Dec 11, 2025Expansive resort with large rooms, clean facilities and good food selection
Barcelo Maya Palace was a delight to visit with the large extended family. This resort is located about 1 to 1.5 hours' drive from the Cancun and Tulum airports, depending on traffic. There are 5 hotels on this resort, and guests at Maya Palace can access the amenities (pools, restaurants, shows, etc) at the other hotels. Maya Palace is spacious throughout, from large lobbies, dining buffets and restaurants, to large family suites. The decor and atmosphere are upscale. The service is prompt, courteous, and professional. The rooms and expansive grounds are very clean. The buffet restaurants provide a plethora of food options, including lots of seafood, meats, and vegetarian dishes. The bar is stocked with premium liquors, not available at the other hotels on the resort. The a la carte restaurants are actually quite good for an all-inclusive resort. Tip: Book reservations early with the concierge, as desirable restaurants and timeslots fill up quickly. The beach was calm all week, with minimal seaweed. The beach is part sandy, part rocky, so water shoes may be a consideration, especially for the little ones. The pools were large and varied, including a kids' splash and slides pool as well as several other pools for adults. There were always loungers available both at the beach and at the pools, so there was no need for the early morning scramble. The hotel grounds are quite large, if your room is in the furthest building, you're trekking across three building blocks, pools, and hotel grounds to get to the restaurants, which can be a lot especially with little ones so we found it very helpful bringing stollers/carriers to carry kids and supplies to and fro. And speaking of kids, the Barcy Kids club, was quite helpful, providing activities for kids 4-12 years of age from 9am till 5pm. Having stayed in the Cancun hotel strip last year, Maya Palace is a considerably more laid back and quiet alternative. Less of a party atmosphere and more of a premium relaxing retreat.

A Large family vacay Must!
This resort is a Must See for all ages! Weve now been 3 times and we cant wait to go back again! We had a very large group and we always had beach loungers and the staff was amazing everywhere. Def go find Gerardo at the Coco pool Bar, hes fabulous!

An excellent relaxation
I had a very nice and relaxing time in Barcelo this year. The beach was very clean and the vegetation was very well taken care of - landscaping is unlike anything I have seen in the world.

This is a great resort for families. Beach is a blast, we saw turtles everyday. Tons of fun things for the kids to do. Beds were comfy, rooms were clean and quite large. Food was my only complaint. The Ala Carte restaurants were all really good, buffet was just ok. Service was great. Beautiful pools with lots of seats.
