When Bolongo Bay begins accepting guests this June, it will be a soft re-opening. During this time, The Oasis Restaurant and Bar will be open, poolside, along with the swim up bar as well. Iggies Beach Bar & Grill is currently being renovated and will be open later this year. During this time, there is a small area around the structure on the beach that is cordoned off as work is being done. As a major hurricane affected the island a few months ago, there is still some work being done, but the hotel is making strides to come back better than ever.
Going on vacation is all about having fun. So lose yourself in the Caribbean vibe at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort. Horrible resort!!
The web site shows one thing. They state they up dated true rooms in reality they didn’t!! The bathrooms are like you are in a college dorm!! You go on vacation and you want shower that you can fit in !! Also,, bugs!! Then you sitting on the bed and look up and what do you see— roach!! Not good... I would not go back there.. you sit at the bar and get eaten by bugs who wants that on vacation?? The best part of this experience was when you call up and make sure you are getting what you want and get there and get the opposite!! I have spoke to people who have been there more than once , there food menu hasn’t changed..Not a big selection . You expect to have fish specials at night nothing!!

Beautiful Bolongo Bay!!!
The staff there is the best! I gained a few pounds because the food was delicious and the drinks are yummy. We had a wonderful time snorkeling at the resort. I recommend going out on Heavenly Days to snorkel with the sea turtles. Capt. Z, Tony and Dee are a fun crew. I cannot say anything bad about our whole trip, it was great.
Hubby and I came here last week for our honeymoon and had the most relaxing vacation we could’ve asked for. The staff were friendly and warm, very accommodating and helped us get acclimated to the island vibes. The food service was slow, however, when you’re in such a relaxing environment, it doesn’t phase you too much. Bar service was surprisingly quicker than expected (from previous reviews). Do the all-inclusive package, the st thomas tour with joseph thomas, and a snorkeling tour!
Great place for the price, good beach front, more of a small resort but very friendly, staff so nice, time to talk with you. Only thing I could request where the floors are all tile, maybe a long rug in front of bathroom vanity, an each side of the bed would be nice . Maybe add a sub to lunch menu or simple sandwich, change it from dinner menu. We will return a very relaxed place an felt very safe. Heavenly Day's a plus for the place, staff was wonderful had fun an wanted everyone to have a good time. Go an have a great time !!!!

What type of alcoholic drinks are included?2 answers
The description lists wine and champagne by the glass. Is this all that is included? Beer? Mixed or frozen drinks? Liquor?
6 years, 84 months ago
Terabc
All alcoholic drinks are included, including beer, mixed, frozen and those made with house liquor. Wine and champagne by the glass is also included. There may be a surcharge for premium brand liquors and for wine and champagne by the bottle.
KateHCC
Most alcoholic drinks are included. Champagne, wine, beer (very good selection including US domestics), mixed and frozen drinks and liquor (including popular stuff like Jager, Fireball, Jack, Jim, etc). Only top shelf liquor was excluded and they would tell you ahead of time if you would have to pay for it.

What are the restrictions on the restaurants on the all- inclusive meal plan?3 answers
6 years, 83 months ago
Cyndi
The restrictions on restaurants included in meal plans are usually placed upon specific items (such as fine cuts of beef or lobster, crab, etc). Bottles of wine are usually exempt as well, but we always recommend speaking with the resort directly to confirm what you will and may be available for a surcharge.
LaurenCC
The only things not covered with the all-inclusive were bottles of water (tap with ice was included), and there was a special each night at the Lobster Grill that had an upcharge. It was well worth the extra money for the all-inclusive
BolongoBayResortLover
Very few restrictions and they would tell you ahead of time. Almost anything you wanted from the menu was included.

Are there plenty of simple food choices with the dining? Like Hamburgers?2 answers

Yes-
Iggies Beach Bar and Grill
Type: Light fare
Hours: Daily, 11am-11pm
Description: A laid back bar that serves Caribbean and American fare for lunch, dinner and late-night snacks.
AlixCC
There are two restaurants at the resort. One offers fine dining (still casual attire) and the other is a beach bar/restaurant with simple choices. Both had very good food. The beach bar was better for lunch or a more relaxed dinner. The other restaurant had a nice breakfast buffet and a quiet sit-down dinner atmosphere (dinner there takes 1.5 to 2 hours). I would recommend going all-inclusive as the food and drinks are VERY expensive. Even at lunch with a few drinks, we would spend 50 to 75 dollars.

Handicapped accessible rooms are available at this resort by request but are based on availability and cannot be guaranteed.

I am not handicapped but I did not notice ADA ramps around. I'm pretty sure the rooms all needed stairs. You may want to call them. One restaurant is right next to the rooms and should be ok. The other on is across a sandy area. Here are some pictures.

Is the round trip airport transfers from the airport to the hotel worth it? Or should we get a cab?3 answers
4 years, 56 months ago
Baltimore, MD
We rented a car at the airport and were quite happy with that decision
ILove2Dive
Airport transfers was worth it.
They were there with a sign (Amstar) ready when we arrived at the airport and also at the Hotel when we were ready to depart.
BeachTexan
We feel booking transfers in advance is worth it. This leaves one less thing to arrange upon arrival. You can rest easy knowing someone is waiting to drive you to the hotel when you land.

The all-inclusive for this resort states: Accommodations as selected,
A la carte - breakfast, lunch and dinner, Unlimited drinks and house wine/champagne by the glass. Specialty liquor, wine and champagne are not included. You can order drinks so long as the bars/restaurants are open. You can order food so long as they are still serving food as well. If you would like to know more, you may contact the resort directly or the contact one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
TimCC
Drinks are unlimited. At iggies you get your 3 meals plus two snacks and lobster grille 3 meals. It is more than enough you won't even use all of it... Plus even if you did they tell you don't worry about it! Everything is free whenever you want no matter the time. So worth the $$$$
Rissy92
Basically, the plan includes an appetizer, entree, and desert for three meals a day. Also included are snacks (appetizers from the same menu) as long as the restaurant or bar are open. Iggies is open pretty late. Our experience, however, was that we could order anything we wanted on the menu, whenever we wanted, and it was covered.

is the beach nice and on the resort premises?3 answers
4 years, 50 months ago
AR
Very nice beach and we walked about 60 steps to the beach. During our visit in mid October 2015 there was an unusual sea weed bloom in the Atlantic Ocean that was washed up on several beaches in St Thomas including this one. A few other beaches on the island facing north did not get it. A very nice place with great food also.
FloridaRenegade
We think this beach is great! It is only a few short steps away from your room. For more information, please call us at 1.800.915.2322.
SamCC
The resort has a lovely private beach. The waters are warm, but the bay has a rocky bottom. Mostly mossy, smooth rocks. But I'd recommend water shoes. Makes for a more interesting snorkeling experience.

Would you suggest renting a car and does the hotel have night entertaining
3 years, 46 months ago
nichola
It has been recommended that you do not rent a car if you are not familiar with driving in the area. The resort does have nighttime entertainment.
LizCC
would NOT rent a car here after seeing the roads and driving. taking a taxi should be fine
TScarn
There is no way in the world I would drive anywhere in the Virgin Islands! Very narrow and winding streets. The drivers are a bit crazy. Had to take Dramamine just to keep food down. As to entertainment, Bolongo Bay has live music every night at Iggie's on the beach. There's also Carnival on Wednesdays, which includes Calypso music and performers.
RickP111
I wouldn't rent a car, and the hotel does not have night entertainment. Get a taxi to nearby Red Hook for that.
laughngrin
I recommend getting a taxi. If you aren’t used to driving on the opposite side of the ride on very steep and dangerous curves. The hotel doesn’t have nightly entertainment every night.

Bolongo Bay Beach Resort: Discover A Hidden Caribbean Treasure
Going on vacation is all about having fun. So lose yourself in the Caribbean
vibe at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort. Family owned and operated since 1974 by the
Doumengs, the resort's small, friendly atmosphere offers a vacation that seems like home. We're not the only ones who think the Doumengs are doing it right. Richard Doumeng, Managing Director, was recently awarded the "Golden Conch" Caribbean Hotelier of the Year Award by the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association. Get lost in the all-inclusive paradise at Bolongo Bay.
Located on a 1,000-ft stretch of white sand, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort redefines the word "beachfront." Kick back on a lounge chair and watch the kids swim, or check out the freshwater pool for rum punch at the swim-up bar. After you've worked up an appetite, two open-air restaurants draw you in: lobster specialties are a hit at The Oasis, and we hear conch fritters at Iggies Beach Bar and Grill are delish. Wednesday nights, Iggies hosts the wild Carnival Extravaganza, with steel-pan tunes and a limbo show, or you catch a cab to Charlotte Amalie for more action.
Whether you're hanging out at the beach or seeing the sights, there are tons of things to do during the day. Start a game of beach volleyball, or challenge the kids to paddleboat races. Try parasailing, or book a snorkel or scuba excursion to see the underwater world. Day trips to nearby St. John, St.
Croix and the British Virgin Islands are popular, but St. Thomas also has great appeal. Paradise Point has unforgettable views. The shoreline is beautiful from Magens Bay. And kids love feeding stingrays at Coral World.
Book an appointment with the massage therapist after a long day to unwind. Since Bolongo Bay is smaller and intimate, all 64 rooms are beachfront, so you can kick back and enjoy the Caribbean from the privacy of your balcony. Families don't have to navigate any pesky stairs with young children in the
Beachfront Room, and if you're traveling on a budget, the Value Room is just right.
