Pick another place.
Spa was nice. Sales staff after check-in were disingenuous at best. No real beach to speak of and sand had trash on it. Even found an exposed used blood sugar needle floating in the water. No good.

BEST POOL CONCIERGES = Our most relaxing resort holiday ever!
I was initially hesitant to book this resort because of its reputation as a "party resort". My husband and I were looking for lively, but not 24/7 party. If you have any reservations like us, dont! This resort was the perfect mix. After several flight and baggage claim and transfer delays, we arrived at 9:30pm, exhausted. Being met with "Relax, you're home now" was a nice touch and echoed by the valet, the porter and the check-in agent. We booked XHale, and it was totally worth it for the perks. We had a top-floor, oceanfront room that was absolutely gorgeous. The room and how it was appointed (including the middle of the room, all glass, double head shower!) felt appropriate for a romantic couples vacation. We loved the balcony watching the sunrise and pelicans dive for fish. In addition to the complimentary bottle of Verve Cliquot that was part of the Xhale package, we received an additional bottle of bubbly in our room on Day 2 - a lovely surprise! The fridge was stocked and refilled with beer and sodas, but no snacks as we had experienced at other resorts. Dinner Restaurants were decent. As foodies from Vancouver, we don't expect gourmet dining at an AI resort, so managed expectations are good! We liked the steakhouse best - unlike other resorts we've been at, the steak was actually thick enough to be cooked medium rare, lol. We also had an Asada night (part of the fire show) where they were grilling various meats next to the pool area, and that was superb. We liked and preferred the "no reservation" system. We would check in to get a buzzer, then go spend an hour at the bar for drinks and making new friends until the table was ready. It was a surprise to learn that the Teppenyaki was an extra $50pp charge - first time I see that at a resort. But I appreciate that it's a special skill and people probably don't tip the chef as they should. We've done it many times before so we just had the regular Asian menu, but I was amused by the smoke alarm going off at the Teppenyaki side about 5 times during our dinner ... who decided on the placement of that sensor right above the flames, lol. Breakfast was great - the best omelets I had in a long time (and a little food show in itself!). There were plenty of options for all tastes. Shout out to Pascual for grabbing "our" table every morning and keeping the coffee, mimosas and occasionally tequila coming without us having to ask - the personal touch is wonderful. We only ate one lunch at the buffet, had a yummy burger at the poolside restaurant, and then indulged in a daily pizza from the beach bar. Fernando is a rockstar making 100's of pizzas a day - be sure to tip him! We loved our 2pm Pizza and Bingo date at the beach bar - the pizzas were perfect. Daytime entertainment was not obnoxious like it can be at some resorts. The Team never nagged anyone to participate, and simply let their energy do the work of getting people join. The aqua spin, water aerobics, pool volleyball and beach volleyball was full of people every day. Having the beach right next to the pool makes it great for guests to participate and cheer on. Nighttime entertainment was refreshingly different from the usual lame Michael Jackson show lineup. Think drag show, magic show, newlyweddish game, etc. For sure a step up from other resorts. A note about the "party resort" worry ... the party pool was bustling every day with loud music, dancers, special party events. We popped in now and again, and then retreated back to the games pool to relax. There's a building between the 2 pools so you would never know there was a rager happening just on the other side. That's the beauty of this resort - you don't have to choose between party and relaxing, you can have both! We met many people from Secrets who came to the Breathless pool every day because it was actually too quiet on that side, so choose your resort wisely. The beach is ... not great. We never swam once, and didn't see anyone going into the sea in the 7 days we were there. The water is dark and murky, there are some steep rocky dropoffs from the beach to the water, and it's just not the clear blue waters and white sand you'll find closer to Cancun. But we knew this before coming, so no complaints. I want to finish by addressing our pool experience. Especially given the subpar beach, I knew our experience at the pool could make or break our vacation. I've been to other resorts where we had to get up at 6am to get a chair, which felt sacrilegious when you're supposed to be on holiday. THE POOL CONCIERGES ABSOLUTELY MADE OUR VACATION!! I can't thank Vicente and Victor enough for creating a poolside experience that was so good, it's the single reason I will come back to this resort. We never had to get up early for seats - these 2 superstars took care of us every morning. We had looong philosophical chats with Vicente every day - he is warm, engaging, and an intellectual ... Breathless is SO lucky to have him. I would say that he deserves a much more senior position, but I wouldn't want to deprive others of the opportunity to have him as your concierge. I truly feel that we had made a friend. Victor was equally wonderful - attentive and caring demonstrated by moving umbrellas around for shade without us having to ask, and offering a cold facial towel treatment that made me feel like I was at the spa. The already wonderful poolside experience was only enhanced by Roger who made sure that we were never without a drink. Once again, him knowing your name and your preferences make for a holiday that feel luxurious and like a VIP. It was wonderful getting to know him, hearing about his family, and sharing some genuine human connection. We aren't at all the type of people to come back to resorts. Vicente and Victor have convinced us otherwise. Breathless will see us again!

Great Party Vibes, Disappointing Food
I wanted a vacation for me and my friends. We’re in our late 20s to late 30s, and Breathless Riviera Cancun is definitely marketed as a party resort—and it delivers on that front. The entertainment was great and kept everyone engaged from about 12 PM to 1 AM every day. There was always something happening, and the energy was fun, lively, and social. If you’re looking to party, this resort absolutely understands the assignment. I also want to give a huge shoutout to Erik, who was AMAZING. His energy, personality, and attention to detail truly elevated our experience and made the trip more fun. He stood out in the best way and deserves recognition. Now for the disappointing part: the food. For a 5-star all-inclusive resort in Cancun, I had much higher expectations, but unfortunately, I was sorely mistaken. There were only two good restaurants—the Asian restaurant and the French restaurant. The Mexican restaurant was not good at all, which was especially surprising given that we were in Mexico. The buffet for breakfast and lunch was very lackluster. There wasn’t much variety, it rarely changed, and most of the food lacked flavor. Overall, the quality felt more like what I’d expect at a 3-star resort, not a 5-star one. As for the drinks, they were good overall, but definitely hit or miss depending on the day and which bartender you got. One thing worth noting: we did not book the Xhale rooms since they were more expensive, but after seeing the benefits, they seem worth it. Xhale guests get access to their own dining options, better rooms, and overall better service. Would I go back to this resort? No. I would recommend Breathless Riviera Cancun to people in their early 20s to around 30 who mainly want to party and drink. If you’re a foodie or expect high-quality dining, this is not the place for you.

Great way to start 2026!
The service staff was very kind. Some even called me by name, which made me feel like a VIP. The variety of restaurants, amenities and activities was more than I expected.
