THE BEST!

I went here with my boyfriend and friends for my 30th birthday. The value is unreal! The staff was totally amazing! I was so impressed. I highly recommend upgrading your food packages because all of the food in the restaurants was amazing! I wish I could go back right now. It was a beautiful trip at an exquisite resort. The beach was perfect and the water was so warm! Can't say enough good things about this place! We upgraded to the premium room and it was so beautiful! I would recommend this place to anyone!

Better in pictures

I was expecting a lot from the pics but in person I gotta say it's not that impressive. The beach was ok and maybe just the time I went was bad but the seaweed was everywhere and ruined the beach. Then even underwater it wasn't even pretty. I thought by the rocks it would be cool to snorkel but it just looked like I was underwater at a lake. Most of the pools are filled with drunk people partying all day. They were all packed! My fave part was on the side of the resort where it was quiet and pretty and they had huge bean bag type of beds to lay on. This is the only bar I was able to get a decent drink at. The buffets were literally the worst food ever I couldn't even find one single thing to eat. Both buffets they have had the same food which was pointless. The Asian and Mexican restaurants were really good though thank goodness! But omg the room service was also terrible food. Eggs so gross I can't understand what they did to them. Gross bread gross jams even their orange juice was disgusting. Idk, I have just never had so much trouble with food anywhere in my life. Our room was cute but there were stains on the sheet. Mine looked like it had a blood stain, no joke. And the other bed had black stains on it. It was just the top cover so underneath it was fine. Then there were lots of tiny little ants on the bedside table. I put my coffee there for a minute and looked at it and it was covered in them. And then the worst part of all for me at least, was they had only Spanish channels. Which maybe I shouldn't be surprised by this? But for a place that seems like they try to accommodate a lot of different people, can't you at least offer PPV???? Like something we can choose to watch besides only another language? We would get lucky sometimes and find a channel that had some English randomly and it was just really bad movies. Every hotel should at least have PPv that's all I'm saying. I felt like I was stuck somewhere and not on vacation. The only redeeming part of this place was the spa. It was pretty ok point. I would not recommend this place to anyone ever.

Disappointing Resort

There is no swimming after 7pm. The beds are very hard. The beach is nothing but rock and seaweed. Credit card only for any purchases. You cannot use cash or pesos. Taxi is very costly. They don't have activities like Bingo or shuffleboard and what activities they do have is in a theater with no air conditioning. But they did have great food and attentive staff. The place is like a maze trying to find things and get around until you learn where you are. The elevators were not working while we were there. Would not recommend this hotel.

Hotel Catalonia Riviera Maya

I traveled to Mexico for the first time with my 2 sons, ages 6 and 12, we stayed at Hotel Catalonia Rivera Maya. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with excellent service, concierge took our bags and they handed us glasses filled with delicious fruit juice, my boys got a kick outta this! Our room was ridiculously nice, I upgraded to privilege suite, we had a separate living area with sleeper sofa, king in master bedroom, oversized bathroom area, 2 slider doors (1 in each room) that led out to the patio which had a hot tub, seating area and little garden area. It was beautiful, spacious, clean, and updated. I have never stayed all inclusive prior to this and I loved it. We ordered room service since it was included and ate at 3 of the restaurants and the buffets. Food was delicious, our favorite was the Japanese hibachi restaurant! So much fun. The customer service here is top notch, everyone we met was friendly and really wanted us to enjoy our stay, entertainment near the pools made the days fun and at night shop vendors lined the resort sidewalks, there is so much to do, there is no reason to leave the resort, which is exactly what I was looking for. Beautiful location of beaches and lagoon. It's not just one tiny beach area, it's spread out along the resort so nothing feels crowded. Overall I loved it here, my boys loved it, and I am definitely returning to Hotel Catalonia Rivera Maya! :)

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive, family-friendly bundle of beachy greatness.

Throwing back a welcome cocktail after finally arriving in paradise.

The much-needed, all-soothing hydrotherapy treatment at Spa Alegria.

Movin' & groovin' at the weekly beach party (with a savory drink in hand, of course).

What We'd Change

Catalonia Resort Riviera Maya has expansive grounds but doesn't feel like a mega-resort. Its rooms are housed in smaller buildings and villas and the natural setting keeps it feeling intimate.

Why You Should Go

It's an hour from the airport - patience is a virtue. You'll be on the sand soon.

Between the gym, land sports and water sports, the vacay weight will be easy to keep off.

The nightly shows at the theater will keep you nice and entertained every evening.

Upgrade to Privileged and fancy a private lounge, spa benefits and the Pure bar on the beach.
