Overall the resort surroundings were great, nice beach, grounds keep look t clean, food was very good. The only part we didn't like was the room itself. The room needs a major upgrade, very low lights in the bathroom, a/c was not as good. The room service was great.

Real review

Pros: front desk elizabe was amazing also miguelina on restaurants And one of the guys the makes pizza. The older guy. Also anurys at restaurant was very nice. Beach is beautiful. Sevice at the merenguero bar is good. They dont cheat on their drinks. Cons:there are not restrictions on smoking, so people will smoke all over the place, not good if you have kids. Picture your self in a enclosed space full of smokers. The service is horrible except for a few people. The food is not good and after 10 pm only pizza is available. The gave us a flayer asking our opinion about service and food at the main buffet. I filled up and when the manager or person who told me to be the manager at the buffet saw it. Confronted me saying that I should not give a bad review and demand to change my bad review to a good review. That says a lot about this place. His name was hector I think. Also the guys for the time share like thing will drive you nuts. Only concentrated orange juice on the restaurants. As far as juice goes. Shows are good for a 4 year old. The outdoor Jacuzzi had cold water. And the pool was also cold.

Catalonia La Romana

I always book at cheapcaribbean this must be 8th trip I book. Out of all of my trips with my family this by far was a major disappointment and should be removed as a option too book. The rooms are so outdated. It looked like we were still in the 80's. The resort is resolving this problem by renovating the rooms. We spent two night in room that was not renovated and another 2 nights that was renovated. The renovated rooms are very nice I will give that to them. Service was horrible. The first two nights it was as if all 6 of us on this trip did not exists to the employees. I spoke English to everyone but what the employees did not know my wife speaks Spanish. So my wife caught the employees numerous amount of times talking trash about the people they were serving not realizing she understood them. The resort was filled with Italians. The Italians got served before we did. It was as if they tend to only the Italians in this resort. The entertainment was in Italian as well as and the people who encourage the guest to participate int he events only spoke Italian. Only if the Italians new what they were saying about them. The last 2 nights we got upgraded for free to a renovated room. I did not ask for the upgrade but it was given to us. I believe the reason for the upgrade was my mother and father in-laws had double bed and they needed a room with double beds. So we all got moved to a newly renovated rooms. With the upgrade came a different color bracelet. This bracelet allowed us to access premium beach area and another restaurant. The different color bracelet did provide just a bit better service. The pool and beach did not have anyone coming around asking if you wanted a drink. Everything required you to go to the bar. The pool had tons of sand in it and was never cleaned the whole time we were there. The beach was the best part of this stay. The water was nice and clean. Restaurants were not that great. The food did not have taste. Very little effort on changing dishes in the Buffet as well. As I mentioned before horrible entertaining at night. If there was it was in Italian. They should be doing a mixture of cultures and languages. Overall I was disappointed with this trip I took my whole family too. I was use to the employees taking care of their customer especially we are the reason they have a job. Please don't think the service I received was because I did not tip. I tip generously and still the service was still horrible.
