Loved this place!

Overall loved the resort . It was very beautiful and it was also very clean. The staff was very friendly and kind. The food at most restaurants could have been better taste wise but it was okay , there where only one or two restaurants that were great, other than that the service was great. I would definitely recommend and would love to vacation here again.

overall nice resort but beach is No Bueno

The overall Family Friendly and all inclusive aspects of the resort afford it a slightly above-average rating. The meal buffets were just ok, and didn't vary at all in the 6 nights we stayed. My kids (14 and 18) didn't have any basis of comparison and aren't foodies in the least, so they were satified. But dried-up re-re-recyled pork and lasagna aren't appetizing in my book. The staff itself was overall friendly and helpful and the drinks were plentiful and well-poured. There are several swimming pools to choose from, but make sure you save your chairs by 7am, beacuse they've all been claimed by that time. If you're not into the pool scene, the ocean is the obvious draw. Unfortunately, this "beach" is sub par by any measure. Aside from the unsightly man-made concrete jetties built off this horse shoe-shaped beach area, when the wind comes in from the west (which is most days and most of the time) it brings with it tons of seaweed. I mean tons! That wasn't the worst part (for me)but that makes it nearly impossible to wade through and see where you're walking over uneven and rocky bottomed floor. A few elderly folks fell down while trying and and with my broken back, I got to swim in the salt water a total of 2 sessions. But if the ocean isn't your thing, you're likely to be a happy camper poolside.

A good price for a Nice Beach

The resort was nice, its a good vacation for the price we paid! The Pools were okey, but I love the beach, it was clean and the water was calm and clear you can see the fishes swimming, the only thing is there isn’t enough chairs and space by the sand. The food were okey but it was repetetive, they serve same choices of food everyday, it’s also hard to get reservation from the other restaurants. The one thing I really did not like are those people that were offering timeshares or they say theirs are different its called a membership club, the moment we set foot in the resort, they started selling , they saw us the next day and they kept following us, it was annoying, they wouldnt take no for an answer.

Worst purchases ever

This will be a long review, have patience and you will be well informed about this hotel . The minute we walked in, the front desk representatives began trying to up-sale me an “all- inclusive upgrade”. I was so confused and informed the representative that we are ALL INCLUSIVE. He checked us in. I decided to make dinner reservations and shortly after, I learned that there were (we checked in around 4:00 pm) no available restaurants for the same night ( they’re all booked) Since we were already at the desk making restaurant reservations, I decided to make reservations for all the nights we were staying there (5 nights left since no availability) , but the representative informed me that from the booked 6 nights ALL INCLUSIVE we were only allowed three dinners at the restaurants. All the other nights, we would only have the option to eat at the buffet( very poor quality options and food selection) ... that is when I went back to front desk and explained to them that we paid for ALL INCLUSIVE, unfortunately they were not helpful at all and advised me to call my travel agent ( CHEAP CARIBBEAN). Finally we arrived at our room and that was absolutely shocking ( pictures attached). Our room was old, bathroom extremely old and everything is dated. This room is NOT about $350+ dollars a night. I did call my travel agent and explained the situation. Same night, I received a call from front desk and they were offering to move us. I went and checked the room ( it was exactly same room quality but different building!!!) , also they told me that I must be out of my room by 9:00 am and I will get room keys after 4:00pm. After learning this information, I called my travel agent back and left information for their review. We were absolutely dissatisfied, disgusted and disappointed. Day 2 mid day, I went to the front desk and asked them if they received anything from my travel agent and I received a very rude answer that nothing had been received. And they needed a “coupon” to move us to a better room and all inclusive. Later that day (around 7:00 pm) the front desk representative contacted us to inform us that they will be moving us. We were moved to a “Privilege room” ... Privileged room was normal, it had a garden view ( we paid for garden view) and we were considered as ALL INCLUSIVE now as we had access to all restaurants for dinner every night ( reservation required) and daily breakfast and lunch everywhere on property ( the “privileged” all inclusive) This is my first experience with Catalonia Riviera Maya in information between travel agency and hotel information. We travel always ALL INCLUSIVE and never have to deal with paying for extra fees on the property for ALL INCLUSIVE. The beach was extremely rocky and you need water shoes for swimming to avoid cuts and the risk of sea urchins. The entertainment was excellent. Miguel was the best, super funny and great at volleyball and dancing. It looked like the entertainers put in a lot of effort to keep everyone entertained and happy all day and all night. After our hiccups with the reservation had been resolved, Oscar, the restaurant manager had greeted us every night and made sure everything was good. He was very helpful and pleasant. I want to give a shout out to Lucas who was our waiter at B-Loved. He was such an amazing waiter and really helped us restart on a good note. However, at the crepe stand, the workers had a very bad attitude and the crepes took forever. The workers were unpleasant, forgot some people’s orders, and worked extra slow. And they even served raw crepes sometimes. Also, at the Italian restaurant, when we walked in, they said “You’re late! Your reservation has been cancelled” even though the restaurant was empty. We were probably 15 minutes late because we thought we had a reservation 30 minutes later than we did and we showed up what we thought would be fifteen minutes early. We had to talk to a manager otherwise we would have not had dinner that night. The hostess was rude and didn’t even try to accommodate us. And, out of spite, they gave us the worst table in the restaurant even though a lot of better tables were open. I’m requesting a call back and get a refund for the two nights we stayed at such an unjust and poor room and service.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive, family-friendly bundle of beachy greatness.

Throwing back a welcome cocktail after finally arriving in paradise.

The much-needed, all-soothing hydrotherapy treatment at Spa Alegria.

Movin' & groovin' at the weekly beach party (with a savory drink in hand, of course).

What We'd Change

Catalonia Resort Riviera Maya has expansive grounds but doesn't feel like a mega-resort. Its rooms are housed in smaller buildings and villas and the natural setting keeps it feeling intimate.

Why You Should Go

It's an hour from the airport - patience is a virtue. You'll be on the sand soon.

Between the gym, land sports and water sports, the vacay weight will be easy to keep off.

The nightly shows at the theater will keep you nice and entertained every evening.

Upgrade to Privileged and fancy a private lounge, spa benefits and the Pure bar on the beach.
