    Amazing experience!

Barry colonial was a game changer for our vacation! They took such good care of our daughter on our trip! Susana overdo, Zaira huitzil, and Sara Martinez were incredible with our kid!

    Disappointed. Frustrated. Not again.

If you like waking up at 6am every day on vacation to get a pool chair, or waiting in long unorganized buffet lines for subpar food then this is the perfect resort for you. If you like spending an hour of your day most days with the concierge trying to secure a dinner reservation at one of the al carte restaurants then this is the resort for you. If you love a damp room, with damp bedding and clothing, absolutely the resort for you. Even with Damp Rid, our room, clothing and bedding always felt wet. And yes, we know it’s the tropics and it’s humid, but never experienced this level of moisture in the room. I’d like warm drinks in your mini bar this is the resort for you. Our room refg did not work and had to be changed. We have been to several all inclusive resorts and never have we been so disappointed. On the positive side, the grounds are beautifully maintained, the evening shows are great, the pool side entertainment was decent and the staff was helpful when needed. Oh and check your bill carefully…prices for connecting room and upgraded premium bracelet not as we were quoted.

Stunning Resort Tainted by Cold and Unprofessional Reception

My family are in route home after a week-long stay at the Barcelo Maya Colonial, and I find myself deeply conflicted. While the resort itself is a tropical paradise, the experience was bookended by such a frustrating and unwelcoming reception team that it cast a shadow over our entire vacation. The Highlights: A Paradise for Kids The physical property is stunning, and for families, the amenities are hard to beat. Our kids absolutely lived for the water park and the pool area. • The Water Park: It was the centerpiece of their trip, full of slides and splash zones that kept them entertained for hours. • The Pools: The pool areas are expansive, clean, and perfectly designed for both relaxation and play. Seeing the joy on our kids' faces during these activities was the highlight of our stay. The heart of the resort is truly in its service staff. A massive shout-out to Max at the poolside restaurant; he befriended our entire family and provided the kind of warm, attentive service that makes a vacation feel special. Most of the bar and restaurant staff followed suit, working tirelessly to ensure we were well-fed and happy. The Low Point: A Cold Welcome and a Difficult Goodbye Unfortunately, the "hospitality" stopped the moment we hit the front desk. Having traveled to many all-inclusives, we have never experienced such a cold and unfriendly reception. Checking in was unnecessarily difficult, but checking out was even worse. We dealt specifically with a supervisor named "Icon Aes" (per the name tag), who was incredibly dismissive. The most concerning part of our departure was the handling of a large deposit return. When I asked for documentation or an email confirmation that the refund had been processed, the manager flatly refused, stating: • It would take 6–8 weeks to process. • They "didn't have the authority" to send an email or even provide a written note confirming the transaction. For a resort of this caliber to handle a significant financial transaction with such "trust me" vagueness is unprofessional and, frankly, quite odd. It left us feeling anxious and undervalued rather than relaxed. Final Verdict It’s a shame that a few individuals at the front desk can taint the hard work of people like Max and the joy of the water park. While I would recommend the Barcelo complex for families because of the beautiful facilities, I would suggest avoiding the Maya Colonial specifically. A vacation should start and end with a smile, not a battle for basic validation and professional documentation. Until the reception team learns the meaning of hospitality, your "welcome" here might feel more like an inconvenience.
