Good and Bad

To start with, this resort has some good points that I would like to make sure I mention. The food was pretty good in the A la Carte restaurants and we didn't have much trouble making reservations. There is a great beach bar that we enjoyed and the waiter/bartender there was very accommodating. The grounds are pretty interesting with all the birds/ducks and little pools with fish etc... The beach is similar to other bavaro resort beaches. Nice sand. Lots of lounge chairs (and as is typical, many get reserved even though they aren't supposed to but not a huge problem) Now for the not so good. Probably the worst thing was the water issue. We didn't have hot water in our room. It was semi-warm if we turned it all the way to hot but at that point the pressure was pretty low. If we had been there for a longer stay, we might have complained but since we were only there for 3 nights and realized this after the first, we didn't want to waste our day waiting for maintenance to show up and have random people in our room. At one point the hot (warm) water was completely off, but it came back after a few hours. So, if you are someone that likes a hot shower, I am not sure if this is the place for you. We made do with the tepid water. We were only there a few days, so it wasn't the end of the world. But it was an indication along with other things that this isn't a resort we would likely return to. Maybe it was an isolated incident, but you might want to look at other reviews to see what other say. Food quality could be iffy in the buffet. Not everything that should have been HOT was hot. That being said, it was a pretty good variety and we didn't starve. Housekeeping seemed pretty overwhelmed. Other properties we have stayed at in the past seemed to have more people in this capacity. We felt like what was done was rushed and specific requests to change a stained sheet (stained when we got there) was not done. I don't believe they mopped or wiped things down very carefully as the room had obvious smudging and sand/dirt on the floor. Even after good tips, the service didn't improve as far as cleaning. Towels provided in the room were pretty thin and in short supply. We got two thin bath towels. They did provide extras and one wash cloth when we asked for more though. Our room was unfortunately in a loud location since it was beside the employee entrance and beside the children's daycare center. The hotel seems to be loud in general with all rooms opening up into an echoing tile hallway. We could hear people from quite a ways down the hall and so we heard the late night drinkers coming in and the early risers going out. The timeshare reps were more aggressive than we would have liked. But, after I walked away, my husband had the excuse that he had to go after me. That tactic I would use in the future. In the end, we did have a good time. It was three days in the warm sun with a pretty beach and warm ocean water. In the middle of winter, it was a nice break. We had plenty of cool beverages and even took in a fishing excursion. The hotel was not perfect, but if you are a laid back person, and don't let things get to you.. you would have a good time.

Overall worth the money

We enjoyed a 6 night stay at the Caribe Club Princess. Overall, worth the $$. Don't take my 'cons' too seriously - the trip was fantastic. I offer them so that you don't make my mistakes and that hopefully the Princess people will read this and make some changes. Pros: * The beach was in excellent shape. The sand was groomed and they have plenty of beach space for everyone. * The staff is friendly and accommodating. * There's 24 hour access to food and beverage located right at the beach. When the other dining options are unavailable, you can always get something to eat and drink. * The public spaces are immaculate. * The food was good with an amazing selection and variety. They have more shellfish than you can shake a stick at. Mussels, shrimp, calamari, etc... Cons: * Even though there are signs indicating that you can't reserve a beach chair, it's unenforced. Unless you get up at dawn and put a towel on a chair, you'll be without a chair for the day. Either get more chairs or enforce the rule. * Yes, I know that the rest of the world is (enviably) bilingual. However, I am not and struggled to make my self understood when speaking with the staff. Do yourself a favor and bring a Spanish language cheat-sheet. * The specialty dining wasn't quiet that remarkable. Still good food, just not as 'specialty' as you might expect. However as a U.S. citizen, I might be spoiled with the rich variety of cultural foods available to us daily. Things I'll remember to do next time: * I will remember to bring the necessary quantities of ibuprofen and acetaminophen. I will also bring some chew-able Pepto-Bismal tablets. While these are available on-site the cost is extravagant. (ex. $13 for a small bottle of Pepto). * I will bring my own refillable drinking bottle. The drinks are provided in small 6oz cups. I spent too much time returning to the bar. * I will book my trip so that it's a direct flight to/from. The weather issues played havoc with the trip schedule. * I will bring smaller denominations of U.S. currency. They hoard the U.S. dollar there. You never get change (or they claim to have none). I wish I had more singles and fives. There were a number of people there I would have liked to have tipped, but couldn't afford to keep giving out $20s. A note to the Princess folks (if they read this stuff): Here's an idea - offer English language classes to the staff free of charge. Pay bonuses to the staff that reach different levels of competency. I promise it will pay back to you in real dividends. You'll have happier customers and a happier staff.

SISTER TRIP

The hotel was great, but the rooms could use some updating. The service was OUTSTANDING, I cannot remember all of their names, but here are a few: Angelo, Christian and Juckson, the waitresses, the bartenders, they were all GREAT.... the activity/show employees like Jerry, Peter, included all ages to participate and made everyone feel welcome.....THEY ALL WERE WONDERFUL....THEY went above and beyond to make our stay memorable, with food, shows, activities, shuttle, drinks........THANK YOU ALL FOR MAKING OUR TRIP SO AWESOME!!!! We would return to this resort for sure!!!!! SUSAN, JUNE, KAREN, JOYCE AND BEVERLY.....

Spend a little more and stay somewhere nicer

My boyfriend and I came here for 5 nights. We were looking for a fun, affordable trip to the Caribbean. Overall, the staff was very nice. The rooms were outdated, but clean. We did see a few cockroaches the first day near our sliding door which was concerning, but they went away. The food really was not very good. Even the specialty restaurants were nothing special. Despite all this, the property is well maintained and the pools and beach were lovely. My advice: spend a few hundred extra dollars and stay somewhere a little nicer!
