    Just ok...

I went in with pretty high expectations due to how much we spent for this trip. We opted for an Xhale Swim up room. Upon arrival, they had us jump into a cart which took us straight to their private little Xhale lounge to check in. We asked for a quieter room near the beach because I had read about how loud the party pool facing rooms could get. It took about 2 hrs total to be shown to our room, but we were able to go to the nearby Xhale members restaurant to have an a l carte lunch, which was nice. This is actually the Strip restaurant which is close to the beach and main pool and it is an Xhale restaurant for breakfast and lunch and then a regular steakhouse restaurant at night. I enjoyed their lunch menu and the service provided here. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom has a walk in shower, great lighting, and closed off washroom and good water pressure. The closet has ample space, shelving and a safe. There is also a small bar area with an espresso machine and a little fridge that gets stocked every day. They offer complimentary m&m's and a mini Pringles + 1 medium bottle of rum. You then enter through a separate door to the living area which has the bed, TV, 2 person couch with a coffee table, etc. The TV had a lot of channels. You can then walk out to the small patio to the shared grassy area and pool. There is a jetted tub on the patio (which was a bit grimey but worked), a couple of chairs and loungers. I personally didn't love walking between narrow shrubs and over muddy grass to get to the "swim up" pool. I wish the pool was a true walkout from our patio. The pool also had a lot of debris and insects floating in it. Also, our room/patio was in clear view of the neighboring Dreams Onyx restaurant, and we could see the people eating, so zero privacy. The AC was good, room always kept clean, bed was firm and comfy, great pillows, and no dampness which was great. For me, the food was mediocre, and I consider myself a bit of a foodie. I just felt it lacked any depth of flavor. Seasoning was needed and better sauces. With this being said, I never went hungry and they had a good amount of fruits and veggies and many fish options for my husband, who is a pescatarian. A la cartes: Italian: 6/10 Culinaria: 7/10 French: 7.3/10 Also tried the family side buffet and thought it was just ok, nothing special. There is a cute taco hut behind the spa near the gym which had nice tacos. Worth checking out. The outdoor grill by the pool has good burgers, and they also offer fries, salads, and ceviche (which I enjoyed with the nachos chips!). Room service was decent, but more vegetarian options would be cool. Not everyone likes or can eat cheese! Both the main pool and the Freestyle party pool did play music most of the day, but go to Freestyle if you want a more rowdy crowd and the main pool for a more chill vibe. Both had ample seating as long as you grabbed a spot by 10am. Despite lots of signage stating that reserving chairs is prohibited, everyone did it anyway, and the staff doesn't care. Drinks were hit or miss and didn't always taste the same, and I found it difficult to get a buzz... 🤔. The frozen mojitos were yummy! Lots of pool vball, but not so much enthusiasm for beach vball, which we found disappointing. 😢 We ended up walking over to the family side where the beach vball was better. I am sad to say there was indeed a huge seaweed issue our entire stay. Piles of sargassum lined the shoreline and the water was dark and murky and not swimmable. It was like a ghost town. We still sat on the beach and enjoyed the breeze 😎 Sand is nice and soft, lots of huts and seating, and I can imagine how nice it is on a good day. Now for the service...again, it was hit or miss. The staff was generally friendly, but some seemed indifferent at times, like they could care less if we enjoyed ourselves. Maybe 75% of the time, it was good. I will share one incident that stands out the most: One morning, we were seated outside for breakfast, and it was almost empty out there. The server didn't come to greet us or give us water. Halfway through our meal, I ended up walking inside to ask if anyone was coming? After sitting back down, he finally came, and I let him know (in a calm tone) that we were waiting a long time. He laughed it off and did not apologize. I also heard him make a joke about it to a colleague as he walked back inside. He proceeded to give us the silent treatment for the rest of the meal. He also served us luke warm water for our tea and only filled my husband's mug up halfway and didn't bother to return. Very rude and childish behavior and not professional :( The a la cartes offered better and more consistently friendly service. The gym is pretty good, but challenging to find, lol. You have to go behind the spa to find it. It had ample space and has what you need. We went to the spa for the Aromatherapy massage and I did the salt and oil scrub + foot reflexology and all the treatments were lovely. The water facilitates are ok, but need some updates. The steam room was intense, and the sauna was lacking. We attended only 2 of the parties and they were ok. Lots of edm type music which became a lot. A better mix of music would have been appreciated. The lobby bar was a vibe and offered nice live music after dinner. The facilitates are nice overall, but some areas could use some love and care. I noticed that the Dreams Onyx had a beautiful private pool are that was adults only and for their preferred guests... unfortunately, we were not allowed inside which was disappointing. I wish the Breathless side had a similar accommodation for Xhale guests as we pay a lot for our stay. The water park/lazy river was fun and worth checking out if you are bored. Finally, our butler Kelly was fabulous. She was attentive and always available to help with questions or to make reservations, etc. She made sure we knew what was happening every day. The app was also useful as well, so definitely utilize that! Overall, we had a pretty relaxing vacation and we had a nice stay. I can't say I was wowed though, and I am not sure if I would return. I would consider the Dreams Onyx side if I travel with my kids in the future, as it seemed nice over there...but NOT in July!! I need my beach/ocean time!! 😁🌊🏝

    Romantic, eccentric, festive, breathtaking

A truly exceptional vacation. It was my first time going to Punta Cana at the Breathless Resort and Spa. And I have no words for how amazing the staff treated me and my fiancé and his family that all came together on this trip. The food, the drinks, the service was top notch. Our room was beautiful, and was kept clean by the staff daily. Richard from the French restaurant called Co Quette served us meal after meal that was heaven worthy. I’ll never forget this experience, I’ll most definitely be going back.

    Good to be Back!

Came back to Breathless for a second time 11 years later after going in 2014, when it was brand new. Went with 5 other guy/girl friends for a total of 6 of us. Overall, wonderful experience! The food was outstanding and the restaurants were able to seat all 6 of us without reservation quickly. Silk and Italian were our favorites. Buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner was also great. Entertainment all day and night! We especially loved the silent disco, karaoke, and the night club. We also loved hanging out by the outdoor stage area and the Wink bar. The beach and pool service were outstanding, as well as the night time bartenders. They literally will make you anything and everything you want! Huge shout-out to Merolin our poolside server! We loved her!! The resort and rooms were overall very clean and neat. My ONLY disappointment was the beach. The public beach vendors pressured you into making purchases and giving tips. The sargassum was AWFUL!! I understand mother nature, however no clean up crews in view and made it very difficult to enjoy the beach. We did go to Onyx twice for the lazy river! You can get service there too! Overall, as my second time going, I'm not sure if I would return. I do recommend going though, especially with friends. Party atmosphere!

    Awesome experience!

This was my second time at Breathless, this time with my husband for our 15 year anniversary. We had a great time and thought it was beautiful! The only downside was the seaweed (sargasm) on the beach - no fault of the resort as they were cleaning it up the best they could - we just had been looking forward to swimming in ocean. For Canadian travellers - this is a great resort but July felt too hot/humid for us - the pools were even too warm! Entertainment was fabulous and the food was great. I visited the spa and had an amazing massage from Jessica. Thank you Breathless!

    Great stay, Amazing staff!

The resort is great but the staff is amazing! From the moment we arrived, to being greeted by our UVC rep to escorting us to the Exhale Club for check-in, the experience was top notch. We were upgraded from the lowest level room to Exhale Club with an ocean view and couldn't be happier. Big shoutout to Kelly, our EC concierge who took care of all our needs quickly and efficiently. There were a few issues with the room, but were fixed and attended to quickly when I brought it to Kelly['s attention. She was always available via WhatsApp and checked in with us poolside throughout our stay. Friendly and amazing, anyone who has the luck of being paired with Kelly at check in is very fortunate. We enjoyed having access to Dreams Onyx for restaurants and the water park. the lazy river was a lot of fun and the Bluewater Grill had really tasty steaks and burgers. As for Breathless, we LOVED Coquette, the French restaurant. N No matter where we went, bartenders and staff were always friendly and smiling. I really want to single out our server at several restaurants, Yeury. He waited on us at breakfast one morning at The Strip Grill and dinner at Coquette. Yeury always had a smile on his face and took of us very well. He totally made our last day great poolside when I asked if there were chicken quesadillas available. He said no, but will do his best. The sweet man came back 30m later with delicious and hot chicken quesadillas. Now, that's service! My daughters had a I had a great time and I highly recommend.
