was AWESOME........cleaned everyday with new towles..soap...etc....i suggest the first floor, because in 2010 we had a 5th floor room....and i found that it wasnt attended to like this one...but this time by 1pm or 2pm....our rooms was made up ....the outside services are great........bartenders, staff, beach service pohot shop, are great............Its not a five Star......but its absolutly fine...........food is okay...but you have selections.......make sureyou go to all the places to eat.......all for free.....i suggest going on the Crazy Horse Ranch tour.....or Catalina island tour. The discotech could be better...but your not in NY.,,,,,,it it was okay............................Dont worry....if what your lookingfor is a quite, relaxing , sunshiny vaca.....youll be just fine..........Make sure you go see the omelette king in the morning at the buffett......hes awesome!!!1

we had a very clean room and hot water, our room was on the north building, which is a walk to the beach, but always had hot water, toilets worked and bottled water.

I JUST CAME FROM THE HOTEL THREE DAYS AGO AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT IS VERY PEACEFUL PLACE, NICE PEOPLE THE ROOM ARE CLEANS AND HAD TOWELS THE ROOM IS CLEAN EVERY DAY, THE FOOD IS GOOD, THE DRINKS ARE VERY GOOD, THE NIGHTLIFE IS ALWAYS BECAUSE WENT I GET THERE THE FIRST DAY YOU STILL CAN SEE PEOPLE DRINKING AND PLAYING POOL UNTIL 5 IN THE MORNING, THE BEACHES ARE BEATIFUL, THE HOTEL IS NOT BIG REALLY BUT FOR ME WAS PERFECT BECAUSE I LIKE TO HAVE EVERYTHING CLOSE, IF YOU LIKE THE POOL , SUN, EAT, DRINK YOU WILL BE OK IS NOT WAO BUT FOR ME WAS OK I FELT HAPPY
bigmama
If you just want to get away for some sun and fun, you're good, try going to the specialty restaurants. El fogon, the Dominican food Restaurant was ok. Enjoy the free "cheap liquor" the beach and the pools will more than make up for everything else.

Should I bring my laptop or my cellphone?11 answers
can't wait to be on vacation! is it worth bringing my laptop or phone or should i just leave them at home? i dont want to pay extra to use them each day...especially if theyre just going to get stolen! thanks!
7 years, 85 months ago
B.B.
NO you are on VACATION
2travel
LEAVE IT HOME! You will have to pay a tax from your cell phoen provider just for having your cell turned on usually .99-$3.00 per day. Then on phone calls you will most likely pay .99/min As far as laptop...most resorts charge you a fee to use the internet $10/day along with usage fees for downloads or time spent on the net! RELAX! Have a good time! Everyone can wait until you get back! HAVE FUN!
ncrealtor
ah thats not what i meant! what i should've asked is do the safes in the room fit a laptop? how much is the safe to use?
i only want them for emergencies - like needing to call or email someone if necessary.
im also wondering if the free wifi in the lobby is legit?
BBoman
The only additional charges to use your phone will come from your carrier. If you want to stay connected, bring it. You have a safe in your room where you can keep things if you don't want to carry them with you. There is Wifi in the lobby area and garden bar area, there is a nominal daily fee for internet usage.
jetset
Near the lobby and garden bar there is free wifi....You can also pay for the service and they have laptops for public use if you prefer not to take it with you. I took both my laptop and cell phone
JOZIG
No its not worth it because they dont even have wifi in the resort only in the lobby.
Belkis
I am not attached to my laptop or phone when I'm on vacation. Quite a few people were using the wireless area of the lobby.
BooBoos
I would bring your cell phone (I was able to use it to text but no data usage like email, etc) but definitely leave the laptop at home. There was an internet-ready area but I did not utilize it during my stay. Both will fit in the safe but I do not think that bringing your computer would be worth the hassle.
MMcD
You will most likely have to pay extra to your cellular service provider for service outside the U.S. check with them.
The hotel did have Wi-Fi service at no charge. We used our laptop daily. We put our phone in the safe but kept the laptop out in the open and had no problems with theft.
mrstoss
First off your things won't be stolen as long as you take normal precautions - things you would do every day at home.
With that said, if you do not heed to keep in touch with work or anyone in particular then good for you . . . . leave it all home.
vacations
Hope this message reach you b4 u travel. Anyway, you can leave your cell phone/s in the safe along with your passport, jewelry, etc. The cost to use your room safe is approximately $3.00 per day. Sorry, not sure about the laptop. Have fun!
Kiya
There is free wi-fi in the lobby area. It wasn't the strongest signal, but it worked

Yes, you may stay in two different hotels during your trip as long as you fulfill the minimum occupancy requirements of each resort. You are not able to book this online but would need to book with one of our experienced destination specialists.
ccsusan1
of course you can. I very often ytavel throughout the country and stay at all inclusive hotels for a brief period than stay at traditional hotels dor the rest of my trip.

Perfect Resort (Costa Caribe), worst Carrier (Spirit), lousy attitude in order to help customer (CheapCaribbean)
Choose the almost perfect Costa Caribe in Jaun Dolio, perfect location.
But, if you come with Spirit, please do not loose you connection (three hours in Ft. Lauderdale), otherwise you loose all your flights way and back. No chance to get anything back, nor from CheapCaribbean and not, of course, from Spirit.
By the way, the insurance is valid only for US residents.

Is there a dress code for Dinner at the Costa Carib Resort?11 answers
Are long pants or suit coats required for the evening meal?
6 years, 76 months ago
Tomec
There is a dress code at this resort as men are requested to wear long pants and sleeve shirts.
MariaCC
There were no dress codes.
Some people got dressed up in gowns, and others wore shorts. Anything goes.
smull
Although long pants were supposedly required for the ala carte restaurants, they were never enforced.
CheapTomC
absolutely not!
JP24
No, not required for any of the restaurants. I found the women would dress up in resort clothes but the guys would come in with shorts and a shirt. Reservations weren't needed either.
yooperislandgirl
No. And DON'T GO THERE AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Serge
No they are not required. Most woman wore sun dresses, skirts, capris or nice shorts and then men wore shorts and t shirts or polo shirts. Very casual, yet great food especially in the Mexican and Italian restuarants.
readingteacher
you have to have a shirt and shoes and some kind of shorts or pants.
I saw every possible combination but no one worn bathing suits to dinner. Breakfast and lunch people had cover ups on
AlanReiff
Not one that is enforced. I recommend you do not stay at this hotel. It is without a doubt a filthy, disgusting no service dump.
ATXBeachBum
No, while people did dress up a bit for dinner, that was not required.

you can get a round trip transfer from the tour operator for $20.00 per person each way. 2 people can get a private car for the same rate. i recommend you do that
AlanReiff
We do offer the option to purchase the roundtrip airport transfer service with your vacation package. The shared transfer service is $40 per person and the private transfer service for 1-2 passengers is $84.00. This pricing is applicable when flying into Santo Domingo Airport and staying at Coral Costa Caribe Resort.
MariaCC
$70.00 round trip by cab from hotel to Santo Domingo if that helps. I recommend you do not stay at this hotel. It is a filthy, disgusting, no service dump.

I paid $40 for roundtrip transportation from a company contracted by CheapCaribbean.com. That was from the airport to Juan Dolio.

Is transportation included in the package from cheap Caribbean ?11 answers
Also for the tour options is it cheaper to add it to your package?
6 years, 73 months ago
Cupcakes978
Transfers are optional and can be added no later then 48 hours prior to arrival. Private Round-Trip Airport Transfers for 1-2 Passengers From SDQ to Juan Dolio are $84. Round-Trip Airport Transfers SDQ to Juan Dolio in a shared service is $40 per person. 18 miles away from Las Americas International Jose Francisco ena Gomez Airport (SDQ). Approximate driving time is 30 minutes.
KellyCC
No. And transportation isn't cheap. About $90 USD for round trip taxi fare from resort to Santa Domingo. There are lots of local buses though......if you speak Spanish that's the way to go! Only 80 pesos into the city, and 120 pesos back.
Rats
You can add on transportation 48 hours prior to your travel through CheapCarribbean by contacting the customer service agent. I believe there is an additional charge of like $18-$23 per way.
Kango2210
Transportation was not part of the package, but you can add it on when you book the trip on line.
SoccerSteve
No transportation is not included and you have to add it as an extra.
I believe cheap carribbean book it thru Olympus Tours
cameo
Transportation is an add on to your Cheap Caribbean vacation package. Best to add on the transporation with package, more expensive and hassle to do at arrival. I found for excursions, best to do once you get to the resorts..you can negotiate the price some, especially if you do more than one trip, also...i've found some do different things on different days...so you can see which is best for you.
WVtraveller26301
get the tour off site tour options before you go or ask the front desk about them. We learned the hard way about purchasing from someone who wasn't sanctioned by the hotel. It was an entertaining disaster that we had fun with, but I don't want to repeat the experience.

No you have to pay extra and I recommend you to do so because taxis are very expensive.
mfrance74
There's an add on option while booking, you must get this, it's an extra cost, but well worth it. Transportations to and from the airport to resort. The tour options, I always feel better having someone explain the tours in person, so I get them at the resort.

At the Coral Costa Caribe, is the water or sand so rough that it is suggested to wear water shoes?
5 years, 72 months ago
Mike
The beach at the Coral Costa Caribe is not usually extremely rough, however as weather conditions and tides can affect the water and make it calmer or rougher, we suggest bringing your water shoes along, just in case!
KristinCC
No- I didn't wear shoes at any point when I was on property.
abstn
The sand was soft and fine, but a little ways out in the water you may hit a few rocks and definitely plenty of seaweed so I wore my water shoes and so did my companions.
LisaC
The waves are calm and the sand is smooth under foot, however, late afternoon tide brings in what looks like some litter mixed with lots of seaweed so you may want to wear water shoes during that time of day.
strawberrytraveler
Not at all, the sand is really white and fine and there are hardly any shells. No water shoes needed. As far as the water, you have a strip of very clear water and then it gets dark because of all the seaweed and all and then it gets really clear again.
mfrance74
Nope!

Like the name implies, there are a lot of corals within 20-30 feet of the beach. So, if you like to go and walk deep into it, Yes, wear some.

Can a registered guest have visitors?6 answers
I would like to have visitors come to my room. Is this allowed and if so what are the requirements?
5 years, 65 months ago

Only registered guests are allowed on property, they must be listed on your reservation and check in at the front desk.
KellyCC
yes but you have to pay for guest badge it usually around $20 to $30.
Redvelvet215
I HAD A VISITOR BUT PAID $150 FOR TWO NIGHTS IN ORDER FOR MY FRIEND TO STAY, THE RESORT RECEPTION TOLD ME MINIMUM TWO NIGHTS STAY.
pal5618
You may have 1 visitor come to your room if you pay an extra $75 USD per night for their wristband. Meaning if you have 3 nights stay left, then you must pay 3 x 75usd = $225 usd, even if the guest is only staying 1 night, you still must pay for all your remaining days.
GlobeHopper
Depends on the type of visitor, but if you want to bring a friend of the opposite gender that is not a registered guest, you will likely pay a 75 dollar fee as the front desk issues wrist bands to all guests and security looks at each person as they get on and off elevators. The fee gives your guest temporary access to your room.

Wine was available in the restaurants at dinner time only. The white wine was brown and the red wine was also brown. And may I add, they tasted like they were brown!
Cheekz
Yes but the wine was awful
samiam2
Most of the mixed cocktails have rum in it as it is very good in the Dominican. They make very good tropical blended drinks so it doesn't have top shelf alcohol in them. You can pay extra for top shelf at the sports bar that is open 24/7. As for the wine.....if you are a wine drinker, you will not like their house red/white wine. It's for first time wine drinkers who don't know better. As always, you can pay extra for these items. I don't know what the cost is for this. We stuck to what was included because there was plenty to drink and they were all delicious!
Danya
Basically, all alcohol is included. Nothing top shelf, most of it pretty watered down, but you can get what you want. Wine is also included, but very poor quality. Personally, I drink $7 bottles of wine. Nothing came even close to that at this hotel. Don't bother
Fernando2565
wine oly in the restaurant, the rest alcohol everywhere any time
erikatatin
Unless you pay extra for premium liquor, Dominican alcohol is the norm. It is VERY weak. Even the liquers are watered down.I absolutely love Presidente beer in a bottle but there is none on the resort. The draft beer from the Presidente spiggot is darker in colour than it should be and extremely bitter. It gave me heartburn instantly. Friends drank the wine. Not sure of the quality or avaiaibility. However, Do NOT go to this Resort. Please read my review of this less than 1* resort.

Dominican alcohol is Brugal which is there brand which is pretty good, vodka, rum, tequila, etc just basics nothing like patron bacardi grey goose crown but its vacation its all good :) the beer is presidente. wine is available for dinner only im pretty sure its nothing spectacular.

Does Coral Costa offer snorkeling for free?9 answers
Is this part of the all-inclusive deal? And if it is, how is it? Do you take a boat to a nearby location? How does it work?

The Coral Costa Caribe does offer snorkeling; however, since complimentary amenities are always subject to change, it is best to confirm with the front desk when you check in.

Not 100% sure but most all non-motorized watersports are included. Yes, they have snorkeling gear free, although they want 10 dollar deposit which you get back when you return the gear. Snorkeling is just from the shore, no boat. Lots of sea urchants, be careful. They have a boat for scuba diving, for a fee.
sassy1259
The snorkeling is free. You give the water sports director a $10 deposit for the mask/flippers, but you get it back upon return. I am an avid snorkeler, but we were having so much fun on the beach that we never got out there to do it! There is not a boat that takes you to a nearby location. You snorkel in a reef/grassy area outside of the swimming zone. There were lots of people out there checking things out!
EmilyAnn5
It is free but you just get the gear and go into the water to swim in the nearby area where there is like a reef with fish around there. You can rent the gear for 1 hour at a time. You must leave a security deposit though in case the gear is lost or damaged
carolinagirl123
snorkeling is part of the all-inclusive. my husband did it every day. just give a $10 deposit at the little beach shack and they give it back to you when you return the gear. one guy told him it was only for an hour, but other days he kept it all day long, and no one seemed to mind. the snorkeling is pretty decent right at the beach - the water is calm. we brought back tons of shells. there are also trips you can take that cost more $
ekbweyant
snorkeling is free, and you just get the goggles and breathing thing and go on your wayk it does cost if you get a tour guide, if you choose to get a tour guide they take you to boca chica which is about 20 minutes away very beautiful lots of fish i did it and its deff worth it. it takes about 3 hours and you go to about 25 diff spots where there are fish and it gets you away from the resort

Clifton Park
As with all travel within and outside of the United States, we recommend using your best judgment and to stay alert. We never recommend leaving your belongings unattended. Both Cheap Caribbean and our vendors put our clients safety at the top of our priorities; however, if something should happen while you are in destination, you will need to notify the resort and file a report as soon as possible.

Yes, we felt very safe. There are employees at the entrance lobby always. We also left our beach bag by the chair and walked the beach. No one bothered our things, ever. I wouldn't leave money or valuables in my bag at any beach just in case.
sassy1259
The safety at the resort itself is wonderful! I was quite concerned as well and did not pack any jewelry or anything of real value. I would definitely recommend paying for the safety deposit box in the hotel room for your passports especially. On the beach, there were a lot of vendors, but there was a lot of security walking around. We left our things right on the chairs (and at time there was money in the bags!) but didn't have a problem at all.
EmilyAnn5
we stayed on the resort the whole time. i was a little leery leaving our stuff while we went about, but it was safe. if we were going to go on a long walk down the beach, i would take our cameras, etc. and leave our towels, shoes, etc on our chairs. if we were just heading out to the water for a swim, everything was fine at the chairs. it felt safe to me - lots of families, older couples, spring breakers - every age group. peddlers do walk through the beach area, but all have name badges and there are always vacationers around - i doubt anyone would make off with your things.
ekbweyant
your belongings are safe. But if you do have anything valuable, use the safe deposit box. I left my things on the beach with no problem. Like anywhere else, don't go outside the resort without a tour guide.

When we entered the Dominican, each person had to pay a $10 tourist fee to enter. This was in addition to the all inclusive package already paid for. We did not have to pay anything when leaving.

What's to Love
We love how the beach is just a short walk from any room. Speaking of rooms, the ones here are pretty spacious, too.
What We'd Change
We found there wasn't a big variety of food at the buffet on some evenings. Luckily, there were plenty of different choices at the a la carte restaurants.
