Honest and hopefully helpful!
This will be a long one but hopefully helpful for families who are arriving soon. I know we could have used this help! We are currently here (Jan 29th) the first 3 days were terrible. If you are looking for an easy to navigate resort, this is not it. There is 5 resorts in one, many areas you are not allowed in if you booked with Cofresi. You unfortunately are not aware of this until you make the long walks to those areas where you are rudely told you cannot be there. If you are traveling with anyone with mobility issues, this is NOT the place for you. There is easily over 300 stairs to attempt. No elevators. You will get asked if you’d like a tour of the resort, (state it takes 1 hour) yet it was over 5 hours. unless you want to spend $41,000 usd I recommend saying no thank you. They are only trying to sell you vacation packages. When you attempt to refuse it, they continue to push and become more aggressive with their “sale” tactics. It ends with them being extremely rude and you having to storm out and find your own way back to where you should be! They hover outside of the breakfast buffet and wait to pounce on you. I highly recommend speaking with your travel rep at the main Cofresi lobby for information, he is fantastic. Ask him to go over the map with you and show you the places you are allowed. Guest services can help you with this as well. Once you find your way around, it becomes more of the resort feeling. El Pilon is the place to be for families booked with Cofresi, there is a pool, beach access, cabanas you are allowed to use, snack bar is there. There is a shuttle bus (blue) that travels the resort every 15-20 mins. That was very helpful to start using 3 days in. They make many stops around the resorts so it helps lessen the walking. All the paths and road ways are very uneven so wheelchair accessible is quite a stretch. There are ramps, just very steep, lots of hills and holes. At main Cofresi lobby there is 3 pools. One is a children 12 and under, one is adults only 18+ they actively enforce, the other is for everyone. The pool is only about 1/4 full. Water in entire pool goes up to just above my knees (I’m 5’1) so not much water! We have had issues with no cold water each morning. Always hot water! No cold water means the toilet doesn’t work. Seems to be consistent each morning from 6:45 till about 10am. Rooms are kept cleaned, housekeeping staff is very friendly and accommodating. Food at the buffets has been very good. Wait staff are beyond friendly and welcoming. Specialty dinners that you are allowed to book. (3 for our reservation) go very fast so book early or you get none. Definitely bring bug spray and after bite! This is our first attempt at the Dominican Republic. The 1st 3 days we wanted to leave right away. Things have improved to where I won’t write this country off our travel lists, I just wouldn’t return to this specific resort. There is only a select couple of spots on this resort that have the resort/relax feeling. Everywhere else feels like your smack in the middle of the city. With lots of hustle and bustle. I’m sure many of the VIP areas have more of that resort feel.

Pleasant stay
Nice experience. We liked the adults only pool near the lobby. Also, the NV beach area was nice. All of the employee staff was very helpful and nice to us. The only thing I would have them change is the reservation process for restaurants. Every night was full when we arrived with no cancellations. Every morning at exactly 9 am I would check with no cancellations. They could definitely improve the process to make things more fair since when we looked at those restaurants each evening there were plenty of seats. Other than that, a very pleasant stay.

Believe the Bad Reviews, Please
I overlooked the BAD REVIEWS because my girlfriend really wanted to stay here. First day, we arrived late (10pm) -- and the hotel said my travel agent cancelled the reservation. The next day, we returned and I ended up paying for a new reservation in cash. Around 10pm that night, the front desk is calling my cell phone. The receptionist says they charged me the wrong price and I need to pay the difference right now?! Of course this is absurd and unprofessional, so I ignored the request. We get back to our room at 11pm and MY KEYS DO NOT WORK... I walk to the front desk and they guy says I owe money because I only paid for one day. I refuse. Finally, he activates my key so I can enter the room I already paid for. In the morning, I go to the front desk. The worker I spoke to said he was the manager, but he was lying. I had to catch the attention of an older lady with glasses who looked like she was in charge-- becase she was in charge. I wanted a credit or discount for getting locked out of my room at night-- she denied it was intentional. Interesting... She claims the first clerk made a mistake on the price, but I still need to pay the difference. I asked to see my paperwork. In pen, they CROSSEd OUT the original dates of my 3-day, 2-night stay LOL.... I refused to spend any more money there. I opted for a late checkout at 3pm. I should add that I am Black American and my partner is a Dominican woman. I can't say if they treat ALL guests this terribly, but it is worth noting. Plus, the buffet food did not digest well. Spend your money and time somewhere better. NEVER GO HERE.
